Old School Log

Thanks Kev, I think those squats felt a lot worse than they looked…lol
I think i have a pretty good library going I’ll try to post the books/authors tomorrow. Some are hard to read and i rarely read cover to cover but i use them a lot as a reference and eventually i get through the whole book. Some of those Russian manuals are like reading the white pages in the phone book…

My guess is when you’re reading one of those Russian manuals during the middle of a Siberian winter, it gets a whole lot more interesting!

Tuchscherer displays some awesome form in his videos.

The instructor in my spin class is always talking about that perceived exertion thingie. Is that what you guys are referring to?

Yes he uses RPE to control intensity and/or volume. I’ll post link to his website tmrw.

Here’s the link

Here are some interesting reads, i am sure there are many more…

Boris Sheiko- not sure name of book, i printed it from a file and am missing the cover

The training of the weight lifter - R.A. Roman

A system of multi-year training in weight lifting - A.S. Medvedyev

Programming and organization of training - Y.V. Verkhoshansky

Fitness and strength training in all sports - Hartmann and Tunnemann

Science of sports training - Kurz

Science and practice of strength training - Zatsiorsky

Supertraining - Siff

Strongest shall survive - Starr

Periodization - Bompa

Remember these books are theory oriented and don’t give you a program.

Squats looked great as did the pressing.

Out of curiosity, have you ever done the full smolov cycle?

Thanks.
No i generally don’t handle frequency type training very well. I played with it here and there but got beat up really quick.
Are you going to try it?

I am kicking around the idea of trying it after Worlds in Spetember. Squat as always been my worst lift and I think that maybe I need to give it that sort of attention.

That said I worry about dops in bench and DL by doing it.

I think if you can maintain your bench and increase your squat it would be worth pursuing. An increase in leg strength will also help your dead so it’s a 2 for 1 deal. Especially if you are in a period where your not going to compete for a while, just maintain the bench. IMO

Felt so-so about deads today. I wanted to pull without much mental psych and also right hip was pinching. You can see bar slow down for a seconds at about the knee (just below) then pick back up. When hip pinches feels like strength is gone for a second.

deads
485/505/485 x 3

Deads off 3" block (bar on block)
315/5x5 focus on glutes

Straight leg deads standing on 3" block
275/5x5

Power Clean
155/5x5

Good morning
185/5x5

Pull through
3x15

Rev hyper
2x15

stretch

Hip actually popped a few times during good mornings, felt better after

What are the chances of finding a prowler(knock off version) and a Q-bar training bar on craigslist with in a half an hour from your house and on the same day…
Needed a new bar as mine is about 20 years old, this one is gently used and will pick it up after the holiday. Prowler is a homemade version but guy did a good job and was about half the cost. Good news is that i may be able to get a log and some farmers walks made over the next few months.

Today lifted at the local YMCA
Keep wts medium and volume medium, wanted to workout but more to help get soreness out for next week.

Shoulder warm-up
Bench
240/3x5 to get soreness out

Narrow bench
260/3x5

Incline
220/3x5

Db row
100/3x8 Each

Db tri
45/50/50 x8 each

SCORE!!!

I know, i should go buy a lottery ticket…lol

Gave the prowler a try tonight.

4x50 yd push
2x40 yd run (couldn’t call it a sprint)
2x40 yd backward pull
Legs were smoking!!!

3 min rest between sets. Overall happy with the sled, need to get gannon tomorrow and do a little grading so surface is smoother and sled should go better. Got caught up a few times here and there.

Finally had time to go through your thread. Impressive. Watched most of the vids. They could be used as training aids for correct technique. Great stuff.

Thanks Hel, appreciate it. Still trying to refine some technique stuff but i think that is never ending.

Little grip work today

I used a 2 3/8 inch 2’ length pipe and ran a chain through it to hold weight
95 lbs 3x10 sec hold each hand

Plate lifts smooth side out (25/10)
35/3x each hand couldn’t get to 10 secs

Gripper (not sure what its called, the old “v” squeeze thing)
its the # 2 strength size
x7 reps each hand, couldn’t get it closed though
Hand were shot at tAlthough. Althought i did move 200 retaining wall landscape blocks (twice) today so i think my grip was tapped a bit to start with.

So when was the meet when you competed at 93? Was it recent? IPF? How’d you make out?

Love your new toy!

This has a whole boatload of innuendo given the hotness of the poster…
