I’m wondering how many of you in relationships find it hard to make friends with people because they bore the shit out of you. That’s definitely the case with my wife and I. Everytime we are invited to someones house it seems like the men talk about sports and the women gossip about celebrities and television. Are these the only things average people spend anytime thinking about?
We’re usually so bored we’re the first to leave and go do something else. I hate having the same inane conversations again and again with people whose IQ is the equivalent of Forrest Gumps’. There truly is nothing like a fat 35 year old woman talking about Heidi Montag as if she were Time Magazines Person of the Year.

I wouldn’t be afraid to show my feminine side, if I had one. At the moment I go hiking after work on my off days with the dog and gf, occasionally stopping to skinny dip. I’m taking up kayaking so I can plan a trip around Cape Cod next summer with a buddy (we’re going to sail, but we’re bringning the kayaks for some exploring). For my best friends bachelor party 3 years ago, I planned a weekend of deep sea hammer head shark ‘hunting’ off of Florida’s Atlantic coast. For my 30th b-day I’m going to South Africa to go in the cage in Great White Shark infested waters. Later that year I plan on going to Spain for some bullfighting. At some point in the next 5 years I want to hike the Great Appalachian Trail…All of it.
You know the thing takes 1/3rds to 3/5ths of a year to do?

I know the feeling. I have a housemate that eats ham sandwitches for every meal every day. I try not to look down on him, but i can’t help feeling that he is to boring to be counted as part of the human race.
I like to think I’m interesting. I am on a 4 month trip to New Zealand where I am using some mathematics that I helped invent to advise the government on nature reserves (I’m not sure if that sounds like a crazy lie, or something boring pretending to be interesting) admittedly the chaos meant nearly a month away from proper weights… but i am getting back to 531 this evening!
On vacation now. Drove up to the Bay Area with the family. We’re staying with some friends in San Jose. Only my second time to the Bay Area. Last time was a few years back when my employers sent me to a search engine strategy seminar there (That time around, I visited the Googleplex for the Google Dance. Incredible stuff). We just came back from visiting the Winchester Mystery House. We’re doing restaurant row tomorrow and we’re going to San Francisco on Saturday. We have a vacation trip planned to Phoenix in the summer.
Last year we drove down to Las Canadas (A water park/camping area) a few miles south of Ensenada, Mexico.
I spent about a week of vacation time last year in Japan.
Over the years I’ve vacationed in China, Taiwan, Music festivals, New York (the city and upstate), road tripped across the U.S., surf-tripped the Pacific coast, etc.
Presently, my life is boring as shit - relatively speaking. I semi-retired for a while so that I could spend more time with my kids. I sleep until noon and work less than a half hour a day doing loan shit. I get to watch barney with my youngest and get to train with my oldest…
I don’t watch TV, but I read a lot. I don’t play video games. I spend a lot of time meditating and thinking about shit now.
Every once in a while I’ll go out and chase down a gazelle when the mood strikes me. I’M BORING! LOL

x2, and I just really came to this conclusion last Friday night.
It is pretty sweet.
I’m going to raise my hand for this one as well. I wouldn’t call it boring. Boring is something negative. It’s a routine life that I love. I like getting up, knowing where I’m going and what I’m doing. My job is good. My home is middle class and great. I train a lot, watch a bit of t.v., walk, hike in the woods and do nothing earth shattering. I do it all with my guy who makes it even nicer. If you enjoy the regular fabric of your life, things are good.

What the hell is wrong with a ham sandwich every day for lunch? I do the same thing. I only have so much head space to think about things. Lunch isn’t one of them. Some day someone will figure out how much of our life is spent thinking about what to make for lunch. I’d rather spend the time reading, day dreaming or thinking about sex.

Yeah but where you work is probably not all that boring. Meant to ask you, where do you lift in Knox. I lift in Knox too at National Fitness. Just curious…tried to PM you but it wouldn’t go through.

I play airport roulette every 3 months. I head to the airport with my best friend, with a bag packed for a 3 day trip. The bag always includes a heavy jacket and a swimsuit, and then pretty much all the other normal schwag.
Both my friend and I separate and ask 3 random strangers where they would travel in the US today if they could just hop on a plane and fly. We ask the stranger to write down the choice on a piece of paper, to ensure that neither me or my friend simply pick a place.
We then get back together, look at our 6 options submitted by strangers, and pick. We buy a round trip plane ticket right there and go. I will admit that a couple of times we had to re-pick from the submissions due to price or the time until a flight was available, but other than that it is one of the things that I look forward to the most.
*It’s an awesome experience, try it. The only downside is sometimes we get the thorough shake down from security, simply because we buy the tickets the same day as our travel, but that is a pretty minor hitch and is something that I am fine with.
lol yes, thank God my job can double as my social life.
I lift at the UT rec center, kinda sucks, but a summer membership was only $35 so w/e. Where is there a National fitness anyways?
I’m boring as shit, all I do is eat/train/sleep and go to the cinema when I’m feeling frisky. Shit, sometimes I might even play mini-golf!
But yeah, even my posts have that monotone feel to them, probably 1 in 5 of my posts actually see a reply from someone. I must of killed about two dozen threads as well.
It’s a good thing I have a girlfriend/gym or I would of killed myself a long time ago, haha…

It’s a great way to go on a vacation, because it forces you to make the most of wherever we go and to explore and reach out to the locals for information and recommendations (because we haven’t had any time to plan anything out). Fortunately we’ve never run into much of a problem with hotels and other scheduling, I think mostly due in part to having our computers and access to the internet. I’m also young enough where I don’t have kids or anything to worry about which it makes it much easier.
I’d recommend that everybody partner up with their best friend, girl/boyfriend, or significant other and try it at least once, it’s pretty exhilarating.
