This x 1 million.
People here are not very respectful. When someone disagrees, instead of trying to understand his/her point or digging for the underpinnings of the position, the conversation turns to insult and name calling. THAT’S NOT DEBATE!!!
I do regularly read here. But I would be tarred and feathered by you guys for my beliefs even though the life path I walk is far more “conservative” than most of you probably.
I actually have been following these political threads for quite some time and really have learned a lot from some of you. I can also really respect those of you who are consistent with your views even if they don’t agree with mine.
I don’t think you were around during the Iraq war… It was like the Wild West in here back then.
FWIW, I think that you and Beans have played important roles in changing things.
I concur. I don’t agree with much of what smh posts but he is usually a consumate debater and has contributed a lot to PWI. Haven’t read as much of beans posts but he seems like a solid poster too. Glad to have them here.
The praise is much appreciated, SM, and returned in kind. Though, as you say, we often disagree, I’m just as often impressed with your breadth of knowledge.

Fuck… His lol was bigger than mine… You know what’s funny though, I bet ZEB and I agree on virtually everything in real life. Except pot that is.
Well Republicans really jumped the shark lately. You’re talking about followers of a party that was up in arms because a governor dared say a kind word about the President during a huge natural disaster that hit his state. In bizzaro Republican world you can’t dare ever mention anything positive about the President lest you become some sort of enemy. Christie went from conservative hero to zero in a matter of seconds because he didn’t shank the President when he visited his state.

Wasn’t Pearl Harbor an attack on a military target? Seems like an abuse of the English language to call it a terror attack, even if the attack was unjustified.
Not really. It was a military installation, but there was a civilian population there (I believe the base has been decommissioned, but I’m not sure). We were also not at war. If we had already entered WWII then I’d agree, but it was an unprovoked attack on U.S. soil. That’s a terror attack to me.
Not everyone agrees with me I’m sure, that’s just my stance.
Not a terror attack, as it wasn’t committed by terrorists, but an act of war. Provocation is up for interpretation.
It was an act of terror. Leave it to the Marines to define these terms pogue. The Japanese government at the time was considered an extremist government and would be right along side the Il family except the Japanese had actual balls much like terrorists do (terrorists have huge sets of balls, anyone willing to literally put their life on the line for something does). The target wasn’t random, but neither were the twin towers and were taking part in a dogged style of warfare that resembles what might be defined as asymmetrical. In the end how it is defined is subjective, and I’m sure one can argue it wasn’t terror the same way they can argue David Duke was never a racist.
I wouldn’t let a jarhead define anything. Hooah!

This is not true. You got tarred and feathered because you refused to engage in honest debate. You deliberately ignored direct questions because you were not able to answer them when faced with them. We all get along great here, and trust me, we do NOT agree most of the time. That’s kind of the point. Other posters like SMH and Raj, who DO NOT share most of my political beliefs, will back me up on this.
But you have to be able to defend your points. You were not able to do this in the abortion argument we had last time I remember you dropping by here. I disagree with a few posters about just about everything, yet we are able to get pretty deep into it and still remain civil. Hell, Mak and I disagree on just about everything, but I still consider him a good friend of mine.
Please don’t come here and tar us with your broad, bigoted brush. Make no mistake. You just came to OUR forum and trashed US for supposedly being trashers. The irony doesn’t get any thicker than this.

And for the record, I find it very disrespectful of Grimlorn and Kpsnap to suggest that “liberals and moderates don’t post here.” I named three names and I could easily name a lot more liberals and moderates who are good people and with whom most of us get along.
Florelius, jnd, Fletch, maybe Neuromancer (not sure what he is, but I like the guy, haha), groo, Mufasa, kaaleppi, and my good friend ephrem.
So please, take your generalizations and bigotry elsewhere. We are doing just fine here without your divisiveness.

It’s such a bitch cop-out. Every time I hear him say that, I think of my dad telling the same dumb joke over and over and laughing at it, when it wasn’t even funny the first time.

What part of this is inaccurate? You are immediately vilified for having anything not completely negative to say about the President in the current Republican party.

I never said anything about Christine. I thought his action were fine, but I’m a lumped in to, “bizarro republican world,” because some peoples response to Christine’s time with the President. That’s where I have a problem.
You must be lazy and unemployed because I’ve seen YouTube videos of lazy unemployed democrats on the intronets so all democrats must believe in being lazy and unemployed. What’s inaccurate about that?

First off it’s not Christine unless I’m missing a joke. And it is a bizzaro Republican world when you are vilified for having anything positive to say about the President. Are you trying to argue that the right hasn’t painted almost any attempt at bipartisanship with Obama as a tremendous negative? Hell they interrupted him during the damn state of the union.
I’m not a Democrat, but thanks for asking. The problem is with party cheerleaders NOT with attempting to work with someone else.

I don’t know if i should feel great because you didn’t count me as a “liberal and moderate” or bad because you didn’t name me on your list
Anyway, i can confirm that the local conservatives and republicans are usually civil and interesting people to debate with.

Your fascination with religion does not go unnoticed. I find it quite telling that you cannot let it go even in threads that have nothing to do with it. It boarders on fanaticism, well not borders, it IS fanaticism. Why is everything about religion to you? You and tirib have a lot in common it seems.

Indeed I will. Every once in a while, there is a flare-up of serious name-calling or anger or whatever (I’m as guilty as anyone; I just called someone un-American last night haha), but that’s unavoidable in a political forum in which participants are anonymous and often highly opinionated.
The vast majority of conversation here is actually remarkably civil and good-natured. For myself, I’ve been treated with nothing but respect, I’ve come to genuinely like every poster here except for CountingBeans, and I’ve been exposed to the smartest conservative arguments I’ve ever been able to find outside of classic literature.
I kid, Beans. You’s a good dude. I’m just mad about the AFC East standings.

If it makes you feel better Rex and Bill got #1 and #2 most over rated coach. So you guys win at that.

So, your thoughts on the passage of Obamacare?
Disgusting. Even more disgusting that the right decided for our “choice” election they would run a guy who already did the exact same thing in his state. Some choice we had.
