You looking for just artists? Or particular songs?
Just artists of the top of my head:
Isley Brothers(my favorite)
The O’Jays
Al Green
Barry White
Earth,Wind,and Fire
Stevie Wonder(of course)
Sly & The Family Stone
The Ohio Players
Kool & The Gang
The Commodores
The Bar-Kays
Otis Redding
Jackson 5(yes…the Jacksons)
Looking for artists, songs, whatever.
Jay’s version of “Ain’t no Love” brought me to the Bobby Blue Band, who I dig. Luda’s “Undisputed” brought me to Edwin Starr and Blinky’s “We’ll find a way” which is fuckin awesome. Plus I’ve always dug songs by Sam and Dave, the Temptations, etc.
So I’m just looking for anything that’s cool.
Just a taste of some of my favourites. I grew up on this stuff - high school dances, radio. Still love it.
Wilson Pickett - Mustang Sally
Wilson Pickett - Land Of a 1000 Dances (on Letterman)
Ike and Tina Turner - Proud Mary - This song starts slow and easy and then just goes nuclear at 2:25.
Martha Reeves and the Vandellas - Heatwave - definite Motown sound i.e. made more “pop” sounding
Martha Reeves and the Vandellas - Jimmy Mack
Otis Redding - Dock of the Bay
Marvin Gaye and Tami Terrell - Ain’t No Mountain High Enough
Four Tops - Baby I Need Your Lovin’
Temptations - I Wish It Would Rain
Sam Cooke - You Send Me
Simply Red - If You Don’t Know Me By Now - his 1980’s cover of the song by Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes
and the original:
Some early British Invasion, obvious R&B influences:
The Animals - Bring it On Home to Me
The Animals - Please Don’t Let Me be Misunderstood
Gerry and The Pacemakers - You’ll Never Walk Alone
Dusty Springfield - Son of a Preacher Man
Edit: Fixed links

That Edwin Starr and Blinky song is great. Just checked it out on Youtube.
Here are a few more to check out:
Isley Brothers - Between the Sheets
“The Reverend” Al Green - Take Me to the River - made (even more) famous by the Talking Heads, who did an excellent job of “funking it up”.
Al Green:
Talking Heads:
The Chambers Brothers - Funky
Jackie Wilson - Higher and Higher
Edit: Fixed Al Green link - must have been drunk on soul last night
I spent about an hour listening to Ray Charles on youtube today. Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole are also damn good.
Walking the Dog:
Will It Go Round In Circles:
Smokestack Lightning:
High Heel Sneakers:
Memphis Soul Stew:
Stormy Monday:
Knock on Wood:
How about:
Teddy Pendergrass
Smokey Robinson and the Miracles
Marvin Gaye
Maze
You Cannot talk about the 70’s with out talking about some FUNK!!
Funkadelic - Flashlight
Funkadelic - Atomic Dog!!
Funkadelic - One Nation Under a Groove
And some classic R&B
James Brown TRY ME
That’s what I’m talkin about fellas. Cake- great list man. Unfortunately you linked to “Proud Mary” for like four of them hahaha.
But still great songs on there.
The two that I mentioned before-
“Ain’t No Love in the Heart of the City” - Bobby "Blue" Bland - Ain't No Love in the Heart of the City - YouTube
“We’ll Find a Way”- edwin starr & blinky we'll find a way - YouTube
“I’m losin You” - - YouTube
James and Bobby Purify- - YouTube
Otis Redding- These Arms Of Mine Otis Redding (***Lyrics Included***) .:oldies:. - YouTube
Sam Cooke- - YouTube
Otis doing Sam- - YouTube
Etta James- Etta James Sunday Kind of Love - YouTube
George Benson- - YouTube
Marvin Gaye- - YouTube
More Marvin- Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler) - YouTube
Bill Withers- Bill Withers - Use me - YouTube
For the record, I think it’s a toss up between Marvin Gaye and Sam Cooke for best soul singer of all-time, but Otis Reddings voice personifies soul to me. I could post this stuff all day.
You’ll enjoy this blog
Also, this isn’t a classic, but Rapheal Saadiq [former lead singer of Tony Toni Tone!] is putting out some quality stuff, and you can never go wrong with Sade. oh yeah, Norah Jones ain’t half bad.

When I was about 5 years old in 1991 my dad bought be a box of 45’s at a garage sale and it was almost entirely old motown records, I was the only kid at my all white Indiana grade school who said I wanted to be a Temptation on career day.
