No Love For the Peanut

Just going to make this short and simple.

It seems though all mixed nuts are glorified but the peanut. In most articles read, it always has some kind of a disclaimer to avoid, for whatever reason.

However

Raw peanuts have actually a really good fatty acid breakdown compared to most nuts. They have much more polyunsaturates then almonds, pecans, macadamias… etc.

I think the one thing to be leary about is that most peanuts are dry coated in some maltodex filler shit or cooked in soybean oil. But truth be told, raw peanuts seem to be one of the healthiest options, not one of the worst.

How are they superior to raw almonds ? don’t you want to minimize your omega 6 intake from fatty foods

True, peanuts contain lots of polyunsaturated fats. But they are mostly Omega 6. A healthy Omega 3 to Omega 6 ratio is what most are shooting for.

That said, peanuts taste good. Peanut butter tastes amazing. Lots of calories. My bulking wouldn’t be the same without it. What do I do about the low amount of Omega 3’s in peanut butter? Supplement with Omega 3.

Peanuts don’t contain very much polyunsaturated fat…theyre mostly monounsaturated, look at the nutritional label.

I think the thing with peanuts is because of aflatoxins which accumulate in the liver.

everything is bad for you cept grass. I’ll keep eating my PB thanks.

For comparitive purposes:

Peanut

16.9% SAT

46.2% MONO

32.0% POLYUNSAT

Almond

8.2% SAT

69.9% MONO

17.4% POLY

Note that Omega 6’s found in almonds is easily found in most red meat, which we all probably eat liberally.

Most authors probably shy away from advocating the use of peanuts in someone’s diet because of allergenic reasons.

Also, peanuts aren’t actually nuts; they’re legumes ;]

While I tend to snack on almonds or cashews a lot, were it not for the lowly peanut, where would we meatheads be without our natural peanut butter?!

S

Goddammit, I am addicted to peanut butter.
