No Promises This Time

I have to ask out of pure ignorance about your new lake. I have read/ seen shows that there cobras in the Philippines but are there other creepy, venomous snakes there that would call those rocks home? Here, rocks like that would be infested with all manner of critters.

The Philippine archipelago is about 1,150 miles from the northen most point to the southern. Of the 7000+ islands 1100 are inhabited. We live in the large northern island and are pretty lucky. Almost all the poisonous, bad land criiters are more to the south. Everyone her walks though the jungle in flip-flops. Not even a poisonous spider. Very big bats though but they don’t bother you. The waters are a different story. Several kinds of sea snakes, corral snakes, and jelly fish. Several nasty sharks. Truth is I feel a lot safer criter wise there than here with our collection of venemous snakes and spiders. PS: Had to edit North to south on where the bad critters lurked.

Thanks for explaining all that, I was just curious. For some reason the words jungle and flips flops just don’t go together in my mind.

After a mere 31 years the men’s shot Put world record was busted yesterday by Ryan Crouser. He threw and amazing 23.37m/76’ 8 1/4" beating the old 23.12m/75’10" wr. Records in the throws world haven’t changed in years. Men’s discus and hammer were set in 1986 by an East German and Russian and the women’s shot, discus and javelin were all set in 88 and 87 by East Germans. Disclaimer: The following is not an opinion on the use of PEDs just a statement of cause and effect. Beginning in 1990 the huge crack down on PEDs lowered the distances being thrown in competitons. The previous WR holder in the shot was banned for life. Every meet was tested. The fall of East Germany and the USSR in 90/91 ended the huge Communist supported sports/propaganda machine and the incredible athletes it produced. Hopefully there is light at the end of the tunnels and we’ll see some new records across the board.

Ah the shame of it all. I had leg day planned, really I did. Just forgot it was a leg day when I got to the gym.

Doesn’t look like there are going to be any. All the normal yearly meets have been canceled. I’m suppose to head back to the Philippines beginning of August so looks like no comps. Going on 2 years now without one. Might have to take up Pickleball or Shuffleboard.

Beautiful day out. Started with 2 hours dojo time. Afterwards, took the wife for a ā€œquick run to COSTCOā€ which somehow took 4 stops of the ā€œAs long as were outā€ variety. The good thing is the COSTCO Food court’s open again. Foot long Polish sausages for $1.50! Ate 2 with mustard, relish, and so many onions the wife said, ā€œYou’re not kissing meā€. Finished off the 3/4 of her’s the wife didn’t eat. Was thinking about another one when she drug me out. Afternoon did a nice, easy 2 mile street run. Good day.

Is professional storyteller a profession?

We’ve got an elderly gentleman comes to the gym about 3 times a week. Around 85 or so. Very respected. Retired lawyer, past city DA, several other positions. He and several others meet at the library every other week and take turns ā€œstorytellingā€. Sometimes it’s humor, sometimes history, sometimes tall tales. Been several times. Surprised how many young people they still get who come to listen.

And the tradition continues. A nephew brought his youngest son, one of my many great nephews, 12 years old, to the gym for the first time. Since half the gym was related to him in one way or another he got a lot of teasing but wasn’t to intimidated. His Pere showed him how to bench, OHP press, squat, and of course some curls for the girls.
My totally scientifically formulated diet for lunch consisted of Salmon Sushi from sister-in-law number 4, Cabbage Kimchi and Yaki Mandu from sister-in law number 5, and the wife’s shrimp fried rice. Used so much Wasabi (or a reasonable facsimile of) my nose was running all through the meal.
Saturday night so sippin the Jameson’s, smokin a Arturo Fuente 858 Maduro and watching the Erth vs the Flying Saucers. Life is good.

I smoked a good Arturo Fuente last week with some buddies. Perdomo is my go to cigar brand. I’m always in the mood for Jameson. Well done.

Hot weather, hasn’t rained in a few days, so hit the river early. To be on the safe side I broke the swim into 4 X 500m. 250m out and 250m back the back being against the current.

Don’t know if anuone else is following the US Olympic Trials but in the Athletics/Track & Field the records are just getting busted left a right. Two WRs, bunch of US records and a slew of Olympic Trial records. Of special interest. Justin Gatlin, 39 YEARS OLD, won the gold in 100m in the 2004 Olympics, just qualified for the second slot in the 100m.
