Official 2019 T-ransformation Announcement Thread

Those stupid charts just don’t account for people who have a significant amount of muscle mass, and medical professionals who just consider the charts and not the individual are bad at their jobs.

To be fair, though, I understand why the charts are the way they are, and I would wager that the large majority of people at 6’3" 230# actually ARE dangerously overweight… the charts are based on ‘average’, and statistically they are most often correct.

Also 6’3". I went for an MRI a couple of years ago and they had a mad panic and had to rearrange machines because I weighed more than 210lbs.

To be fair, I am pretty fat, but that’s not the point.

Up 10lbs since the start of the Transformation. Started at 176 now up to 186 with 3 lbs of which is most likely water weight.

I think the basis for those charts were military personnel in the 70s. Small frames, good at running and bodyweight movements.

BMI works for obese people but I’ve been overweight or right on the edge my entire adult life. I’m sure I was obese last year but I think we all know that isn’t true.

I think just being big is tough on the body. Look at the larger people (tall) in sports in the past. It’s just a lot of strain on the organs even if it’s a healthy weight.

I had always heard it was data collected by insurance companies to make the issuing of health insurance/rates easier based off discriminating factors.

Maybe both?

This is true even if you’re not ‘that’ big. As an example, my blood pressure numbers have gone down 10 pts on both systolic and diastolic since I’ve lost 20 lbs, 125/85-ish to 115/75-ish. I was still in a fairly healthy range, but definitely better now, to the point where I may be able to start weaning off the blood pressure meds.

Regardless of any statistical correlations, BMI is a poor health indicator. The best quick health indicator we have is simpler than BMI - waist size.

Down 9lbs in 9 weeks from no cereal and pop tarts. Had to tighten the lever belt. Now it feels like I’m slow dancing with Jesus and he has his hands around my waist, keeping me safe from back pain.

Sultry.

Took some pictures Friday for tracking. I’m down 21# from where I started, and it’s sobering to realize how much fat I actually had available to lose. I thought for sure I’d be seeing solid ab definition by now, but not so much. Still, 21# is 21#, and I have another 6 weeks to go.

Great work so far.

For the abs, you should conduct an experiment! Abs are so controversial.

Do some direct ab stuff during the home stretch of the contest and see if that makes them Pop.

That’s an interesting suggestion, I may have to take a little extra time at the end of my training sessions and try that out.

What better place than here? What better time than now?

Planking in the name of abs? I dunno man. Some of those who have six packs are the same who sell ab hacks.

Very nice!

But just so there is no confusion among the square community:

In my opinion, Planks are not a good choice to make your abs Pop.

Thanks, I am quite proud of it. And concur as well. I did planks and sit ups all during Deep Water and my abs were kinda shallow. Went back to standing ab wheel and they got deep again.

@FlatsFarmer @T3hPwnisher Rage Against The Ab Machine? The gym at work has an ab wheel, so that’ll probably be my go-to.

I am not sure if kneeling would have the same effect.

Also @OTHSteve I am now tempted to make a tribute band known as Rip Against The Machine.

“Reps for flyes?
Should just do fives.
Stare at the floor because it’s full of lies.
Can’t justify
Sets of flyes
Gallon of milk and a buncha fives
Come on!”
