Old Guy Strength

That’s an awesome day for your son and by the way you report it he seems to have a very focused and positive frame of mind.

Sounds like a great day for your son. I get more nervous watching mine play than I do competing in a meet.

He’s a great kid. I agree Dave. Watching my kids is way more nerve racking than anything I do. My daughter plays volleyball and tennis. With her it’s much easier, because I have no idea what’s going on.

10/25/15

Deadlift:
135 x 10, 185 x 5, 225 x 3, 275 x 1, 315 x 1
5 sets x 1 rep x 425

Rack Pulls:
425 x5
475 x 3
515 x 1

That was all for today.

10/28/15

Squats:
135 x 10, 225 x 5, 275 x 3, 315 x 1, 365 x 3, 415 x 3, 480 x 3

Front Squats:
135 x 5
185 x 5
225 x 5
255 x 5

Leg Extensions:
4 sets x 12 reps x 170

I’ll probably repeat this next squat day. I’m really not happy with the results. My form was kind of all over the place.

Numbers are impressive! But I understand the angst that comes with feeling like form is off.

Man, you are putting up some great numbers. Solid work.

Thanks. It’s been moving pretty well lately.

Bench:
135 x 10, 185 x 5, 225 x 3, 245 x 1, 275 x 1, 365 x 1, 400 x 1, 375 x 2, 355 x 3

Bench Against Band:
275 x 5

Bench Against Band with Five Second Pause:
265 x 1

Low Cable Crossover:
4 sets x 12 reps x 35

400 was not as solid as I wanted. I got suck just a little on the chest. My spotter gave me a little help, and then it moved up. 355 was also a little rough. I was too high on the bench, and I kept hitting the posts. I think I’ll repeat this session as well. I’ll also try to post the video of 400.

Please excuse the crappy music. I don’t have any control over that.

You may have got a little help at the bottom with that 400 but that was a nice fight with the weight.

Love the video! Not sure I’ve ever seen anyone wear a mouth guard when benching. Nice work!

Snap, I’ve spent too much money on these teeth. My dentist said I was clinching too hard and doing damage. I got my braces off a few years ago, so I want to make sure I get my money’s worth. I only use the mouth guard on heavy lifts.

I showed the video my friend who has been powerlifting for 30 years or more. He suggested to stay tighter and not to screw around so much before the lift. I think he was right on both accounts.

I had nothing planned today, other than stretching out my hamstrings. Done.

I see you getting in that solid ham work and building your core with those goodmornings, nice.

11/7/15

Bench:
135 x 10, 185 x 5, 225 x 3, 245 x 1, 275 x 1, 325 x 1, 400 x 1

Against Band:
275 x 5

Svend Press:
4 sets x 50 reps x 3 plates

I strained my left shoulder / pec area the other day during close grip bench. I thought it was all better until I started to warm up today. I had already planned on a deload bench week coming up. I thought about doing such this week when I felt my shoulder. I then decided just to go for it and try 400 and cut down the other work.

I concentrated on staying tight, and not screwing around so much before the lift. It came off my chest strong, and I was able to nail it. 400 is a raw PR for me. It is also more than I got in my meet in July, with the shirt on.

275 against the band really hurt. I cut everything out, and just finished with the Svend press. I’ll deload now, and hope to be 100% again in two weeks.

Congrats on the 400 and sorry to read about the shoulder strain. Hope you heal well and fast.

11/8/15

Thanks GV. It’s all good.

425 x 3
485 x 2

Laying Leg Curls:
4 sets x 10 reps x 150

Like everyone else I’ve been fighting a cold for the past five days or so (thanks wife and kids). It was a little struggle to breathe on about rep four and five. I had planned on doing more rack pulls, but I just did not feel any strength.
