OK, Let's Lift! And 1 and 2 and 1 and 2

thanks for the support guys! just wanted to provide a little update from the last 2 days.

Things are going very well. Yesterday I cut off water at noon, at which time I drank 2 Coors Lites, a la the Kabuki water cut method, and took 1.5g dandelion root. Got home from work at 5, and I was down to 184.5 I believe. Well on track for 181, so I had a couple handfuls of hazelnuts. Probably around 4g. At 730, I was about 3 lbs off from 181, so I ate 3 eggs in olive oil. Woke up at 7am this morning at 182. Did a couple 10 minute sessions in the sauna, then headed to my weigh in, where I came in at 180.2, at 9am. Made it easily! And I never experienced much discomfort.

Refeed so far:
Drank a liter of pedialyte, along with a glass of orange juice, 2 glasses of water, a waffle with strawberries and whipped cream, 3 slices of bacon, and 3 eggs. This brought me back to 185. Been sipping on Plazma since then, 2 scoops in 44oz of water. Lunch in about 30 minutes. I’ll drink 1 more bottle of pedialyte, then another 2 scoops of Plazma in 44oz water, then a snack of some sort, then dinner. Will be monitoring weight the whole time. I’d like to go to bed around 195-198.

I’ll also get to the gym this evening and do some sets of 20 with just the bar on all the main lifts.

Congrats on easily making weight. That’s always a positive. Best of luck with the meet!

Following along, good luck!

Thanks man! And I agree. I followed a good plan (regarding the cut), and I believe it should lead me to hit some big weights. I feel great right now. and a 10 lb PR on each lift would give me an elite total. I’ll definitely take that for a first meet. I distinctly remember, not that long ago, when I thought a 1200 lbs total was probably not within reach.

Excited for you dude!

Would wish you good luck but I know you have the elite total in the bag! Kill it tomorrow

Best of luck!

mornin’ y’all.

So I woke up Saturday morning at around 192 lbs I believe. Had a good breakfast right before the meet, and then throughout the meet consumed something like 6-8 scoops of Plazma. Also ate a pop tart and a Finibar. I believe the Plazma did an incredible job of keeping me hydrated and strong throughout the meet. So without further ado, here’s what I did.

512/374/584. All those are within like 1 lb of what I lifted. I can’t remember exactly, because this is converted from kilos. But it’s about right. All 3 were PR’s. My bench and deadlift second attempts were also PR’s. I went 9/9. Totaled 1470. Most of my lifts were an absolute smoke show. Killed them all. I probably could have hit a 600 deadlift, and a 380 bench. Squat was closer to my max, but I definitely had at least a little more in me. I couldn’t be happier with my performance though. A great first meet for me. Hoping to compete again in about 6-8 months.

Thanks to everyone who supported me. You guys are awesome. I’ll try to get some videos up soon.

Basically 3 meals and a bunch of pedialyte/water/Plazma got me there within 6ish hours.

Back in the gym.

I think I mentioned this before, but I’m going to take a break from squats for a bit to let my elbows heal. So last night I did 5 sets of 8 on the hack squat machine, with 290 on the machine. I love that thing. Did 50 chin ups as well, then 3 or 4 sets on the hamstring curl machine. That was it. I hadn’t trained with any volume in the last 2-3 weeks, so my conditioning has taken a bit of a hit. I get out of shape so fast, lol.

Also:

I’m starting my ‘winter bulk’ next week, for anyone interested in following that. I believe I’ll have time to get at least 4 gym sessions in per week over the next few months. I’m also going to ensure that I eat enough to maximize growth.

I have fairly specific goals for this bulk.

  1. I will see 200 lbs on the scale for the first time in my life.
  2. I will bench press 385 lbs.
  3. I will squat 495.
  4. I will deadlift 605.

Yes, I realize these are lofty goals. My overall goal is to eventually total 1500 lbs in a meet before I retire from lifting. So that’s why these goals are what they are. This leaves me just short of 1500. I’m not suggesting I’m giving up lifting anytime soon, but I know I won’t be in my physical prime forever. I turn 31 in a month and a half. So the sooner I can hit some legitimately big numbers, the better I’ll feel.[/quote]

Well, 1 and 3 are in the books now officially. 2 is sooooo close, and I might actually be there if I gave it a shot. I’m not hitting any maxes right now though. 4 is 20 lbs off. Overall, I’m pleased with this progress. It took more than the 5 months I suggested, I think it’s been about 8. But by the end of the year, I should be well past this. My new goal for a meet is actually 1550 in the 198 class. It’s a much more modest goal in terms of improvement on all my lifts than this previous goal was. And I’m allowing myself more time to hit it. Training has been great, but improvements have to slow at some point.

I’m a bit late, but congratulations at the meet. Nice work.

Back in the gym last night. 2 gym sessions in 2 weeks. loooooooooool.

Anyway, both benches were occupied when I showed up, so I started with pull ups. Did 60 of these. Benches were still full, so I did barbells curls, 3x10, 80 lbs. Finally a bench opened. I worked up to 345x1. Real grinder. I was ok with that though, since I was already fatigued. Did dips after. Then home. I was feeling really nauseous. Drank waaaaaaay too much on Sunday, and I wasn’t fully recovered from that.

gym again. omg 2 days in a row!!!

set a deadlift PR. That was exciting. deadlift is feeling so much better. I warmed up to 455, and it felt light in my hands, so I decided to shoot for a rep PR at 505. I got 8 reps. i’ll have to look through my log to confirm, but I believe this is a 5 rep PR. TNG reps, no straps. I believe I could have gotten 10 reps, but my knees were shaking pretty good, and I didn’t want to risk injury just to set a rep PR in the gym, lol. But my deadlift is very strong right now. 600 is right around the corner, I believe. I’m also ‘off’ my supplementation right now, so any gains I can make are a really big deal. Just maintaining will be enough for me to be satisfied.

Congratulations about the meet, and about the deadlifts.
Re: dips, how much weight, if any, and how much volume do you do for these?
