Official World Cup 2006 Thread

I don’t really have the words to express myself properly at the mo.

2 teams that were better than them (England and Holland) were knocked out by a diving, cheating and snidey bunch of cunts.

I’m proud of the boys for battling the way they did, although they still don’t know how to take a fucking penalty.

Watched the Rooney replay a few times now and the nut-stamp wasn’t deliberate and he pushed Ronaldo out of the way for trying to get him booked. A ‘nothing’ gesture.

I feel sick that a team as negative as that could progress to the semi-finals.

Fuck racism. Kick cheating out of football first…

England is out and they deserve no better!
Roney is an idiot! England had no offensive game at all. How did they expect to make it to the semis of a world cup with a performance like that.

Ricardo was awesome at the pk?s.
I do not think the refs were that bad. They were actually OK during the preliminaries.
But as a Dutch supporter I would see that differently too

Sorry my friend. I feel your pain. I insituted a three day gag rule at work before I even could talk to anyone about it, for the protection of my co-workers really.

They actually started playing better a man down. They did fight and had a few chances but I still expected a lot more.

I also watched the Rooney replay and I am starting to lean more towards your argument. However, he still should have known better and never allowed his team to be put in that position.

As far as the diving etc goes, I agree completely. Even worse than the Italians this year.

Sorry to say but Lampard and Gerrard need to make a PK, period. That sub, I can understand.

what a mess for england!

its never a straight lose for england, always controversy of some sort, penalties, red cards you name it? to have such a great group of players and never make anything out of it is such a shame. imo there should have been a lot more individual flare from the england squad but i assume they were playing to a master plan that didnt work.

applause to joe cole for stepping it up over the course of the tournament. i was hoping for a lot more from england but alas it wasnt to be.

Yes Ricardo was awesome, he guessed correctly every time.

Dude, seriously, the refs this WC have been a fucking joke. The yellow and red cards in this WC have become a complete laughing stock. Clean hard tackles get a yellow? Come on man, this is soccer not a fucking balled contest.

PK’s were given for bullshit and PK’s were not given for some of the most flagrant tackles i have ever seen. This portugese cocksucker kicked Robben in the chest in the box with nubs up and thats not a PK? The Italy PK against Australia, complete bullshit etc etc etc.

Even the FIFA said that the KGB bonehead was a complete jackass during the Holland-Portugal game…well maybe not in those words

But not just the Holland game, in every game they have been questionale at best, and yes, also in the Germany games.

England do only have themselves to blame I’m afraid, or more accurately, their fuckwitt manager. I thought deep down the previous mediocre displays were just partly a semi-concious effort not to peak too soon, and partly an inability to really raise themselves against lesser opposition.

Until Rooney was sent off however they did fuck all. Again. On that showing it would have been a bit of a travesty if such a dull team went on to lift the cup.

Also, when you consider that he has brought a few players along for the ride who he clearly never intended to play, but left the likes of Defoe and Shaun Wright Philips at home??? ?5fucking million a year that dim cunt gets to make these decisions.

As for Portugal, they are possibly the most unsporting team in the tournament. I sincerely hope Ronaldo’s life is made a misery by Rooney when he gets back.

Word.
I really hope these pussies get royally thrashed in the next round.

Damn. A England-Germany final would have been a blast.

England have no excuses. All teams dive and its pedantic to start the arguement ‘they dive more than us’. The one thing England do not to is harass a referee like lots of other teams. This needs to be cut out, and is totally pathetic, partially ruining the world cup as a spectacle.

To coin a football phrase ‘at the end of the day’ - we had the lead in penalties and fucking blew it. simple as.

Disagree with a fair bit of that in the sense that all of England’s best players were on the pitch but the game was broken up every 20 secs by another dive so we couldn’t get going and build up some momentum.

Agree Defoe and/or Bent should have gone though but in terms of that one match, I’m proud of their performance.

That wink from Ronaldo (AGGGHH CUNT!!)to his teammates as he got Rooney sent off pretty much marked him and I’ll doubt he’ll be in the premiership next season.

I wish there was some better than CAPS LOCK to express my anger!

Germany, please win this tournament and do it by playing the way you’ve been playing - standing up.

PS - Before the match the ref had praised the way Portugal play the game and said ‘they play like my home team, Argentina and I admire them’. I’ve since been told by several people that after the match the ref was punching the air in celebration. Wanker.

Ronaldo’s house in Manchester tonight…

Also, can some explain how come Theo Walcott was much better than Lampard all tournament?

Sad but true… lol

True that Mick but Portugal and historically Italy do dive more often and display rediculous theatrics more often that the other teams.

First of all, I sympathize greatly with English fans for losing on PKs. Portugal is one of those teams, along with Italy, Brazil, and Argentina, that dive more often than others. This game was less of a mess than the Holland-Portugal game, and frankly, England played just as “dirty” as Portugal.

Second of all, as a non-partisan party here, I’d rather see Portugal go through. Sure, for the sake of principle, it should be England, but when you just want to see a nice game of soccer, England plain sucks. Their playing style is just ugly. Sorry, England fans. Portugal, despite their ugly theatrics, plays more beautiful, artistic soccer. Again, on principle alone, I hate Italy, Brazil, Portugal, and Argentina, but I’d rather see them play than England.

And people, Holland played just as ugly, if not uglier, than Portugal in their game. Stop saying Portugal was worse, the whole game was a midget fuckfest, ugly from start to finish, and if there’s a team to say played meaner, it’s Holland.

i think i was at work through argentinas entire run. just found out we had a tv in the building to see them lose in pks. shit.

i am of german descent, but i studied abroad in buenos aires during the last world cup and really have a soft spot for the albiceleste. hard to root against the host, though.

wish i could have seen the game.

did they have their first or second string keeper in for the pks? i didnt make note.

So you could probably tell what’s the name or text of the song the argentinian supporters are singing during the matches. I heard it trough the whole Argentina vs. Holland match.

As for Germany winning the Quarters: Phew, that was really KLOSE!
there were so many songs . . .

is it the one that starts “vamos, vamos argentinaaaa . … vamos, vamos a ganar” ? i forgot a line or two but ill ask my argentinean friends tonight.

then again, its 2006 and i coulld google it.

this is the big one, and the only one i remember.

Amen. Plus I’ll let Sven shag my sister if we win and she’s better looking than Nancy D’lolio.
Post pics!

Nancy’s not bad for an older bird. Loads of cash and probably into all sorts of naughty things.

OK, have just seen how football SHOULD be played. The French were fucking awesome, and, as I predicted exposed the current Brazilian teams medoicrity. I’ve just copped on that having backed France e/w before the tournament, so all in all today is ending up pretty nicely for me.

PS, hopefully if someone does set Ronaldo’s house alight they’ll do it tonight rather than tomorrow when I’m working…

1-0 France!!

I REALLY want to see a Germany-France final. Spank the krauts one last time for Platini.

Allez les bleus!!!
What an uninspired game by Brazil. Played as if they did not care.
So its going to be a European semi final.
Say what you want but our chances rise by the minute.
Only Italy and than either France or Portugal.
WE CAN DO IT!!!

The muskateers have been bought out of retirement. Zidane was masterful. That was great footy today.

Wrong. Portugal were better than Holland and they were better than England today.

England did absolutely nothing to break the 0-0 in that game. They finally went up against a quality opponent and were exposed. Rooney has to got to calm the fuck down and get his head in the game. He’s all ra-ra intensity and absolutely no focus. Let’s hope he learned something from this experience.

England had a brilliant defense but absolutely no creativity on the offensive side of the ball. (even at full strength). Owen Hargreaves, Lennon, Terry, Ashley Cole and Sol Campbell were excellent for England today.

I remember saying how Sven’s gambling on Rooney to bring England through was like playing with dynamite - and sure enough - his temper blew up in England’s collective face today. Shameful display- deliberate or not, he should know better at this stage in the game.

Say what you will about Portugal - they did what they had to do to win. Ricardo the keeper was enormous.

I was rooting for England to win after the valiant effort they put after Rooney got sent off - but that PK display was pathetic.

As to the diving:

Diving is a part of the game - get used to it. It may not be pretty, but it’s pretty fucking effective - and at this stage in the tournament it’s what can win you a game.

Oh yeah, if I were Cristiano Ronaldo - I would make sure to get that transfer to Real Madrid - if he comes back to Man U he may end up being the most hated man in England. Wow.

A shame England had to lose, but they did nothing to justify advancing to the semis.
