Old School Internet

I remember the first porn pic I ever saw was in 5th grade when we were supposed to be researching the Whitehouse in the computer lab and we all went to Whitehouse.com and… OMG TOPLESS GIRLS!!!

I still remember shaking from excitement and not knowing what to do about it, haha.

Obviously AIM was the cool thing to do after school back then.[/quote]

lol one kid did it, then every other boy in my 4th grade class made the same “mistake” and typed it in wrong. the teacher was losing it… that was 2 years before they put a filter on the school’s internet access.

Lemme go pre-internet on ya’ll.

Who here played “Wordmunchers” or “Numbermunchers” in school? Oregon Trial got all the hype, but these were the real games to be playing.

Daaaamn @ the Odell lake reference, I would have never remembered that had you not mentioned it.

I suppose 1999 original Everquest could be considered old school at this point.

i remember upgrading from a 386 to a 486 for 400 bucks.

2400 baud modem to a 14,400 modem was like the second coming

the first mp3 i ever downloaded was that titanic song through something called scour

bulletin board access, Lord of the Red Dragon or Legend of the Red Dragon or whatever

Do any of you guys remember that Dinosaur Zoo game? That and Oregon trail were hot shit. Can’t remember what the name of that damn Dino game was though…

Simcity2000 has been 10 years right? Also: SimTower, SimFarm, SimAnt, SimAntFarm, SimMyAnus.

Oregon Trail was absolutely brutal. I wish they made a modern, high-res version in “Call of Duty”-style graphics, just so we could get a more accurate portrayal of the insanity those settlers went through. Kids dying of dysentary, wives dying of cholera, oxen drowning in a river, said oxen being eaten due to starvation-induced dementia, a daily choice of either “strenuous pace” or “grueling pace”, fork-tongued Indians gaining your trust and stealing your shit…good freaking god!!

As a kid, I used to wonder “WHY the fuck do these jerks want to go to Oregon so badly?!”.

Longer I think, Sims has been around for ages.

I remember playing Warlords and Worms a long time ago too. The old PC games were on 5-1/4 disks - Karateka comes to mind, Carmen Sandiego etc.

I remember Leisure Suit Larry quite clearly as well haha.

x2 I was in fourth grade, wow…

Used to go to a Sabre site and type in commands to purchase air tickets. That was revolutionary, not using a travel agent.

I met my wife thru the 'net. Which is not that uncommon or weird now. But we just had our 11th anniversary and it took 3 years to get married. Do the math…that was early days of AOL. Met in a chat room called “Ask Female Anything”. Good times and very high monthly bills.

I still have that original Bondi Blue iMac… AND a purple one as well. They’re both in storage and probably worthless.
