GO THE AUSSIES!!!

3 goals in 8 minutes was unbelievable, Tim Cahill is a superstar!

Bring on Brazil, LOL!! We’re probably going to get hammered in that game, but at least we have a chance of getting second in the group. The 3-1 scoreline will help in goal difference as well.

Croatia is the only country with 2 teams on this World Cup.
Croatia and “AUSSIES”.
(hehehehe)

@ lopar
Sad but realistic. I still hope Croatia can repeat friendly 1:1 last year, but again, I need to be realistic.
Yes, there are a lot of “aussies” who are supporting two teams during this world cup, they are going to have conflicting emotions in next weeks game!

Although when you look at the Aussie team it is not dominated by players from Croatian background. A few years ago this would have been different. Off the top of hmy head here are the surnames of the players I can think of in the squad:

Cahill
Kewell
Schwarzer (Sp?)
Viduka
Neill
Moore
Bresciano
Grella
Aloisi
Wilkshire
Kalac
Kennedy
Emerton
Sterjovski
Thompson
Skoko
Lazaridis

That’s all I can remember for now. Forgive my ignorance of all things Croatian but only Viduka, Kalac and maybe Skoko are from Croatian background. All the other players in Oz went and played for Croatia, LOL!

Croatia held Brazil to 1-0. I didn’t see the match but the reports said that Brazil was a bit sluggish and Croatia missed a lot of chances. Knowing our luck Brazil will probably fire up for the match against Australia and destroy us! Croatia seem a bit too unpredictable to know what our match against them is going to be like.

1-0 to Brazil vs. Croatia is not what I expected - but Croatia sure did give them a good fight. I hope Croatia keeps it up - they played a good game even though they lost.

I’m voting for Brazil to win the cup because they’ve always been my favourite team and I have a company sweepstake riding on it.

Woah, woah woah!! First of all, Sheva might not play. Second of all, Ukraine is not much worse (if at all) than Spain. The last 2 games (Euro qualifiers) They tied 2-2 in Kiev and 1-0 in Spain.

Ukraine is much better that they were then and Spain is a little older and slower. (Ukraine has a better coach, better players, and, finally, success). I cannot wait for tomorrow’s game!

Brazil were mediocre at best. A croatia side with Suker in would have equalised. Ronaldo was embarassing. Hope they improve.

Spain older and slower?

This is the youngest Spanish team in recent memory.

If the Spanish lose it’s not for lack of class - it’s because they are chokers.

Yeah those czechs just might beat the brazilians… man they play so good watching them is tons of fun…

maan, they were so good the americans were completely lost and powerless. they couldn’t do ANYTHING. they just stood there, helpless… I ALMOST felt sorry for the poor bastards (sorry, but America doesnt belong in the world of football). The czechs were having a jolly good time kicking their ass, and by the third goal the czech coaches were laughing their ass off.

fun game… fun game.
Please explain why America doesn’t belong in the world of soccer - if they qualified and went through all the proper channels.

So they had a bad game, a game they were expected to lose, by the way - big fucking deal.

U.S. Soccer: Overrated.

Calm the fuck down - one bad game and the US should just stop playing soccer = leave the WC and go home.

How can they be overrated if no one is even giving them a chance in this group?

Thank God REAL football starts in a couple of months.

I’ve never really watched soccer before, but I have to admit that I’m kind of getting into it now that the World Cup is rolling around.

I gotta say I’m rooting for Ecuador because half of their team is rocking the gherri curl straight out of an early-90s hip-hop video. Plus their goalie looks like he’s 12.

Brazil vs. Croatia was interesting. It reminded me a lot of the France vs. Switzerland game.

Brazil dominated the first half against the Croatia, it was obvious they were superior in almost every aspect of the game (although the Croatian goalie did very well). Croatia simply coulnd’t put enough pressure on Brazil, and it culminated in a point at the end of the first half. I loved the beginning of the second half. Croatia did exactly what they should have, and went balls to the wall against Brazil and kept pounding away at their defense, but sadly, they wore down quicker than Brazil and the game kind of pewtered out.

So it was pretty obvious Brazil was much superior, but I’m amazed it was only 1-0. This is why it was like the France vs. Switzerland game. Henry and Zidane were absolutely amazing, and the Swiss simply couldn’t control the ball half as well as the French, but somehow, despite this obvious inferiority, they ended up tying 0-0.

So all in all, we’re in for an interesting World Cup, if this keeps up. My brother is really rooting for the Ivory Coast, he said they played very well in their first game.

I’m all for France, they fucking deserve it. I’m still pissed about the Schumacher incident and Platini’s legacy in those last Cups of his life.

Heh, Ronaldo really didn’t make himself seen in that game, it was interesting hearing the crowd as he was pulled out, a mixture of boos and cheers.

Ronaldinho did play well though, not spectacular, but hey, it’s early.

Heh, both those guys will probably explode into brilliant form against Australia on Sunday, just our luck!

I did not see them as far superior. Sure, they controlled the ball most of the time, at least in the first half, but had very few chances to score.

Very solid defense by Croatia. If they were not that harmless offensively, they had a chance to win this or at least draw the game.
Ronaldo and Adriano played horribly and the defense did not look too well either.
They need to step up their game big time to defend that title!!!

I’m ashamed to admit that I began to doubt our boys at about the 80 minute mark against Japan - shoulda known that the genius of Aussie Guus and the class of Cahill would pull us through …

BRING ON BRAZIL!

Ronaldo definitely isn’t playing as well as usual, even according to Croatia.

BBC Said:

Croatia centre-back Robert Kovac says he was bewildered at the lack of threat posed by Brazil striker Ronaldo.

The holders won 1-0, but 29-year-old Ronaldo was anonymous and was substituted after 69 minutes.

“I don’t know what happened to him,” Kovac told BBC Sport. "He didn’t run and stayed in front of us. He must be tired. He hardly touched the ball.

“It was very easy. I’ve played against him before and it was very difficult. I don’t know what’s happened with him.”

Source:

Either way we’ll see how they perform this weekend.

My Polish blood is interested in tonight’s Poland v Germany game - I’m pretty sure Poland is going to get a hiding…

PORTUGAL: Because who really wants to see the Brazilians win again?

Croatia had their chances, which gives me hope that a more technically skilled team like Argentina could beat Brazil…

Frankly, who can blame Ronaldo? I won’t be the first to say he’s past his prime, he’s getting older (isn’t it a bitch when 29 is “too old?”) and he’s probably still recovering from his injury. I forgot the guy was playing until he was subbed out.

Adriano not only played mediocre, he was a complete dick with that foul against Kovac (I think it was Kovac).

Regardless, the fact that Brazil put so much resilient pressure on Croatia in the first half is a testament to their capabilities. Croatia died out after about 20 minutes of that in the second half.

Perhaps Brazil won’t perform as they did in previous years, but if they step up a bit more, which they can easily do, they’d still be one of the teams to beat, easily.

I’ll also like to note that in all this analysis, I hate Croatia. If anyone watched the 1998 World Cup, Romania was knocked out 1-0 in the Round of 16 by Croatia on two bullshit ref calls. Anyways, let the games proceed.

Nontheless, I’d like to stress that Germany is super motivated and will surely surprisea lot of guys here. We’re gonna take that title!
NO! Too many weaknesses in your defence, as evidenced in the Costa Rica match.
