Officer Rivieri

I thought he told them to stop, they didn’t hear it so he went ape shit on them.

so I guess I was wrong?

so if an officer tries to steal something, that’s alright? I’ve seen dozens of videos of rent a cops, and officers taking teenager’s stuff with no real penalty towards them.

either way, you don’t do that to my family. End story. officer rivieri would of been missing teeth, even if I ended in jail.

This woman, needs her ass kicked. Pseudo hardass power trip to the extreme.

how about your grandma?

Let me present a possible scenario.

Officer Rivieri tells this kid to stop skateboarding multiple times. We do not see that on the video, because the video either starts or is edited to start after this happens. We get a hint of it when the kid protests that he “didn’t hear” the officer. The officer attempts to talk to the kid - gruffly (but so what?) - and decides that the kid is going to continue to skateboard. I do not know whether skateboarding is prohibited by statute in the Inner Harbor.

So the officer decides he is going to take the kid’s board, rather than allow him to keep doing something he has been told not to do. The kid clutches onto the board while the officer attempts to seize it. The kid is resisting the officer, and the only reason he is on the ground is that he chose to do so.

Yes, the officer comes off like an asshole. But then, you do not know what came before this.
What in god’s name do you expect to come before this? The kid looks scared shitless. The officer looks out of control and abusive (in two videos). I seriously doubt we are missing a prequel of the following kind…

“Yo, pig. I skate where I want. You try fuck with me, I’ll shove yo tiny pig car up yo ass.” (threatening motion with skateboard)

I’m with you on this, I’ve seen too many cases of “selective” journalism (if that is even proper English) in my time.

Poor Colored and Black people in South Africa often sleep or rest on the little green “stripes” that separate lanes of differing direction.
I’ve heard it told that this has been photographed and described as “murder” or “massacre” several times

Or think about the whole “computer games/metal/whatever make people into murderers” thing. A ton of misinformation and bad journalism going on there.

Anyway, not saying that the officer was right or anything, just that we really don’t know enough about the situation.

How easy is it to make bodybuilders/powerlifters/whatever look like complete morons or whatever else the public is supposed to think about them? You have this kinda stuff going on in the fitness industry itself, even.

#Edit: Just want to make clear that I do not support the officer’s actions in any way.

Great way to ruin your life over a skateboard.

How old are you? Not very, I imagine.

By the sounds of that cocky attitude from the fucker behind the camera in this clip, I would guess that they’ve been warned before and filmed this to make the job seem like she was in the wrong.

Simple fact is we don’t know what happened before the filming, if there are any previous encounters…

These are people who have the authority to use deadly force if necessary. But with that comes discretion, and I question their ability to use discretion if you get that upset over a kid riding a skateboard. If you are that hot headed, you should not be a cop, because your temper impairs your judgment. Something you don’t want when possessing a gun.

Could you explain what you mean by the “little green stripes” bit? I’m confused.

the whole shit was on tape? not too likely. your little brother got thrown around by a grown man, and that’s ok? Even if it’s a cop you need to do what’s right once in a while.

jesus.

Or even end it. Trying to “knock out” someone with a gun is ill-advised.

It would appear that officer Rivieri was suspended once the video leaked.

I see what you are saying Zep, but assaulting a cop is a bitch of a thing to deal with and will get you some serious time in the joint. I am not disagreeing with you, but you also must consider the ramifications. If I had a son and I saw this being done to him, it would hard for me to sit back and watch it too.

Sorry, I’m not used to expressing myself in English all that much

I dunno what the right word is, they’re basically areas to the sides of the road as well as in the middle where grass has been planted, sometimes palm trees.

The not-so-well-off people seek the shadow of those palm trees (workers waiting for someone to pick them up etc, beggars…).

My host-mother in SA once told me some story that a newspaper (I believe in Namibia, not sure) had once shown a photograph of a large group of people lined up on the ground in the middle of a town.

The accompanying article described that as a massacre and whatnot, while these people actually just took their usual mid-day nap there

I’ve no verification of the truth of this, but considering what kind of complete BS the German media now writes about SA (to deter them from having the soccer worldcup there, maybe?), it wouldn’t surprise me if it were true.

True… Unfortunately, any intervention might cause serious jail-time.

Not that I want to bring up South Africa again, but what I’ve seen of the police and private security companies there (they’re ALL OVER cape town)
was beyond ridiculous.

Anyway, that kinda thing is a real no-win situation… Sucks to be in it no matter what.

Most videos like that never show the full story and those kids in the video should have gotten beat by their parents.

I wonder if LiveFromThe718 ever got his skateboard back?

You know, these forums would be terribly boring without you

Who cares what the little fucking punk did. He was a CHILD. There is no reason to lose it over shit like that. The guy is probably pissed because he has to drive an golf cart around town.

Someone has manopause.

exactly. grown men don’t need to throw around 5’5" 100 pound pre teens on skateboards.

I don’t give a rats ass if your a cop or not. You sure as hell aren’t above the law.

The kid was a little bitch. He needed a lot more than getting tackled.

I hope you’re joking…

If i knew it was on video i’d be like fuck dude whatever. If a cop talked to me like that, i’d sure as hell talk back to him. Police protect the streets, sure, but that doesn’t give them the right to go on power trips, especially on 14 yr. olds. Hope that kid got his skateboard back, that shit is expensive. 60 dollars for trucks wheels and hardware and 60 dollars for the deck, i know it took me forever to pay for my first board back when i skated.
Nope. Serious as a heart attack.

I’m betting we only saw half the video.

The kid was a bitch. He needed a beating.

I don’t care if the cop is the biggest asshole on the planet. If you are 14 years old - show some respect.

The kid showed none. He needs his ass beat. If not by his parents - then by whoever it takes.

You think knocking some teeth out of a police officers skull over him berating a skateboarder is the proper way to go about resolving the situation?

You wouldn’t attempt to intervene and ask what the problem was, or otherwise deflect the anger of Rivieri from the child onto yourself? You would simply run in swinging haymakers at an already pissed of individual who not only has a weapon, but is trained to use it?

The kid’s life was not in danger during this encounter. Escalating the situation to outright physical violence would have certainly hurt him (and you) more than it would have helped.

If you REALLY want to stick up for your brother - knowing this is being taped - step in and attempt to be the voice of reason and try to RESOLVE the situation in a way that doesn’t involve assaulting an officer. Try speaking with him in an intelligent manner in order to juxtapose his irrational anger with your level-headed reasoning - on tape.

THAT makes him look a hell of a lot worse in this situation and digs his hole a hell of a lot deeper than you running in there with your fists windmilling. The last thing you would want to do is create ANOTHER situation that could potentially be used to overshadow what transpired on the youtube video.
