Strong as an ox… the throwing sounds fun

Enjoy the throwing and remember, BBQ is an anti-inflamatory, so have some for your knees.

But you need Carolina style with vinegar sauce… thats the anti-inflamatory stuff

willy and Joe, we are having a bbq company cater our company picnic on friday. I promise to eat at least 2 pounds of meat. can’t say whether or not it will be carolina style. what is the not-carolina style called?

9/21/10 throwing
form work, trying to get the double spin on the weight for distance down.

30# x 15 (sets of 5)
40# x 12 (sets of 3) I was going to go for 20, but on the 12th i totally lost the tightness in my lower back, and figured “this way be wheelchairs” and called it quits. ‘sides, it was rainin’.

on the first couple throws I felt myself fighting the weight, trying to bend my arm. that’s bad. so I started cueing myself out loud “long arm, long arm” and it worked. so next I tried it with “knees bent, knees bent”. I had forgotten how much verbal cueing helps. That became “knees bent, knees bent, head up”.

I was finally starting to feel the weight and let it do the work a bit. still just at the beginning of learning how to do this throw, but the first time i’ve felt any progress on my double spin.

good times.

Crap… No its all good… As I said before, in the south bar-b-cue is a noun, not a verb…

In North Carolina we have eastern style which is vinegar based with red, white, and black pepper. The western style has catsup added.

So true. It’s so nice when a lift becomes so intuitive that it’s just second nature and requires no thoughts of form or cueing.

Straight arms, in the hammer and the weights for distance, are key. I started to wear an elbow sleeve during the wfds practices as a kinda reminder.
Try the Ronnie Coleman method of verbal cues, “light weight, lightweight.”

9/22/10 SKWATTS!!
Funny, i haven’t really lifted for almost a month. I felt like I couldn’t, because I am OCD, and it was time for a squat session in the rotation. I couldn’t squat because I hadn’t fixed my squat rack. finally finished my squat rack last night, and in desparation, immediately squatted in it without warming up.

5x 135/185
2x 225 (very high).

my hips and back locked up on the last set and I couldn’t get any kind of depth, but the important thing is that I broke the fast and squatted. plus, my home gym, as it is, is now finished and I can resume a somewhat regular lifting schedule (until it gets so cold that my hand sticks to the bar, then I’ll go back to the gym for a couple months.

Big fun.

None of my lifts are like that, i have to constantly cue myself or i do stupid things. for instance, if I don’t cue myself “knees out” in the hole, i fold up. and I’ve been squatting since 1978.

9/23/10 kettlefagging

swings with 38# bell, ladders 5,4,4,4,4,4

on the 5th ladder, I did not complete, so instead of 16 reps, it was 13. I also took longer than 1 minute break after that ladder. that is a total of 102 reps per hand. between last nights squats and this mornings kettlekwearing, my posterior is locked up tighter than, well, a tight thing.

Congrats on getting back in the squat rhythm!

You been hitting the bourbon lately? I been dry for a few weeks. I may break the drought tonight.

hmmmm bourbon. Seems to make my bench go up.

ummm, there was some gratuitous rye drinking a couple weekends ago during a highland games. we switched to scotch at the end.

whiskey tends to put my lifting back by a week

9/25/10 5/3/1 military(5) cycle 11

3 sets of 5 at increasing weights that I can’t remember.

I did not have time to do any accessory stuff, but once I get the hang of lifting in my garage, i’ll be fine. I have not been doing my little lytp things during the layoff, so my shoulders are a little sore, but not too bad. My hip is still killing me tho.

I don’t have a dip thing in my garage yet, so I am going back to military press. also, I am doing the 2 days per week program, so basically, you do the bbb for the other lift, presumably so that even with only doing 2 core lifts per week, you are still doing all 4 movements. that’s my guess anyways. it looks like this:

military, bbb bench, roze
deadlift, bbb front squat, abz
bench, bbb military, assisted chins because i am such a fatass
skwatt, bbb deadlift, other abz

yes, I am starting cycle 11 again, for the 3rd time. I dropped weights all around, 10lbs on upper and 20 on lower. I can keep starting over until I completely finish the damned cycle, then i’ll go to the next one.

My plans is to get some cleans before both deads and squats, but that remains to be seen. also, starting in Nov when the highland games are all over, I’ll add in a snatch day, so I will do cleans on a regular lift day, but snatches get their own day. why? cuz i’m vain, and a well-executed snatch just looks cool, especially with some weight.

Oh, yeah, you may have heard of this thing called the warrior diet by some nutbag israeli, has to do with not eating during the day. I am trying his other diet, called the anti-estrogenic diet, which is very similar. today is the first day, and I’m not dead or terribly hungry yet, which is a good sign. on the other hand, I also haven’t thrown yet…I just feel so shitty all the time, I figured I would see if this helps. I’ll keep y’all posted on the result.

Weak as I am, I have lifted twice in the past week, and I feel like I am on the way back.

Sounds good, having the setup in the garage now. No one to tell you what you can and can’t do. Good to see you lifting again. Throwing is good, but needs some basic strength to support it.

I think I have my family convinced that Utah on Halloween is a good idea. Looks pretty definite that we’ll be there for the games.

Hey Carl, that would be GREAT. Plenty of good places for trick or treats after.
