If I said that I grew up in a mostly black neighborhood and judged black adults by how the kids treated me, you’d call me a racist and a psychopath. Of course, you do already so, what the hey…

Your opinion matters little to me, but I will answer this one because those further up the ladder of respect might actually hold the same belief.

When certain comments are stated by kids over the age of 12, it isn’t a huge leap to consider that many of these same beliefs are held by their parents. We aren’t talking about toddlers here. Kids back then (80’s and early 90’s) were more than likely more mindful than what you may remember from your own childhood decades before. Kids haven’t been that clueless and stupid for quite a while.

It also wasn’t everyone as most of the people there treated us with the same respect as everyone else. However, for me, it was enough.
If you care little for my opinion, why do you care about the opinions of 14 year olds from long ago in south Texas? Are you letting those experiences jade your outlook…maybe a little?

This is funny. You just had someone of mixed racial background just log on in this thread and confirm what we have written, but your response is STILL to act as if we don’t know what we are talking about.

I am not sure there is a word for this.

Denial?

Ignorance?

Ingorance of what?

The word was “ignorance”, and if you have to ask, you have a severe case of it.
I think the irony of someone not knowing about ignorance is rather funny.

That is just great. Now we have white guys using the “uncle tom” excuses just like old school blacks? WTF!

So let me get this straight, you, as a white guy, are saying that Obama isn’t black enough?

That whole line of thinking is ass backwards for blacks to say and it’s just retarded for whites to say. Blacks do not have to meet a certain level or resistance in life to be able to claim they are black. Just like whites do not all have it easy with no resistance.

These are racial stereotypes you are repeating that are bullshit coming from any race.

Had you read my posts in their entirety, you’d know the above is completely false - as I noted to Deuce2, it’s not my standard I am using. I have no standard to measure Obama versus the Black Experience, and I couldn’t care less about such racial thresholds.

My point was to point out that those who employ such a standard to disqualify critics who don’t have enough “Black Experience” should likely disqualify Obama for the same reasons, even though his skin happens not to be white. They don’t, of course, and that is what I was exploring: Obama has lived a life of privilege that belies all the qualifications of growing up with the obstacles of oppression - i.e., real harm, not perceived slights or the hurting of feelings only - and yet he is skipped over.

An intelligent discussion can be had on why this is, assuming you can get past the reactionary calls of bad faith - which you are guilty of in your post above.

I have no idea if Obama is “black enough”, nor do I care - such a manufactured threshold is holding us back in this Great Discussion on Race to begin with. It’s not my rule, but highlighting where this rule is being applied inconsistently could be a good discussion - well, could be.
I apologize if I misunderstood that you were not in agreement with the “not black enough” concept. But, it seems odd to me that you would use a bogus threshold to being black as an example of inconsistency in the black community?

We all know that Obama is likely to get little “uncle Tom” criticism because most are just happy he is black, or looks black. But, I think that is good. If we can get aware from those bogus titles and stop using that as a comparison we will all be better off.

You’re a dumbass, but your question will allow me to get a point across. Churches, especially in the South, are very large communities. You don’t just go to church with these people. You go to summer camp with them. You go to Halloween parties with them. You go swimming in their pools with them. I literally grew up with some of those people and the experiences were not confined to a building…which is why some of you obviously have a hard time understanding why someone would stay at a church even if they didn’t agree with EVERYTHING a preacher says.

I know many of those kids like some of you know close family cousins…and the attitudes and comments I got several times are as much a part of me as your entire childhood is to you.

I know you personally may not be able to comprehend that…but then, I didn’t write this for you.

Dude, the point is that kids get most of their racial understanding from what their parents tell them. So while the adults will not openly say racists shit, their kids will.

But this works both ways. Black kids will claim they are being discriminated against for no other reason than their parents have told them that and so they bring this out whenever they are not getting their way.

So the problem is that both sides have programmed responses to race based on what their parents have told them and most of the time it is bullshit.

So if we can get a generation that does not continue the old baggage with their kids we can get past these programmed responses into the present and actually act and respond based on current facts, not shit from the past.

You’re letting others, esp uneducated 14 year olds, decide who you are and what you believe. This is called Social Metaphysics. Are you going to let the opinions of children, whom you allege are spokespersons for their parents, dominate your psyche?

And if you judge the parents by what their children say, can we judge Obama by what people near and dear to him say?

Don’t get me wrong, Prof. I know you have a low opinion of me, but I actually have a high opinion of you. You are a success in a system which is designed against you. Seriously, that took a lot of courage and hard work. Its too bad that the system designed to harm black people got perpetuated by many black peoples’ desire for hate.

Those who use such thresholds to attempt to disqualify their critics - call them “thresholders” - I was using their own thresholds against them to demonstrate the folly of having such a vague threshold in the first place.

It’s pulled out too often and too easily to deflect real criticism the “thresholders” would rather not have to do address.

I agree. No one should vote for Obama or against him on the basis of his skin color. People should vote on all the “meritorious” reasons. If the Civil Rights Movement was supposed to teach us anything, it was that color wasn’t supposed to matter in the measure of a man.

Thank gawd I’m white!
Professor X wrote:
You’re right about one thing…you are very confused. There is Black History Month because without it, most would attempt to erase our contributions from the history books. “Our” in this case refers to Americans who have an ancestry that includes Africans brought to this country as slaves OR those who have dealt historically with the massive amount of racism directed at those with darker skin and facial features that resemble those of African descent.

None of that erases the fact that claiming Obama isn’t black is like saying the same about most of us…since most of us are mixed to some degree. If he isn’t black, then neither are the rest of us unless our ancestry ONLY involves African descent.

Obama is Black AND White. If this causes a huge issue for you, the only one to blame is yourself. Acting as if he should avoid embracing the Black culture in this country is about as retarded a concept as this thread.
Professor X, who calls you Black? I know the NAACP calls you Black. Minister Wright calls you Black. Louis Farrakhan calls you Black. Hell African Americans call each other Black. You also mentioned Being brought here as Slaves. Weren’t you (as you referred to yourself) sold as Slaves from other African Tribal Kings, (If we are to be Solid as you seem to be trying to be), to the French, Spain , and English? Which Country ENDED Slavery Professor X? Which country gives African’s or for that matter the most equality?
As for Black History Month, were else is that observed? No where just like Kwanza. Don’t be little Americans, White, Yellow, Red, Brown, or Black just because we see O’bama for what he is.

Let me ask you this. Is a Racist someone who speaks for hurting others or putting others down because of Color? Is a Racist some one who goes to meetings where the lead speaker put’s a race down because of Color?
Where is that happening the most in this country. The NAACP puts down Whites and Latinos. Louis Farrakhan calls whites an evil experiment. We all here weekly what Minister Wright has to say . . . and doesn’t O’bama follow all three?
If you what to stop the hatred start by looking in your Mirror.
By the way my Family was enslaved by the Cusacks, the English, and the Nazi’s ( the Nazi’s killed all but my Grandfather that escaped to America) but you don’t see me looking back with hatred I look forward for my family that has yet to come.

Hey X, you have said countless times in your threads that “we” call you black. I wanted to enlighten all to your stupidity and your close minded racist attitude.

I grew up in a mostly Black neighborhood. I was jumped almost daily (always by more then one black person)until I was fourteen, started lifting and boxing. I beat the shit out of the last three kids that jumped me, and then it was rarely that I had issue. I went in the Marines and when I was getting out I took the Police exam scoring 100% without counting Vet preference but they excepted Blacks with scores of 60 because of affirmative action. Same with the firefighters exam’s. I’m not crying about my past like you. A Dentist that gave up on God because of a few pig headed people. You let the few win by becoming just like them, pig headed. If you think you are not then read your own threads.

I hope you don’t have children or at least don’t raise them with your hatred.

You call me Racist I’ll bet I have more friends of different backgrounds then you have White friends. 'nough said

Gave up on God? I changed churches and started going to the Wheeler St Baptist Church in Houston, TX. Where did I write that I gave up on God?

Assumption much?

Hatred? Where is the hatred expressed? Because I didn’t want to be around racist people I grew up with anymore? That is hatred?

The fact that a few idiots agreed with you is even more funny.

Oh, I also went to All faith’s Chapel regularly all of the way through college when I was away from Houston during the time frame we are discussing. It is amazing the conclusions people jump to when NOTHING like that was written anywhere.

I swear the comprehension level here is sorely lacking.
