Don’t you have to have a qualifying total to do that meet? Thought you haven’t done a meet in awhile . . .

Yeah, my meet is close. I’m getting excited. Was dreading it a few weeks ago when things weren’t going my way. But I’ve been able to turn that around.[/quote]

Great on turning your training around. Your looking strong.
Qualified last year and did the Arnold this past spring. Haven’t really trained as serious or hard as i am now in a long time and just competed for fun but starting to get competitive again.

Did you compete Masters or Open?

Did both

Well todays bench went ok. Wasn’t really sure how shoulder would feel from the issue after last Thursdays dead, and pec has been sore so i proceeded with caution today.

Did some soft tissue work on pec, lats and shoulder pre workout

Bench
Did quit a few warm-ups with small jumps just to test the waters, after lots of sets of low reps went to the following
308/1
336/1
352/3
358/3
Prescribed workout for today in the perfect world was 360/3x3 but i had to be smart.358 felt the best of all sets as i think i was a little less cautious but overall happy with bench

No towel bench today or weighted push-ups
Did get some medium weight work in on the following

Press behind neck
120/5x5

Db row
100/3x5

T-bar row
175/3x5

Db tri
50/3x5

Ly tri to chin
135/2x10

Well shoulder/lat/pec feel good today. Probably less sore than yesterday so good news overall.

Yea thanks soldog…makes me nervous, don’t need any strains at this point.

Excellent lifting as always. Question about lifting shoes if you don’t mind. PM’ing so not to take away from your log.

put the shoe discussion here - I’m interested and I’m sure others are as well.

Solid work and great news on the shoulder.

I’m also interested in the shoe convo.

Here is a copy of the PM’s. Hope you don’t mind me posting this Germanone.

Been considering buying some shoes because I have a hard time getting depth and leaning forward however I’m no where near competative level. Really just learning a proper squat, would buying shoes be a bad move for a guy my speed or could it help with my problems? The last few months I have progressed where depth isn’t as much of an issue but the lean is still there. I can provide videos if that helps any.

Also if I buy shoes I only want to do it once and the Nike’s seem to be the front runner from what I’ve read. Would spending $200 on lifting shoes be out of line for a guy who is just in it to be better not to be on stage?

Thank you for any help

I would definetly get a pair of shoes. I have seen them help many lifters, actually just had a conversation with wendler this spring about squat shoes and even he is liking them…lol
I really liked the nike but they are pricey but i think worth the money. I think you can find shoes that are as cheap as 100? My last pair were pumas that i bought in 1986 and i still use them so if you take care of them they last a long time. Upscale is a good example of someone who wants to get better but probably will never compete but she is investing in gear since it helps her achieve her goals ie, nike squat shoes, power belt etc. So if your into it get good gear and don’t worry about your level or if you will ever compete or not.
Feel free to send vids and i’ll see if i can help.
Hope training is going well and i hope i answered your question?

Sure no problem. I’ll get back to you shortly on vid. Have some ideas

Hey Germanone - Did I read correctly you’re doing a competition in PA? If so, where is it exactly? I wouldn’t mind going to check one of them out as a spectator.

Thanks James.
Late not sure if i’ll make it? where in Pa are you?

I’m in the Lehigh Valley

Ah the good old lehigh valley…

Are you in PA as well?

No, grew up a little north of there. Headed west to college and never went back except to visit. That was in 84 so loooong time ago.

My 2 cents on the shoe thing. I tried squatting in my weightlifting shoes and found that I liked them for front squats, but found on back squats they shifted me forward a lot and I really felt it in my knees (in a bad way). But that’s just me and the way I squat is not really the best way to handle the most weight, so take it FWIW.

As far as building a shed goes, mines 15ft x 16ft and is ample. I have a rack, a hi-low pulley machine, dipping bars, a rusty old multi- gym, tonnes of DBs and plates and still have enough room in the middle to do deads and snatches. However, if I was building one again I’d go 15 x 20, you can’t have too much space can you?
