Official World Cup 2006 Thread

I agree with you guys. But I think it will be Italy and Argentina only because Argentina is a better team than Germany
Brasil and England France will not beat Brasil in my opinion.
As for the final game I would like to see Italy and Brasil ( sort of like the World Cup final when it was played on US soil–but with a different outcome)
ITALY WINNERS

Argentina play ‘better’ football but Germany’s athletisism will stifle Argentina’s time on the ball which is the foundation of their game.

I want both France AND Brazil to go out in the same match now… France because they didn’t need to cheat the other day and Brazil simply because they are not as good as everyone says and the fact that they ‘play with a smile on their face’ doesn’t make them great people, it just makes them look like simpletons and half-wits.

Plus I’ve already saved enough pics of their female fans onto my hard drive now.

England totally owe Portugal and Scolari one and the latins will have to field a B team after their own cheating antics of the other day.

Worst case would be an Italy England final. Two teams just sitting back and doing fuck-all apart from Luca Toni and Wayne Rooney.

Hey I’ll take it, but the only chance of fireworks at THAT match would be if Al Q’eada manage to sneak some rockets in.

Spain lost to France today. I’m well pissed off. Spain always does this to me, and the bloody refs don’t help one little bit.
Spain came out way, way too agressive yesterday - their back line was playing much too far forward which left them wide open for the counterattack, as demonstrated by Ribery’s goal sequence. What’s shocking is that they didn’t make that adjustment after the 1-1 - they gamble on continuining to apply the pressure, but could not find a seam in that French back line to put that second goal in the net.

Although a lot of people are using the Henry dive as an excuse - I won’t, and a lot of people in Spain aren’t either. France was the better team yesterday. Zidane and Vieira, for all the criticisms of their uninspired play in the round robin stage, stepped up their play when it mattered, big time.

Ribery, not Torres or Messi, has turned out to be the youth revelation of this WC; and simply put the Spanish could not figure out a way to break the defensive wall put in front of them by a canny, experienced French side.

I blame it on inexperience and the Spaniards’ lack of a true superstar who can take over the game when the going gets tough (like Zidane did for the French after going down 0-1).

Basically, despite the pretty soccer played by Spain in the first two matches, when push came to shove, they were simply not good enough yet to hang with the big boys of international soccer. This is a very young Spanish group and they will have their day - it just wasn’t to be yesterday.

This loss is Day 1 of the new Spanish national side.

The other thing that really killed the Spanish yesterday was not having a true hard man in the middle. Sergio Ramos is talented, but not a “hard man” and Puyol had one of his worst games in recent memory - oh how they could have used Valencia’s Albelda yesterday! He would have kept Ribery in check.
And why was Raul taken out of the game so early!?!?
Because he wasn’t doing anything, and failing miserably at his job, which was to be an “enganche”, in English, a “go-between” between the midfield line of Xavi/Xabi Alonso/Cesc and Villa and Torres on the forward wings.

Anyway his performance was pretty much par for the course for what he’s done the last two seasons with Real Madrid.

Raul, I’m sorry to say, is finished with the National squad.

Kudos to the French and the match with Brazil should be epic.

Nuff said.

I still liked the Spain vs. France game.

Being a huge French supporter, I was more aware of the Spain fakes (and they had many).

You have to learn to not get put off by the dives and fakes of all these teams. The only teams that were good about it where the newcomers.

I was really rooting for France to play with honor too, but I guess they didn’t. =/

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Says it all really…

I must say that I honestly have watched this ‘World Cup’ and do not understand why anyone cares in the least. I actually saw people celebrate a 0 to 0 tie. That is pathetic!

So, to all you soccer-dweebs, I guess all I can say is: enjoy your little kickball game. Enjoy getting all excited because you ‘won’ a tie. Just realize that, to real Americans, soccer is just bullshit-on-a-stick.

Okay, and understand that to most people on this forum you are a fucking cockrash and about as welcome as a bucket of Aids.

I am going with
Germany
Italy
France
England
Our game against Argentina will be the early final. Argentina plays the best ball in this tournament, and we play with the biggest heart!
I hope France makes it past Brazil, besides the cheating, because the Brazilians play as if they do not care at all

I think Germany will win even though Argentina is the better team. Once you get to the end stages of the Cup, it isn’t the prettiest football that wins, it’s the most EFFECTIVE.

Right now, the German squad is playing very effective football - it may not be pretty, but it gets the job done.

One also has to wonder about Argentina - that Mexican defense did a number on them and Pekerman took much too long to make the proper adjustments. I do not think the Germans will give the Argentinians the space to develop their open, flowing attack. Basically I figure they’ll employ the same strategy that the French used on the Spanish.

It’ll be up to the Argentine midfield and forwards to find a way to compensate for that - which makes for a very intriguing tactical matchup. Pekerman is definitely going to have to earn his pay tomorrow.

Should be an epic match.

If France can sustain that rejuvenated magic that beat Spain - that too could be an epic match - it could be the wake up call that Brazil needs - and if they do end up waking the sleeping giant - watch out!

Can’t wait for tomorrow!

must say mate you are a better man than me for even responding to such a fucking idiot…there are some sports that don’t interest me in the least , but i still give thumbs up to the athletes who partake…

no, you haven’t. If you have seen it, it’s only to criticize and rather than try to understand what you are watching - your utter stupidity and ignorance blinds you. Your attitude is truly the mark of a simple(ton’s) mind.

You are the equivalent of the retarded boor whose girlfriend drags them to Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” and complains that “I had to put on a monkey suit to listen to some fat guy in a mask scream his head off.”
and do not understand why anyone cares in the least.
because, as we have already established, not everyone in this world is an ignorant boob like you.
If you were actually watching the game, you would realize that they were celebrating b/c they got their point and qualified for the next round of play.

Moron.

That is pathetic!
What is pathetic is that you keep posting this inane drivel like an attention starved four year old. Aren’t you like fifty or something?

Actually I don’t know if I’m the more pathetic one here for actually responding to your bullshit.

So, like we told your partner in stupidity and homophobia, Julius Caesar, you have more than made it clear that you hate soccer - and like we told him, we’ll tell you. WE COULD CARE A FLYING FUCK.

NOW STAY THE FUCK OFF THIS THREAD ALREADY AND GO MENTAL-MASTURBATE SOMEWHERE ELSE.

A tae-kwon-do wanker calling us dweebs.

Have you ever actually used that garbage in a streetfight and not left with your testicles firmly lodged up your ass?

Just wanted an excuse to use that line…

There must be something about chasing little white balls that applies here…

LMAO!

Pack-boy,

You should be worried more about AIDS than me, after I read about what you and your friends do on those busses after 2 AM, on another thread. Do you have to hide in the back, so the driver won’t see and kick all you ‘packers’ off?

HH

ok, ignore the nob-jockey, back to the football;

I am really wanting a Germany V England final. I’m sure some South Americans may throw their hands up at this and protest that neither us nor the Germans play the beautiful game or whatever, but in terms of rivalry and passion you couldn’t get a better final. It would be a chance for the Germans to do their own 1966, and a chance for us to hammer them 5-1 again just to let them know the first time wasn’t a fluke… The beer that would get drunk that day scares me.

nob-jockey… LOL… I like that. As to the other thing. Done.

That would be fun, I must admit. My little brother loves fucking with England fans. I’m sure he’d buy a Germany shirt just for that occasion. Oh man, would he get his ass beat!!

I saw that 5-1 game with a few of my England supporter buddies on the satellite at this English-themed pub where all the local England supporters hang out. It was absolute mayhem. Fun times. I don’t recall ever drinking that much beer in my life.

But personally, I’d be content with an England - France semi. Not as much hate, but pretty close, I would imagine.

shush now and go back to your semi-contact tkd, internet hard-man.

Headhunter, holy God, how many times do you need to say you hate soccer? I said this to helga, and I’m saying it to you, SHUT UP, if you wanna say how much you hate soccer, say it once, we don’t need a dozen fucking posts about it and seven threads. We understand you don’t like soccer or anything associated with it, why do you feel the need to keep saying it?
