Glad to see a post from you @OTHSteve! take some time to heal up and then start kicking ass again.
Time for a comeback!
Cue the entrance music.
Yer what’s up Steve??
Hey Steve where you at?
Anyone know how Steve is doing?
Haven’t heard from him. Steve you out there ???
Sorry, everyone, I’m still alive, just staying busy with work and non-gym stuff and I needed to disconnect from this for a little while. I’m dealing with some joint issues that may be arthritis, may be gout, but my wrists and ankles are hurting a lot, and my finger and toe joints, been getting progressively worse the last month. I’ve been going to the gym very tentatively, taking it easy and light, not logging anything. At least I seem to have reset my body’s default weight with the T-ransformation challenge, I’m still sitting around 185#.
I think I’m ready to jump back into the community here, hopefully without spending too much time like I was for a while. More to come.
Great to hear from you Steve, although sorry to hear about your joint issues. Sounds like you have managed to stay pretty lean which is a win. Glad to have you back mate.
Damn Steve, sorry that the first thing is joint issues. Hope you can sort it out.
But pleased to have you back in here.
It takes quite some time if you follow a lot of logs.
Go post your workouts, and at the same time reply to the posts that’s in your log.
I get gout flare ups on occasion and man they suck! Sorry to hear that Steve. My doc said to either cut my purines way back. I used to eat a ton of shrimp which is one of the highest purine foods. I cut it way back and viola no more gout. Man that crap hurts though
Whelp, it’s definitely arthritis, but it’s only seriously progressed in 3 places… My left wrist, my left big toe and my right ankle. All three are places where I have previously broken bones at the joint, so not terribly surprising, but it still sucks.
It’s not bad enough to prescribe anything other than NSAIDs at this point, and he also told me to start taking a boron supplement. Interestingly, I had been taking a boron supplement early in the year, and I stopped taking it at the end of April when I also stopped training, and it was shortly after that I started manifesting symptoms. The doc was really interested in where I heard about boron supplements to have been taking them, so I told him about this site. I should have given him the url, but I didn’t think about it at the time. Maybe I’ll do that when I follow up in a month, and we’ll have another MD on here.
I’ve started training again, just the last couple of weeks, and no surprises. Most of my strength is still there, but my stamina is garbage. My right shoulder is doing better, but my left shoulder is still shit, so heavy benching is out, and I’ll see how overhead press goes once I’m moving heavy weight again. I’m having to be very careful with front squat since my left wrist really hurts if I mess up or go forward on the rack position. My toe and my ankle don’t seem to be affecting my ability to do anything, they’re just barking at me and reminding me that I hurt. I guess this is the new normal to work around, but hopefully the boron supplements will help alleviate the symptoms somewhat once I get a decent amount back into my system.
It sounds like you need to train more like me and do less of the typical barbell movements. Barbell bench is silly unless you’re going to compete. OHP can definitely be replaced with DB’s to free up the movement. Front squats can be scrapped entirely.
I know equipment might be an issue, but if you have DB’s or bands then you can train effectively without being married to the barbell.
Glad you’re back and I hope to see you get back to pain free living and training.
Sorry to hear that Steve…
Not a doctor but I know quite a few that gets some relief using glucosamine, some natural crustaceans.
Well I hope you can live with it and find a way to go around it.
Good to have you back man, in whatever capacity.
Okay, another one of my patented 6+ month layoffs is over. Been busy between work, family and life in general, and getting a little exercise in occasionally, but mostly just failure to start again. I figured since I’m working from home for a while (I’m on a 2 week on site/2 week at home rotation with another supervisor), and I have a home gym, now’s a good time to get myself back into my routine. So, I’ve done 8 full body workouts over the past 2 weeks, and I’ve picked starting 5/3/1 1RM’s to reset with, and today I will start a new 5/3/1 cycle. Here are my 1RM/training maxxes:
Press: 160#/145#
Squat: 285#/255#
Bench: 180#/160#
Deadlift: 320#/290#
I’m not going to be measuring food and counting calories this time, I was sort of getting crazy about that. Just eating clean and getting enough food but not too much. I’ve been eating too much over the last little while, and I’ve ballooned up to 206#. Just stopping eating so much crap and starting to exercise again has brought me back down to 202#, and I’d like to get at least down to 190#. Here goes something!
Good to see you back man. Hope you and yours are well.
Hey Steve welcome back! Hope you and your family are well
Welcome back. If you need to kill about two days worth of time then try catching up on the logs. If not, then just start fresh with the recent posts.
I can relate to going crazy with the counting calories thing. I committed to stopping that behavior in September and I’ve managed to avoid My Fitness Pal all this time. I was 212 lbs when I started and I was 230 lbs this morning. My steady weight is about 226 and I’m happy with it. Last year’s T-ransformation cut was the start of some bad behavior with food for me. I had to let it all go so I could enjoy life a bit.
How’s the shoulder? Wasn’t it acting up when you went M.I.A.?
Welcome back big guy. Great to see you are ok
Welcome back, hope things are well.
