OK, let’s take a break here. No supreme beings, no wars, and no economy.
Let’s take a break and talk some football(although this could be just as passionate and heated argument as anything else).
Let’s start with the simple debate - Superbowl picks. I know it’s early and there are still free agents and contracts to figure out, but I love football.
And just for fun, let’s revive this never-ending debate - greatest quarterback of all time(NFL).
One last thing, has anyone ever heard of a video documentary on the single-wing offense? I think it’s called “Still Running.” I have been looking for this for years and if anyone can help out, I would appreciate it.
It doesn’t appear that New England has done anything to hurt themselves(depending what happens with Ty Law), but it’s real hard to repeat. The NFC really looks wide open…it looks to me like there are 5 or 6 teams that lead the way and it could be anyone of them…Green Bay, Philadelphia, Carolina, etc. And I’m really curious to see how Mike Vick does.
It’s so hard to compare QB’s from different eras, but I’m gonna go with Bart Starr…He played at a time when QB’s actually lead their teams and handled the play calling. He led his team to 6 championship games, won 5 including 2 Superbowls. He played in the harsh coditiond of Green Bay. And he dominated who many people consider to be one of the best as well; Johnny Unitas. He beat Unitas 10 times out of 15 head to head matches. I’m not condemning anyone else’s choices, I’m just stating the case for my choice.
Best QB: Dan Marino. Did more, without the benefit of a decent running game or a decent defense, than anyone else. Really, he didn’t even have any superstar-caliber receivers. I can only imagine the number of championships he would have had if he had been behind the center of the Cowboys when they had Irvin and Smith.
Although I am not a fan of their boring ass style of play, I think that the Pats have to be the odds on favorite.
As far as the Greatest QB of all time, I have to go with my hometown Brett Favre. He plays the game the way it is meant to be played and enjoys it for what it is.
For those who don’t think NE has done anything to hurt themselves, I think you will find the subtraction of Ted Washington to be more problematic than you imagine, unless some stud rookie can fill the hole like that and allow the linebackers to roam like they did last year. He was really an anchor in that system, much like Gilbert Brown was on those great Green Bay teams. Also, if they lost Ty Law, the secondary will be even more suspect.
However, they did seem to fix the problem with the running game with Cory Dillon.
Belichik is a defensive guy – we’ll see what he can come up with – should be interesting.
Although it’s way before my time, I’m starting to think Otto Graham is the best QB ever. I don’t know a lot about him, but he did go to the championship game every year he played, and that’s gotta count for something no matter what era you play in.
