thx Matty.
And again , sry I haven’t been around other folks’ logs much lately, been working a lot. Just getting in my workouts, and catching up on a few logs, then gotta go get something done.

Great job on the PR’s
Ogre good job always nice to get a PR. Now work on some serious reps with 315, I see a death squat in your future. I say this only as a caution, you just got a PR make sure you proceed in a cautious manner, my injury is to fresh in my mind.
Thx, Bulldog.
And Dude, hehe, but I can’t proceed with caution, well, not too much caution, anyhow. I liek the stares and quiet that happens in the gym when I am about to squat twice as deep as anyone else in there with twice the weight of most, heh. Today was nuts, it was quiet as hell on my 3rd set of 335’s.

No 420 for me, at least not in like 15 years, anyhow.
Squat - don’t call it rehab anymore, I am just hitting it, i am tired of rehab already.
-with SSB- - acting like its 45 lbs, even though it feels lighter. doesn’t matter, i hate it, am unbalanced with it, it doesn’t sit on the traps, its up against the neck, and I am used to a wide grip for good balance, this thing aggravates the hell out of me.

I couldn’t take the SSB, I had to go back to the regular bar. It bothers my shoulder some, but at least I did much less volume with it than normal, and will lay off upper body for a little bit longer, to see if the shoulder heals up some.
The squat PR’s will continue to come, I am going to nail it for a while. If i didn;t have the knee caving issues, i could have done 5 or so I think. As it is, the 1st looked good on the knees, then the 2nd of each set was iffy. The knees never went far enough to have an inside angle, but they did come into the point of my legs being straight from hip to foot, instead of the knee being at an outside angle. This is huge improvement from before. I will just keep the heavier stuff to sets of 1 or 2 for a while.
No vids, the daughter had her camera, and I couldn’t bring myself to use the old blurry one.
I thought about what has changed since my arm started bothering me, and I think it might be the deadlifting, the left arm is the arm I have been supinating with on heavy pulls, and it started hurting the last 2 weeks, when i started mixing up the grip. I am laying off deadlifts, and upper body work for a week or so, and just gonna squat a bunch, I love it. I will try to use the SSB more to help the left side heal too, but no promises.

One thing that may save the bicep while deadlifting is to flex the tricep as you take your grip. The bicep can’t activate.
And in line with 4/20. Was that the Grateful Dead doing their rendition of Good Lovin’ while you were squatting? I could swear that’s Bob Weir singing.
Rather than lay off DLing altogether, consider using straps with an overhand grip. Shelby Starnes does this to protect his biceps and ensure even muscle development. For a bodybuilder this makes sense and it could be useful in an injury situation. His 600 x 4 is impressive.
When the bicep feels better you can ease back in with an alternating grip. Bicep tendinitis can take months to sort itself out.
I hope it doesn’t take me months.
Today was horrible, the arm is aching constantly after the squats yesterday. I will lay off upper body for at least this week, and most likely next, and on leg days, will use the SSB, even though i hate it.
I have actually been debating the pain vs pushing my squats more. I have been ‘rehabbing’ for a month or so, and it feels really good to be pushing up the weight, I don’t want to stop. I know I will just make it worse, and end up worse off because of it, but it is still on my mind, heh.
I have been doing a lot of shoulder rotational stuff, scarecrows, etc, and am pretty sure its not a shoulder issue, that it is definitely something in my upper arm. I will just try to get used to the SSB, and let the arm heal.
Guess I need to start doing more cardio, heh. Don’t wanna get fat while healing.
Sorry about the arm. I had tendinitis for about a year as the result of aggressively / stupidly trying to ramp up my weighted chins.
Squats sucked (as you know), some back movements were a problem and bicep work was severely limited. If I had to do the recovery over again I would have stopped ANY movement that caused pain until it was under control and then add stuff back in carefully, initially used more ibuprofen to get the inflammation down and used more aggressive soft tissue massage. I probably should have found an ART practitioner.
I don;t think my problem is biceps related, or triceps related really, I can flex the hell out of both fairly pain free. It might actually be something with the shoulder referring pain down to the upper arm, bursitis maybe. I have also started feeling pain just past the elbow joint as well.
I went to the gym with the wife today, the small gym, so no safety squat bar, so no squatting at all.
I just sat on the bike for 35 mins, and did some abs after… dumb me did some ab rollouts and stirred up my shoulder pain, I was feeling good after a weekend of resting it, but tomorrow back to work, carrying parcels, and trays full of mail, and such. No rest there… no day off til thursday, will definitely try to set up an appt to see someone then. Hopefully I live that long, the pain becomes horrendous by the end of a work day.
you know actually, I don;t think it can be bursitis either, because like I said the other day, i can do rotations, dislocates, etc, pain free. The flexing the tri’s and bi’s doesn’t hurt much, but it actually does provide a slight deep ache after.
I have been thinking about it all weekend, and what seems to fit the way it hurts is a fracture of some kind. I don’t think it’s likely at all, since I have a very sturdy frame, have never had a broken bone, other than a compound dislocation of my pinkie finger playing football. And I drink about 2 gallons of milk a week, along with taking multivitamins, and extra magnesium supps. My bones should be hard as hell.
But it starts 'hurt’ing when I put stress on my arm, lifting more than 10 lbs or so, etc, but like I said, when I flex alone, it doesn’t hurt, it just kind of ‘aches’ slightly afterwards. The pain also feels deep, like in the bone, it always has. I was reading a little about this kind of pain, and found things like bone cysts, and cancer, etc come up, but as mine is brought on by activity, and not just there, they are unlikely.
Is there some way I could have a small stress fracture in my humerus, and this could be causing the pain? Not enough of a fracture to cause any bruising or swelling, but enough to cause pain that increases as stress to the bone increases?
On a side note, I found a bottle of Hydrocodone in our medicine cabinet, hehe. I’ll get by until I can get to the dr somehow, heh. The 4grams of ibuprofen a day aren’t enough to help at all when I have to actually do stuff with the arm.
Ogre Good to see the numbers coming up fast. About the possiblity of stress fracture, does the pain ease up alot with activity, this can be a sign of a stress fracture. And about the Ibuprofen go easy on that stuff it will kill your liver ( the single most overdosed drug ) A study done a couple of years ago showed no benefit in taking more than 2 at a time. I try to never take more than 6 in a day, if thats not working talk to your doc, maybe a combination of drugs would work better. I am pretty much over my back issues and starting full workouts in 2 days.
DUDE!
You are putting me to shame, here. Really, really solid lifting.
Kent, but I can’t dance while lifting/running, so you still have 1 up on me.
Dude, yeah, I have slowed down the ibuprofen some, and have an appt this afternoon with the shoulder guy I went to for my other one. Grats on your getting back at it, hopefully it won’t be too long before I am as well.
About the stress fracture thing, it doesn’t hurt while the bar is on my back, it starts as soon as I put it down. And when just moving stuff around with my arm, it starts hurting during if it’s something fairly heavy, but afterwards i get the ache if its not too heavy. Not sure how that fits the stress fracture symptoms, but we’ll see later today at the Ortho, I hope.

Sounds like a tendon issue when you describe it like that. Good luck with the Doctors office , just don’t let them con you into drinking any Koolaid. Ask a lot of questions and repeat yourself if your unsure remember its your dime.

You’re going to have to explain that one to me, I don’t get it!
Had a great Post just snuffed by cyber space. Anyway its a frequently used term to desribe, people that buy in to what your saying without thinking it through. Crossfit.com is the most commonly used reference, (If you do crossfit you drank the Koolaid).
We as americans have our pocket books streched to the breaking point by doctors that are gun shy about lawsuits, or prescribe drugs that are invogue at the time. When going to the doctor you really need to take avery active roll and ask a lot of questions. Communicate what you expect ( Doc I know my shoulders messed up but I just want to know did I do something really bad to it, or will I be able to continue at a slower pace and expect a full recovery . And don’t drink the Koolaid. Ogre sorry for the Highjack.
