OK, Let's Lift! And 1 and 2 and 1 and 2

8 sets of 12, 90 seconds rest. first set at 225, the rest at 185. 14 minutes. I can’t remember the last time my legs were so weak several hours after the workout. I almost fell when I tried to go up some stairs.
Ha!

I guess this proves “it” then. It being whatever was argued in that thread. I don’t even know who was arguing what by the end. Except that somehow a weight you squatted 20 times without racking was “not your 20RM” because you stopped in the set to take a breath.
hahahahahahahaha. I’m gonna look at the glass as half full on that thread though. If it hadn’t gone so long, and been so ridiculous, I wouldn’t have even considered doing this workout. I’m 2 days past the workout, and I can still barely walk. That’s a hell of an effect for 14 minutes of lifting.

I actually decided to do something similar with my bench press yesterday, although not exactly the same. I worked up to 3x275 for 2 sets, then dropped the weight to do 6 sets of 12, 1 minute between sets. I started with 185, ended with 115, and didn’t even get all my reps on the last set. 115. Seriously.

Then pullups, then arm stuff, then facepulls. Chest feels about like my legs today. I’m realllllly hoping I can adapt to this high volume/low rest stuff fairly quickly.

squats

worked up to 425x2, then 4 sets of 225x10, no full lockouts. Legs feel really good right now.

last night was probably the worst training session I’ve had in a looooong time.

I took 3g taurine before heading to the gym. first time I’ve ever supplemented with taurine as a stand alone supp. I started feeling kinda sick almost immediately at the gym.

Worked up to a 315 single bench press. Then did weighted dips with a 50 lbs dumbbell. Was feeling really nauseous at this point. Got through 3 sets of pullups and felt like I was gonna vomit. Hung out in a bathroom stall for about 20 minutes, felt a little better, then went home.

So now I have to figure out if it was the taurine or just a coincidence, maybe something I ate. Hopefully I can test it out again tonight.

Well last night made up for the night before. Felt fantastic going into my session, thought it was going to be good. I was not disappointed.

deadlifts

Worked up to a 545 deadlift, and it moved fast. Had 20 more lbs minimum in me. So I consider my deadlift strength to be essentially back at the best it’s ever been. That’s good. I followed that with a set of 405x12, straps, no belt.

Finished with pull ups and face pulls.

squats

another good session to log. best squat session I’ve had since my meet in June.

squatted 415x5, 415x4, then did a drop set. 415x3, 325x5, 275x5, 225x5, 135x10. only enough rest to unload the plates, although I didn’t rush to unload them, lol.

felt strong. none of these sets were a true max rep set. the 415x5 set could have been extended by 1 or 2 reps.

bench press

315x2, then 3 sets at 225. first 2 sets were 10 reps, last was like 6. Then pull ups, lateral raises with 30’s, and band curls/extensions

I did deadlifts. They was good.

Plates were a bit scarce, so I was only able to work up to 485 for my top set. I figured this would be a good opportunity to bang out an AMRAP set. Knocked out either 8 or 9 reps, no straps. Not necessarily a ‘true’ AMRAP set, as I didn’t actually hit failure, but I could tell I was getting rather close to passing out, and I didn’t have anyone to catch me, lol. So I cut the set off there. Reps were TnG.

After this I dropped the weight to 405. Planned to do a few triples at this weight, but on my second set of triples, I felt a strain in my right biceps, so I stopped. Finished with hamstring curls.

Bench press

worked up to 335x1. Not a grinder, but difficult. then 2 sets of 275x5. Then incline for 3x10 @185. Pull ups, face pulls.

Strong work flip! Deadlift is very nice. Did you ever end up doing a NASA meet?

nah, I did apf. I wrote about it a few pages back in my log, don’t know if you missed that. totaled 1472 in the 181 class. I have no idea what fed I’ll compete in next. whatever’s convenient. I plan on waiting until I can put up something around 1600 before I compete again.

worked up to a 455 squat single last night. Feeling strong again. I totally got out of position on the rep, weight shifted to my toes, and I lost tightness, and I still had no trouble completing the rep with good speed. After that I did hack squats up to 3 plates and a 35 on each side, for sets of 10. I think I did 4 sets.

Took about a week off from lifting. Not really on purpose, just couldn’t get to the gym.

I did a ‘powerlifting class’ at a gym called Dallas Strength and Conditioning. It was basically a set workout, with 6 or 8 people in the class, and a coach who walked around and gave advice. It was pretty cool.

Started with 4 sets of 3 on bench press. the 3rd and 4th set were at the same weight. I did 275, 295, 305, 305, all for triples. This was followed by dropping to 205 for 2 sets. I got 16 reps and 6 reps. Didn’t rest long between these last 2 sets.

Next was Z presses, 3 sets of 6. I used 95 lbs on this, because I’m quite terrible at the movement.

Then 3 sets of 8 pushups, 55 lbs on my back. Failed at rep 6 on the last set.

Finished with skullcrushers. 1 set at 95, 2 sets at 65.

Really killer workout. took 1.5 hours to complete.

Deadlifted last night, and had a training PR. I got 565x1. I did 585 in my meet in June, But I never actually hit 565 in training prior to that. So that was good. Also did good mornings for 3 sets of 10 with 205, then pull ups.

I also saw a guy running around the track with dumbbells in his hands and a bane mask. Weird.

You are a fucking beast dude.
Side note: how heavy were Bane’s dumbbells? I like to imagine they were 100lbs.

They looked like 20’s maybe.

Squatted on Friday night. Big squat night. Think I hit a PR, will check log to confirm.

Warmups, then 405x3, 455x4(rep PR), 405x3,405x3. Then 315 for 2 sets of 10, constant tension stopping just before lockout, and pausing the last rep of both sets for about 4 seconds at the bottom. No real reason for the pauses, just wasn’t completely fatigued and wanted to make it more challenging.

A couple things:

FIRST: I started a thread in GAL about this, but I met Ct Rockula in real life. Anyone who follows my log should check out that thread.

Also, I bench pressed the other day. 345x1 paused, then 5 or 6 sets of 3 at 300. Then dips, pull ups, and curls.

squatted Friday night.

I took 405 for max reps. Really wanted a PR here, and just couldn’t get it done. I hit 10 reps, and on the 10th rep, I nearly passed out. Like way too close for comfort, considering I didn’t have a spotter or a rack to dump the bar. Couldn’t give rep 11 a shot. I maybe could have gotten it done if I had paced myself on the set better, but I knocked it out pretty quickly.

I mean, from the sounds of it, you just squatted your 1rm for 10 reps, so that’s awesome!

Literally every time I squat now, I think about that conversation. I believe the first 5 reps of this set would have counted. I ended up having to breathe after that though.

It was definitely one of the craziest exchanges I’ve ever been a part of. Seemed like a case of overthinking and underworking.
