Notes: I went to train at maraudermeat’s private gym that happens to be about 5 minutes from my house, so I’ll go back from time-to-time - particularly on heavy squat and bench days. Anyhow, despite the fact that I had to use a thinner bar than my Texas Squat bar, my squats felt really good today and probably could have handled 405 for 2-3 more reps. There was no air conditioning in there so when I was working the deficit pulls I thought I was going to die, lol. The pause squats were pretty easy and I wrapped everything up with a wee bit of ab work. Since I didn’t bring my laptop with me, no video: sorry.

Notes: So it’s deload week. Nothing much to say really. I do have my phone consult with Josh on Saturday so we’ll be setting up the gameplan for the meet. This is probably the most eager I’ve been to hit the ground running for a training cycle in about 2 years.
Paused bench press 290x3, 310x3
Bench press (touch and go) 300x5
CG bench press 240x3, 265x3, 290x3
WG paused bench press 270x2x6
Lat pulldowns 5x12
Scap retractions 4x12
DB triceps extensions 6x6
Zottman curls 4x15

Notes: Today marked the first day of my training cycle for a meet on November 5th. Results from today weren’t too shabby, although I did have to bail on the DB flyes because they were bothering my shoulder. Nothing serious, but I don’t want to take my chances with a supplemental exercise. The DB extensions were tough yet again and my arms were on absolute fire. Good way to start off.
Notes: As easy as 405 was a couple of weeks ago, 410 was every bit as difficult. Five damn pounds. Everything just felt a little off this week. The back off sets didn’t feel too bad and the 345 pause squat was really easy. I haven’t pulled anything heavier than 375 in 3 months, but the deadlifts today felt light and bar speed was good.
On another note, F#*k you Irene for screwing up my vacation plans. We were supposed to be heading down to Nags Head, NC, this morning, but the damn hurricane just had to come through. I can only hope that the damage isn’t too bad and clean-up is quick. Fingers crossed.
Sorry to hear that Irene screwed up your vacation plans. On the other hand, I guess it’s good that vacation plans are the only thing of yours she fucked up eh?!
That triple with 310 looked good. Really good. Impressed with the arch - I’ve always been smug about my high arch on the bench (as my actual strength isn’t really worth shouting about) so I feel I’m in a good position to pass judgement.
Thanks bro. It’s always great to train with a good group of people. I’m hopefully going to be at the beach by Monday or Tuesday, so I’ll probably not be able to make it over this week. Perhaps the following week.
Notes: I had a little trouble keeping my elbows high on the front squats today. Interestingly enough, I struggled to even get 2 reps of this weight last summer so I would say that I’ve made some definite improvement with these over the past few months. Close-grip 2-boards were pretty easy, though getting the boards to stay put was an issue yet again - one of the big downfalls of no training partner(s). I rigged myself up a weighted chin belt and it worked like a charm, much much better than the old setup.
