Mc Hammer played at Wembley stadium? Wembley stadium which has seen the Who, Queen, Stones, etc…?

Surely you jest?

No, I don’t mean MC Hammer at Wembley in '89.

I really hope you do not expect any of the real soccer fans on this site to give two shits about what you have to say. I stopped reading your crap after you said “it’s just a game”

Not that I expect much from an Englishman, honestly.

What the fuck is that supposed to mean?

It means what I said. Nothing more, nothing less. I can, however, elaborate on what drove me to that opinion: you have clearly different values, and kicking people while they’re down doesn’t seem to be frowned upon as much as it is in Southern Europe. Southern Europeans might be primadonnas sometimes (heck, it’s an Italian word!), be quite theatrical, and generally have no regard for rules or law (most Southern Europeans like to see themselves as rebels at heart who have questionable respect for authority), but we simply never, EVER kick people while they’re down. Actually that’s the first thing I remember my Portuguese grandfather telling me.

What bad call?? Henry beat Carvalho and was clearly fouled, it was a penalty. I don’t get how anyone who has seen the incident, either in real time or especially on the replays can say otherwise with a straight face?!

A penalty kick is an extremely harsh punishment. Harsher than a red card, and, in high-stakes matches, usually only reserved for intentional fouls in clear goal situations. This did not fill all those requirements. I can safely say 90% of referees out there would not have called a penalty in that situation.

However, as I said, I don’t resent it, since we were on the receiving end of such freebies before. It’s just life.

Henry dove.

problem was that Carvahlo also fouled him. THe two are not mutually exclusive. The ref should have awarded a penalty for hte foul, and yellow card for Henry making ameail of it and letting his legs (especially his left one) fall out from underneeath him before the foul even happened…the resuly being the useless in big games henry wouldnt be available for france in the finals…

it was a great game though…much more exciting than the game yesterday bar the OT. I would have loved to see them tie it up and have it gone to OT. Ricardo almost had a money assist there but there were a few times where i wish the portugese would have just tryied to get t ohte ball rather than dive as they wasted a few opportunites trying to draw the call…

lets go Italy

Usually dives, and other fakes, result in said divee writhing on the ground, clutching a random body part (hopefully the one that looked like it got hit). Henry fell and literally bounced back up.

So, why do you write the above message? What was the point you were trying to make (since you seem to be defeating your point with your own post)? Seriously, I’m wondering.

Soccer fanaticism – as any form of fanaticism – brings out the worst in people. The fact that you are not only supporting it, you are proud of it, puts you exactly in the same plane as Christian or Muslim fundamentalists.

If that’s the company you enjoy, good riddance!

I think the cultural gap does play a bit part in that lack of respect… Most people don’t respect what they do not understand.

For example, it’s actually quite fascinating to hear that most people expected the whole scandal going on in Italy to affect the Italian team. Nothing could be farther from the truth – in fact, it just gives them an incentive to focus and play even better.

FORZA ITALIA!

FORZA!!!

and yes… you say a really big truth…

and to be honest… “we” don’t like “them” too :stuck_out_tongue: cause we don’t understand them

Erm… That’s not quite the understanding I have of when a referee can award a penalty… Something to do with fouling in the area, no? [/quote]

Exactly, a penalty is awarded for a foul or handball within the area, if a foul or handball would have been given for the same incident outside of the area then it should equally be given in the area. It is about the location not severity or intention of the foul.

It will be Italy 2 - France 0. You can thank me Monday morning mate.

I wrote the message to let you know that I think you dont have shit to contribute to this soccer thread. And your reply tells me that not only I am right about that, I now know you are a fucking moron as well.

Looking at your other posts, it may be better if you stick to the political and religious subjects you post on.

And the next time you want to compare me to a muslim fundamentalist, come tell me to my face and I will give you a first hand reaction.

Just to throw in my two cents…
I am doing my best to stay out of the diving argument.

With all my teams out, I think that I will go for France (damn I hate saying that).

But does anyone else think that Barthez is a little nutty? Is he really the best France has to offer for a keeper? It seems like he has butterfingers half the time. (also he looks a little like the guy from the Hills Have Eyes)

FIFA has done their very best to ruin the game. The 2 teams that have made it through to the final have perfected the dive. I won’t be watching the final that’s for sure.

Every team in this tournament have perfected the dive, some better than others. So I guess it’s fair to say you wouldn’t be watching the finals anyway, regardless of who the final 2 teams were.

I’m not that biased not to realize Italia played better football in the extra time than Germany did.
However, their behaviour in the second half was anything but sportsmanlike.

I detest diving and cheating and I hope FIFA will ensure in the Future such things won’t happen again.
Portugal vs France was a catastrophe.
You saw two portuguese athletes drop SIMULTANOUSLY in the box to get a PK. Someone earlier in the thread suggested that Football has a pussy-stigma in rugby nations like Australia because of that, which I totally understand. It’s sad enough that modern football is played much more defensive and less risky, but diving can’t be the solution for a striker who is being paid millions.

Anyway, my hopes of teaching those diving cunts a lesson have been severly reduced. Germany has so many injured it’s damn frustrating.
No Ballack, no Mertesacker, no Friedrich, no Borowski.

The god of football can be a moody bitch, I guess.

perhaps this guy will solve all the ref problems in FIFA

Look, YOU were the one picking the fight, not me, remember?

Do you really expect to start childish attacks on spelling, or kick people while they are down and NOT get a reaction from their friends?

And why did you then switch to even lower personal attacks – without having even met me in real life? What do you think that accomplishes? Do you believe that makes you look macho?

And why do you, after all that I’ve said, continue to expect that I just walk away and not defend myself?

Finally, do you realize how ridiculous and idiotic do threats of physical violence look over the Internet? You clearly haven’t been involved in that many real fights have you?

You want physical violence? OK, then let’s do this: get on a plane, go to Lisbon, pick any random Portuguese guy and try telling him, in his face, everything you have said about Portuguese people (Nightman, the team, and me) over here. Then let us know what happened. Assuming that you’ll be able to get out of the country in one piece, of course. After that, I’ll be more than happy to pay you a visit, even if you are in a box (or several…).

Hey, I get that you are frustrated with your team’s demise, but your reaction is completely out of line and extremely pointless. Attacking others is definitely not a very constructive way of dealing with one’s misfortune or shortcomings, especially because they just might hit you back.

By the way, I never compared YOU, specifically, to a Muslim fundamentalist. What I said is that soccer fanaticism is not really different from religious fundamentalism; if you actually picked up a dictionary every now and then you’d see the word fan comes originally from the Latin fanum – temple – and basically means “marked by excessive enthusiasm and often intense uncritical devotion”.

The fact that you are doing such a great job of proving that point is not my fault…
