Noisy Neighbors, Rip em or Ignore them?

The problem is you. Get over it. And like someone said upthere, if I had a neighbor who constantly called the rental office on me, I’d go out of my way to find ways to fuck with him.

Apartments are noisy. If you don’t like it, move. [/quote]

Last Summer my neighbour, a young girl, had these super loud parties until very late. I guess it’s my issue I couldn’t sleep and I had to go work next morning. I should “get over it” and if I complain, she should actually try to be louder and even more annoying.

Right?

If the building has rules about the noise then yes do something but the op was talking about walking around during the day not loud music at night, that’s different.

Angry Chicken was speaking in general. “Noise is part of the bargain”.
What I specifically disliked of his post was the part of being even more annoying if the neighbour complains about.
A very mature and civilized approach.

seriously, we must have had at least 5 or 6 noise complaints at our last apartment. But we also have a 4 year old little girl running around so there’s only so much you can do. “Stop being a kid and having energy or the old lady below us will complain!!” Just doesn’t work.

No, I was ACTUALLY referring to everyday noise like walking. If your neighbor is throwing a party on a weeknight at 3 AM then I agree it is appropriate to tell them to STFU. OR JOIN THE PARTY.

As for the part you disliked, I don’t give a fuck. I never claimed to be “civilized and mature” LOL. I am an asshole. I always have been. If you fuck with the bull you WILL get the horns. That’s how I roll. ESPECIALLY if it’s stupid shit like “walking” or “talking too loud”. I’m not going to tip-toe or whisper in my apartment (if I had an apartment). But if I threw a party and it got too loud then I wouldn’t hold it against anyone for calling. Shit by my definition, it’s a pretty lame party if the cops AREN’T called.

English isn’t your first language, so when an English speaker chimes in and let’s you know what an other English speaker is implying, how about keeping an open mind? It’s all about the CONTEXT. Got it? I generally like you and think you’re a pretty intelligent guy, but you don’t need to get your panties in a bunch about something like this. I assure you that MANY people share my attitude.

It is a very basic strategem. Person A lives on the first floor. Person C lives on the third floor. Person B moves in between them.

Up until that point everything was fine. Then person B has a complaint about some mundane disturbance by person C, maybe a couple of them.

Now the superintendent has to deal with a problem that had previously never existed, and person C is essentially being indirectly harassed by person B, via the superintendent.

Person C has been made to look like the ass, when in fact it is person B who is the ass. So person C has to find something simple and innocuous to generate more complaint. Before long, person B looks like a lunatic, and when it is time to renew the lease, they will be denied, because before they arrived, there were no problems. Now, tons of problems.

Person B has to move, and take problems with them, and the little community can return to harmony, hopefully next time with a tenant who is better suited to sharing communal space.

Then everybody is happy. It really isn’t that bad. My first official job was working on the maintainance crew in a big complex. People actually do way worse, like shitting in someones washing machine mid cycle or grudge fucking another persons spouse. There was one tenant who didn’t like cats in an apartment complex that clearly allowed cats. So he put out a dish of anti-freeze in an attempt to rid “his” section of the complex of his problem.

Thats when it really gets out of hand.

I misunderstood then. It’s just that some (most) people do things in, in my opinion, a very silly way when the easiest thing would be just open communication. Now, not everyone is up to this…and I know that for experience.

Said this, one day I was at a friend’s place until late, not being too noisy, and the neighbour below came up with a hunting rifle. Talk about being civilized…

Wait…So what you’re saying is that you want the op to act like an adult and talk to other adults about a problem and then even (gasp) maybe even try to solve the problem with said people without getting authorities involved?

HHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHAAHA dude it’s 2011 with the way social media and regular media teaches people to interact these days I’m suprised this kid hasn’t called 911 on them yet.

and here I thought this topic didn’t post…

as for the quiet hours, it’s clearly stated in the lease. everyone has to sign it. so yes, them moving furniture past 10pm is just as bad as using the treadmill at 6am. they were stomping around on Friday night around midnight no doubt getting ready for Hurricane Irene…

I’ve made a habit of tiptoeing around the house. my mom used to work nights and she struggled with daytime sleep for years so I tiptoe when I’m barefoot in a house without even thinking about it. that plus I love being a sneaky ninja.

as for being a rat, this is my first apt so I’ve asked many others their opinion (parents etc) and the majority suggested not to bother with direct confrontation. this is because what starts out as a polite discussion could easily degenerate into a heated argument, then becomes a “he said, she said” situation and I’d be fucked. however, since I’ve already ratted on them twice I guess I’ll just have to put up with it, or retaliate innocuously. I haven’t quite figured out how to mount my subs to the ceiling though…

Sounds more convincing than that “I’m a genuinely kind person” tosh you were spouting the other day on SAMA. Trying to be all things to all people must get hard to keep track of, huh?

I forgot that the weekly “fuck angry chicken” meeting was rescheduled - do you feel better now?

I’m glad you have so much going on in your life that you don’t feel compelled to insert your useless bullshit after EVERY post I make.

Thanks again for the rock solid contribution that makes T-Mag the great place we all know and love.

Fucking douchebag.

Get 2 broomsticks. “Walk” them across your ceiling when the upstairs tenants are sleeping. They’ll wake up terrified that someone is walking around their apartment.’

I recommend ear plugs(the wax ones). They have an expression “good fences make good neighbors”, I think in apts it should be “good ear plugs make good neighbors”.

This should cancel out the walking around, and yes the walking around complaint would probably be too much.

Or you could get a cute girlfriend with big boobs, and let her go up and sweetly ask them to be quiet. I find boobs help with all neighbor confrontations.

These are the best ear plugs. I work nights so they are essential for sleeping during the day.
