Ok, So What's The Delio? (Protein)

I’ve heard that the male body can only metabolize 40 grams at a time, then I’ve heard that it can handle more.

So what’s the truth? I’m I just going to piss away anything over 40 grams or so?

too many people ask it.

Kevinlee there are too many factors to have a “one size fits all” answer for this question. Height, weight, and your body’s current state during the day makes a big difference.

Id bet an active person is gonna absorb a hell of a lot more than someone who sits on their ass.

Also a 250 pound guy over six feet tall with a good amount of muscle is going to be different than a female half his size.

No one really knows how much you can use at a time.

First worry about getting 1 gram per pound per day, then worry about spreading it out as evenly as possible. If you are ingesting too much at a time one of the signs may be horrible gas, of course this can also be caused by other factors.

How about looking at it this way:

Why don’t we worry about the limit our bodies can metabolize fats and carbs? We take for granted that the body metabolizes all this stuff we put in our stomach.

People get fat. So the body must metabolize everything. It’s how we use the food that determines where the body puts it.

I am of the opinion that as the body needs fuel or building materials, food is used or passed.

How do you know how much protein is enough? You can’t. Eat more than enough to make sure you get enough. There is no set number of grams.

I like the error on the side of:

“more is better”

if I can use only 40 grams then I damn sure give my body at least that much and a little more to grow on…

40 grams at a time is total BS. Why in the world would your body not be engineered around using all of it. 40grams isn’t a HUGE amount either. Thats like 8oz of steak I think. I don’t believe that I can eat a 16oz steak and only digest 8oz of it.

If that where so, wouldn’t your poop look a lot more steakier.

Being digested and being metabolized are two different things. That’s why I was asking. I"m not really a biologist so I was curious.

Why is it that everyone who worries about “too much protein in one sitting” weights 135 lbs.? Just saying…

just make sure to eat protein ever 2-3 hours and have a great post workout drink and i think you should be fine…just eat!

Who weighs only 135?
