I realize you can’t argue with Berardi’s P+C and P+F meal breakdown rules, as they do produce results, but I’ve been reading a lot about food combining and proper digestion. Specifically, most of the resources I’ve read state that you should never combine a concentrated protein with a concentrated carbohydrate. That is, you should try to avoid or never eat any meats, eggs, cheese or other protein foods with bread, cereals, or potatoes.
Any thoughts on this type of mentality? It seems to make sense that different foods require different enzymes so combining many different types of food isnt very good for you.
I’ve also read that you shouldn’t combine two types of proteins so like nuts and meat or meat and cheese.
If there is any truth to this, what kind of diet can you ahve where you gain weight, provide the appropriate amount of protein and carbohydrates for your muscles, while maintaining helathy digestion habits
no there is no scientific basis to this, its just more hippies trying to prostilize horrible “feng shway” beliefs about how you shouldnt mix “concentrated things because you will have inner discourse of the mind and body”, and all that stupid shit.
Enzymes can be mixed, theres no problem with that.
Ofcourse put a general protease next to a say , a maltase, and it may break it down, oh well its not like the bodies perfect, haha. But that still doesnt support that hippie theory.
I’m actually really picky about my food combining. I’ve read the same things, and I know that combining carbs with protein makes me pretty sleepy most of the time, so I figure that couldn’t be helping me in any way. What I do is general eat one type of meat at each meal. And then have some spinach or something else.
Like for breakfast I’ll have eggs with some basil leaves in them for seasoning (which tastes really good by the way). And then about two hour later I’ll have some steak or chicken or shrimp, something along those lines, with some spinach. Only occasionally do I ever mix my proteins. Helps to keep u pretty lean, thats what I’ve noticed while trying to bulk.
