Old Guy Doing 5/3/1

Sorry to hear this, hope your recovery is on the shorter side!

Sorry to hear about the shoulder. Fix asap so you can continue dominating. Shit happens!

Dang dude. You were on a roll. Sorry to hear about the shoulder

Well, semi-good news from the orthopedic surgeon. I don’t have a torn labrum or jacked-up rotator cuff (well, he said everyone over 40 has some level of damage there, but my function is good so I have nothing to stress over). I do have a sprained proximal biceps tendon, which is what has been causing my problems. It’s pretty inflamed, and when my shoulder ‘pops’ the tendon is popping out of the groove, sort of like what @Frank_C had going on with his biceps tendon I guess. He told me to take NSAIDS, don’t do any of the things that make it pop for 6-12 weeks, and it should sort itself. He also gave me some rotator cuff specific work to do, and recommended low weigh/high rep work for any shoulder exercises during this time, so maybe I need to jump on the body building bandwagon?

Is your pain worse when you supinate your forearm - like going from a reverse grip curl to regular curl with your elbow at 90 degrees?

Oh, boy - the world’s going mad! Actually, I feel pretty darn good these days but it’s probably because I’m not doing any real leg training. It’s shown me how taxing that can be. Bring on the beach muscles!

Damn Steve sorry to hear that, but good news, that you’d avoid the knife.
Just keep it easy do stuff that don’t stress the strained muscles and you’ll be good.
Bodybuilding is the way :slight_smile:

Hey just caught up on your log. Sorry to hear about the shoulder, but that’s good that you will be able to do light work. If you do decide to start some bodybuilding stuff, it might actually build up some musculature that could help later strength training.

Anyway, I’m sure that the rehab will go fine since you have a pretty good knack for training smart

Awesom news! Just a rehab project. Nothing requiring the knife.

How’s it going @OTHSteve? That’s good news on the shoulder. Rehab that baby back.

Got a gameplan for training with the shoulder ailment? What’s your BW at?

How’s everything progressing with the shoulder? Haven’t seen you posting lately… hope everythings ok.

Steeeeeevve?

Come on, man. I hope you’re not repeating your bad cycle of train, get hurt, quit, detrain, repeat. Come back to us!

Yer brother where art thou !!?

Heal up mate

@OTHSteve Are you good man.

@Frank_C @mortdk @muskratlifts @losthog @IronOne @jackolee @simo74 @duketheslaya Thanks to all for checking up!

Sorry, everyone. I’m trying to get healed up, but have needed to disconnect for a little bit to get my head right. I was spending too much of my emotional energy on training, diet, and posting and reading on here (I know you can relate, @Frank_C ) , and getting hurt really got into my head, so I decided to take a break. My shoulder isn’t really getting any better even though I’ve been following the Dr’s advice, but I’ll be back to training in a week or so and just work around it and accept that this is the new normal.

As far as training, I’ve gone running a couple of times, but stayed out of the gym. I still can’t get a good night’s sleep because moving wrong triggers sharp pains in my shoulder which wake me up. I’m hoping training around it will help strengthen everything up, like it did with my knee, but we’ll see. Like I said, I’ll be back to real training and posting in a week or so. I’m getting back to the gym and to posting soon, since I don’t want to fall back into my old cycle. 3 weeks off isn’t enough to totally kill my gains, but I’m still going to ease back into things and make sure not to exacerbate the injury.

Good attitude. We all have setbacks. You’ll be your best version in no time.

Thanks for checking in! You’re still young and plenty active so don’t be afraid to get permanently repaired.

I go under the knife next Wednesday.

Hang in there man. Don’t feel obligated to post or read my stufff. Just get well and stay healthy

Wont like the post Steve, Sorry to hear you’re still hurt. Glad to see you posting again.
Important stuff is to get well, if it takes some time away from the gym and forum so be it.

I understand man. I’ve had both physical and psychological setbacks, and I know it sucks. I’m sorry you feel this way, and I’m rooting for you
