Great training G.
The KB stuff looks like a lot of fun.

Your new avi rocks! Your training is, of course, just inspirational.
What are you doing for shoulder mobility? Oddly enough I’ve found that squatting every day has helped with my shoulders.

Thanks James. I am doing some traction stuff with the bands to try to open up the joint along with a shoulder warm-up (front raise, lat raise, lat raise with supination going all the way overhead, bent raise and bent extension with 2.5 lbs) and some basic cuff work. Occasionally band pull apart and band dislocates but sometimes i just run out of time.
I assume by helping your shoulders you mean flexibility and mobility from squatting?

That’s exactly what I mean. I also keep a band at work now and do pull aparts and shoulder dislocations too. There’s never enough hours in the day for all of this is there?

I like this block allot
solid work
I am liking the air humps hips thrusts allot
eitehr bw on a TRX or loaded up they seem to be helping.
its funny you say that about college trainees-
my wrestling guys paid no attention to me- til I figured out
to work and train harder
each time I changed coaches, schools - I found I had to train harder
I was lucky to work with some S&C types - for whom ‘no’ just did not exist.

Hip thrusts are awesome, i had read about them but never really tried then Up talked about them and i gave them a shot. I am not using any weight right now as my hammies want to take over so i have to do them slow and deliberate but i really see them as a solid exercise.
Its funny how the people that get the attention seem to sometimes think they are getting picked on because you are pushing them. I always say if i don’t say a word to you, thats when you got to worry…lol.

Lol no there isn’t.
The SAID principle is an amazing thing isn’t it. We often forget about it but really is a stable of training.
Thanks dday!
Joe i am really liking the kb’s. This is my humble and somewhat uneducated opinion based on how i have been using them.
First off i am using them in a condo type setting and i know there are tons of different exercises and regimes of kb training. I have been using the basic movements (swing, clean, press, squat, high pull and snatch)
remind me a bit of the oly lifts for the following reasons:
very little eccentric work
technique is definitely a factor
you can’t move them slow on most exercises
get a basic triple extension of body (loosely using the term)
loads the glutes, upper hams, low back and upper back + shoulders
working my grip (lol)
challenging
I think some of the differences are:
you can grind through reps/time with kb’s easier than oly lifts (say in a bb complex), technique is important but not a limiting factor.
You alternate arms which has been helping my shoulder mobility
seems to work the core a bit differently from the unilateral loading
Gets heart rate high and can maintain that with the alternate arm stuff
new challenge
do it right in my living room if i want lol.
What weight(s) are you using with the KBs? I’m deciding between either getting a couple of fixed weight KBs and adjustables.
Hmm even with the squeeze at the top your hammies do the work?
I keep forgetting to get in gym for the free KB class, I think it starts up soon. I have to wonder though If we change and do KBs in there too, will I know if my body changed again
(yes wishful thinking) was it from added condo, Kbs, spinning, running lol OR will it even matter just knowing the whole combo. worked???
Are you having a bday countdown? With mine being on the 4th I seem to have a bday weekend all the time. Did you have any goals you wanted to reach before this bday, just curious. I know you always seem to have a plan…

I am using the 35 lb, it seems to be a pretty good weight although I think i could use a 44 lb on the ladder. The day i did the 4 min straight i used a 26 lb. But i like the challenge of short rest etc. I do have a wide variety thought (26,35,53,71,84,106 lbs). I just watch for used ones on craigslist for the most part. I think lighter is ok if you are using it for some condo or an extra workout? I think having a 26?, 35, 44 might be a good place to start but again i am just figuring this kb stuff out, kinda of lol.

If my hammies take over on the way up then there is no squeeze at the top lol. If i go slow and focus on glutes all is well. So as soon as the glutes get going ill add some weight (cant let you smoke me on these forever ![]()
I think just knowing that the combo worked will be most important? I see the additions as just a variety of things that will vary from week to week. So unless one of them really clicks and we run with it a bit I’ll assume the changes will come from the lifting program and just condo in general? Make sense?
Hmmm…yes on countdown…been trying not to celebrate all month lol. No real goals by birthday but a few to start on my birthday. Really want to get off coffee for good, i cut soda out i think 4 years ago and have had none and i want to do that with coffee. Second goal is try to take my nutrition to the next level and see what happens with body comp, strength and fitness level…(of coarse that doesn’t include beer). I know you are lucky being on the 4th, everybody celebrates your birthday lol. My dad is the 5th, he says he was a dud…ha ha ha.
I don’t know about getting off coffee. Diabetes, heart / stroke, Parkinson’s and dementia, cancer may all be positively affected.

…they have not seen the size of your “mug” lol
That being said i think not filling up said mug, would be a good place to be. Not to mention may be just the kick you need some days. Plus arent you a tad “cranky” with out it?

Yea, big mug with multiple fill ups. I know moderation, struggle with that sometimes…lol. Ha ha ha did you just call me cranky lmao…although you might be right lol.
And our beloved beer is also key to a healthy heart and brain. Which is good…since I wasn’t going to stop anyway.

HAHAHAH! Too funny.
Life is too short to live without coffee!
Hmm…bridges confuse my body. When I do bridges with my feet and shoulders on the ground, I’m all glutes. But once I elevate my feet I’m all hamstrings. I swear I was even advised by an old trainer friend of mine to do “single leg pop ups” with feet elevated to strengthen my hams…but now I’m not sure! I guess I’ll have to really think about my glutes next time I do my bridges - I’m going to try them with shoulders and feet elevated a la Upscale and see how I fare.
Happy soon to be birthday! (i’m pre-dating you, haha!)

I have been loving my blue moons and shock top Belgian white lately. Nothing like sitting on the patio by the fire pit with a cold one or going to get some fish tacos and washing them down with a shock top!!!
