LOL,I could be wrong…but I know around Lewiston/Auburn there were FEW black people…most of them Caribbean or African immigrants…and thats from a .8% population of black people in entire state.

Why do people(ahem white people) act like Bill Cosby is the first to say what he has said?? He’s probably the first to say it in the media…and because he’s a celebrity. But its nothing that I didn’t hear growing up. He has some good points…directed at who it applies to,but in the end he’s doing nothing more than griping with no solutions. The same as everyone else.

Cosby sees 80% of black kids living in single parent households and speaks up. He sees less than 25% of black kids graduate from high school in Detroit and speaks up. He never purports to speak to or for all black people, just to the irresponsible idiotic ones. That makes him unpopular with idiots…just like I’m unpopular with you and the Prof…lol.

I know this is off topic, but did you ever feel limited by language? For ex, a typical white redneck like me would say, “He will be here.” while my black students would say, “He be here.” to mean the same thing. I’m interested in how lack of tense in ethnic English holds back minority students. This is not some sort of trick or flame, btw. I’m genuinely curious (or ‘I be curious.’ ;D ).

I got lost in Compton once, at about 1 AM. It was really quiet, I thought I was still in Norwalk, which is a really dangerous area to be in late at night.

What solutions would you offer? You can’t make others unlazy and keep them from having children and on and on. The responsibility lies with the individual. I don’t think its called griping, its called common sense and responsibility. He’s not responsible for the choices other make.

I don’t believe that to be true. Social up bringing is a large part of a persons belief’s. If they see and hear that there is not chance for them then they begin to believe it. If their Church teaches hatred wheither black or white they believe it. When I was growing up in “Boston” MA (just for the record) the black churches and the NAACP meetings taught a hatred of the “White Opressors” and the KKK tried to spread their Hate speach into the inner cities.
