Oatmeal: BBing Staple or Not?

Anyone else add cinnamon and nutmeg? Tastes like apple pie  maybe some yellow raisins (the purple are too dry for my taste)

I always add cinnamon. haven’t done nutmeg yet, but I bet it’s delicious.

I haven’t read one reply or even what you wrote but the answer to your headline is oatmeal is the shit.

Personally oatmeal doesn’t cause problems. I think it works for most people.

I’m confused though. Are you asking for anecdotal data or science about if it’s good for health. Statments like “I feel leaner the next day” are just plain stupid, so take those with a grain of salt (and your oatmeal too - if you like that sort of thing).

1 cup oats + 2 scoops vanilla MD + cinnamon = Crazy delicious.

Oatmeal is great, just watch the potential for tooth decay, and brush your teeth after eating it.

Off topic and search turned up nothing, but what do you guys think of rye bread?

Does the Pope shit in the woods? Of course it is! IMO Its right up there with boneless skinless chicken breasts. Second to the yam in my book

Think it’s junk, but I don’t eat a lot of grains (besides occasional oats). never like bread that much for some reason. It just doesn’t sit well with me. I think I have a very very mild wheat insensitivity though. GI of Rye? google it ==> LMGTFY - Let Me Google That For You

GI Rye Bread = 58(rating = medium)

Oatmeal scores a GI of 49

That sounds like a sticky mess (that’s what she said) :stuck_out_tongue:

Oatmeal is a tried and true superfood. I’ll throw in a few of my favorites for the hell of it

1c oatmeal
.5c sliced strawberries
2 heaping t. of vanilla yogurt
splenda to taste
splash of milk and cinnamon… holy shit good, even in summer when oatmeal seems a little heavy sometimes

1c oatmeal
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
1 small chopped apple (I like gala)
splenda to taste
.5c milk
I like to boil the apple for a minute before the oats go in, it’s good with the yogurt and milk like the strawberry one too. I ate this every morning during football season.

Not trying to turn it into a recipe thread, but…

Its awful, gooey and downright impossible to swallow when its cooked but I love it raw with milk, stevia, cinnamon and a protein shake on the side.

Have it 2-3 times a day these days where I’m trying to add some muscle to this lanky frame of mine.

Short answer to your headline is yes. I make mine (Quaker old-fashion)in the microwave ever morning with as little water as possible and then add a cup of pasteurized egg whites.

That’s what she said :stuck_out_tongue:

I wonder if Dorian Yates regrets not consulting Poliquin for his pre-contest prep which used oatmeal for 14 years.

By the way, although I do like Thib’s work a lot, Poliquin and he are not dietary gods. Lonnie Lowery, a dietetics colleague of mine, eats oatmeal. RDs - you know, people who have formal academic training and education in nutrition like myself - have no problem with oatmeal.

Yeah, yeah. We all know that Chris Shugart has referred to us as babbling morons. That’s funny, considering he’s recently been using a lot of our peer-reviewed work for referencing in his articles.

Us moronic RDs.

Can anyone add scientific data or research to this post…

Opinions and recipes are great but I’d like some facts separate from opinion.

yes I can, I just have to get Johnny Bowden’s book from my dorm room in a day. He has tons of scientific facts in there.

Oatmeal is great!! Lately I’ve been doing like 1 1/2 to 2 cups oatmeal + cup of fresh sliced strawberries + 1/2 cup blueberries + shitload of honey drizzled on top.

I’ll either eat some eggs with it or add some chocolate whey protein to the oatmeal. Yet it takes me ages sometimes to eat it all. Damn fiber.

I don’t get these threads.

Oatmeal is a food – put it in your mouth and if you like it, keep eating it. It’s shown to lower cholesterol. It’s low glycemic and high in fiber.

Better than burger king.

If you’re bulking, great way to get carbs.

If you’re cutting, probably not as good as veggies.

It’s not fucking rat poison…and its better than 99% of the other crap you would get in that same aisle, and 95% better than everything else in the supermarket.

Like…really…its like the milk threads.

IT’S FUCKING MILK. IT’S OATMEAL. They’re healthy foods, why in God’s name are you guys even debating this? Aren’t there more controversial compounds, like NO2, or steroids…that you guys should be ACTUALLY wondering if they’re good to ingest?

I just…ugh…bashes head against wall

Oatmeal is my favorite pre workout food. I eat about a cup ~2 hours before I lift and I have plenty of energy for my 5x5s. Yes, it is a staple.
