NSCA-CPT?

I am currently looking to become a certified personal trainer and I noticed that the NSCA has a personal trainer certification available. I know that the CSCS is a very highly regarded certification so I was wondering if their CPT would also be highly regarded in the fitness industry. I was looking at that one or the NASM. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi c5eric,

Yes, the NSCA is very well recognized nation wide. I know some people who are CPT’s under the NSCA. From what I understand it’s a fairly difficult test, so be prepared.

Unfortunately, at least from my experience, many of the big Fitness Industry organizations are pretty behind the times when it comes to training methodologies, and information. But, I also realize that one kind of has to get certified if they want to be a trainer at a gym. So, just make sure you study their literature and answer the questions the way they want you to answer them.

Hope that helps, and good luck.

Thanks for your help sentoguy. I really just want the certification for credibility and if I learn some new things out of it thats cool too. I am not a big fan of most personal trainers like most people on this site. I see them do and say some of the stupidest things at the gym sometimes.
