I moved into a condo about 3 months ago around a semi rough area. Its right by a hospital and not too bad, could be worse but there are homeless often in the ally where I have to park and wondering around. tonight there were three black homeless guys sitting in front of my condo that I had to pass to open my door, I just kinda nodded and went in my house.
What is the appropriate way to deal with this? I get home rather late and dont want to be jumped at my front door.
do I say something to them?
give them some change if the ask for it?
tell them to get the fuck out of here or call the cops?
Maybe treat them like any other human being? If you want to get to know them, do so. If not, ignore them just like anybody else you come across. If you live in a rough area, walking around at night will dangerous no matter what, so you may want to think about carrying around mace or a taser.

no, just black homeless in front of my door. black people and poor people combined to commit 85% of crimes last year. I go with the statistics.

This. Talk to them.
Once, I was backing out of a parking spot and felt a bump. Another woman was backing out at the same time and we hit each other. Out of nowhere I hear , “Chris, Chris, Chris… I saw it all! She hit you!”
Turns out it was one of our local homeless guys who I was friendly with and had just bought dinner for a few weeks earlier. Honestly, have no idea who was at fault, but her insurance paid.

When it comes to homeless, I never give money, but I do acknowledge them and give them food (leftovers from a restaurant usually, occasionally pay for a real meal).

Same here. There is no reason not to treat homeless people with the same respect we give to others. I don’t run into homeless people often, but I do give them food when I do run into them, and I donate to local shelters and soup kitchens and such. I know what it is like to starve, and no one should have to go through that.
What do you mean in front of your condo? Like sitting on your steps? If I came across homeless people sitting on my steps I’d kindly tell them they have to leave. I wouldn’t want them sitting there.

I’d posture up a bit, walk a lil bit aggressive and stare at them with a violent look so they know if they want to start shit you gonna come hard, project an aura of violence
but don’t say anything and besides that just ignore them
try to get a mental description of them so if a crime is committed you can tell the po po a solid description
If they try to intimidate you or do anything your gonna have to fuck them up or move house
if they are in the same spot, you could mask up and get a few mates with bats and rush em, ruff em up tell em to get the fuck out of here
got to remember though they got a lot less to loss than you

Yeah, I think it’s a good method to keep them out of trouble or at least discourage them from being aggressive.
This one homeless guy, when I was a teenager, I saw him once, gave him some change, then I saw him again, same thing. The 3rd time I saw him, I don’t think he had the heart to ask me again, I don’t know why.
