Old School Internet

Lemme go pre-internet on ya’ll.

Who here played “Wordmunchers” or “Numbermunchers” in school? Oregon Trial got all the hype, but these were the real games to be playing.
While we’re going all pre-internet here, I used to go to school in a covered wagon. Uphill both ways.

About 10 years ago I was trying to download songs off Winmx through a 14.4k internet connection for days or even weeks and then praying to the computer gods that my cd-burner would produce something other than a coaster.

i played all of those in elementary school. it was so awesome. we also played a lot of odell lake (if anyone knows that game). we played them on those computers whose screens only displayed green and black.
Daaaamn @ the Odell lake reference, I would have never remembered that had you not mentioned it.
Do any of you guys remember that Dinosaur Zoo game? That and Oregon trail were hot shit. Can’t remember what the name of that damn Dino game was though…
DinoPark Tycoon?

YES!!! THANK YOU!

Downloading and burning Dreamcast games off IRC… the image files were in .cdi format.

Does anyone remember playing Elf Bowling about December 1999 a LOT?
Dial up internet that was fun ha!

One helluva porn message board back in the day!

Yahoo chat rooms and ASL

Getting excited when single file ‘‘porn pics’’ download at 4.4k/s instead of 4.3k/s. Then the disappointment when it finished to find it wasn’t what i hoped for :frowning: Damn limewire was a cruel mistress…

My first pc back in 97, 5.2gb hard drive and 128mb ram, the good old days!

But i think the best part was when everyone had a screen filter to protect against radiation!!!

This brings back some serious memories. Great thread idea.

Was anybody here geeky enough to be a SYSOP of a 2-node BBS specializing in 0-5 day NPD Warez, ANSI art and small but respectable section of adult .GIFs?

Umm, me neither. Nothing but cheerleader ass and felt-lettered sports jackets for this guy!

Thank god; I was beginning to think everyone on here were just a bunch of AOLosers.

Yes-- that’s what I was alluding to in my other post. ASCII BBS run from an Atari 800XL and an MPP1000E 2400 baud modem. Dial up peer-to-peer. Mid 80’s.

Got a bunch of 8-bit games from the day (no porn, though) from other BBS’s. BC’s Quest for Fire, Jetboot Jack Jet Boot Jack (Atari 800XL) - YouTube , Bruce Lee, Drop Zone, Karateka, and favorite Larry Bird vs Doctor “J” One-on-one etc

Jetpack!!!

My first computer was an Amiga 500. When Windows 95 came out, it revolutionized my life. The Internet was amazing. Geocities, modem beeps, and grandma getting peeved because she couldn’t call while we were online.

Man I feel old now.
