It is NOT JUST for a region that has consistently been either primarily, and now substantially Spanish speaking to attempt to disempower a culture that has been there longer than those now in power.

Arizona should have Spanish as a co-official language alongside English, just like New Mexico. This bid to systemitically punish and disempower a group of people who never asked to be conquered is BULLSHIT.

Them speaking Spanish doesn’t mean you can’t speak English or have to learn Spanish. Instead it simply means respecting the culture of a people who have been there in substantial representation far longer than the Anglos have…hence the name Arizona (Arid-Zone or Dryland more vernacularly).

If the Anglos want to rob the Latinos of their rights, after they signed the treaty to take over their land…they are going to quickly learn you can’t have your cake and eat it to.

Conquered people don’t tolerate being conquered if they are not allowed to live and carry on unmolested. If you think might makes right, then don’t get all fussy when Latinos revolt and tear these Rednecks up piece by piece. They will show you what petty is, because remember demographically the future is in our court. If you treat us with disrespect, then soon enough we’ll turn the tables on you. At least they weren’t systematically annihilated and then rounded up and put on reservations.

Shit…maybe they should be?

What does this mythical idea have to do with a woman who has shown she should not run for public office because has shown to not be proficient in English ?

Also, how are their rights being robbed ? Specifically, where are you getting this ?

SB 1070 is good, which is why SCOTUS took it up, and which is why Obama shit his pants when they did.
This isn’t even about SB 1070. TBH, I was troubled by the ‘where are your papers’ aspect of it, but it is a worrisome truth that Arizona was 10% illegal immigrant at the time it was passed. I think that border integrity should be enforced because it is the law. When countries stop enforcing their laws, everything breaks down.

However, I personally agree with Bush the Younger, when he said (roughly quoted from memory) “Illegal immigration will never be stopped until we provide a legal path for these people to come and work in the USA.” The illegals are literally DYING (bodies litter the Sonora desert) just to do jobs that a welfare queen would bitterly accept. That however is not dealt with by breaking the law, that has to do with changing immigration policy in general.

The issue I am specifically referring to is the other injustices that hover around those who made prior legislation. The ‘English Spoken Here’ law that forbade the use of Spanish by public officials in 1986, and the recent Government mandated ban on Chicano history.

They are telling us, we cannot speak our language even though we have been there before they have, even though we were a majority and now have been around 1/3rd of the population since the mid 1950s.

They are telling us that despite the fact we pay goddamn taxes to this educations ystem, that our ‘culture’ and ‘history’ are banned. That our culture and our history are high treason and an eye sore to that of the conqueror.

This “English proficiency” bs is exactly a manifestation of that. If the woman is a representative of her community of Spanish speaking people, then why the hell does she need to speak English?

Shit like this was the basis of the Quebecois revolution, and is why Quebec shook Canada to the core when they were tired of taking that shit.

If you want to treat us like dogs, expect to get bitten when the tables turned.
Noone is making you speak Spanish, noone is telling you can’t teach your history, noone is telling you, you have to learn our history. However, you Anglos want to crush our history, want silence our language…and why? So you can finally totally dominate us?

Fuck that. We will fight back if you push too hard, because those who are pushed will eventually push back.

I can tell you never even read the law, just like Obama, just like Holder, when SB 1070 came out. You should try pulling this shit in other countries, NO other country is so nice to people here illegally.

Bush was pandering for your vote, and he got it. Obama did the same thing, yet he has deported more people than any other president in history, yet you still support him. That’s your choice, not mine. Bush was also wrong about legalization being the only way. If you cut off the jobs, and deport people from within the city (like Secure Communities does), they leave. Alabama has seen an almost 2% drop in their unemployment rate since they passed their law.

You are wrong about the Chicano Studies ban. It’s not supported IN PUBLIC SCHOOL, which means you can be taught in private schools, so there is no censorship involved. Why the hell are you so pissed off anyways ? Do you see ANY other culture get such privilege in schools ? Shit, everything is bilingual, you get preferential treatment for financial aid, you get in-state tuition, and you STILL fucking complain ? How many other cultures get this treatment ? NONE.

Who is trying to dominating you ? Because, to me, everyone gets hit by taxes, inflation, parking tickets, fees, traffic, gravity, wrinkles, and even a shitty episode of Jersey Shore.

If you feel that way, why aren’t you criticizing the person who questioned the proficiency thing, a fellow Latino by the way.

Remember the original topic, the woman is not proficient in English, and as an electrd official in America, I consider this a must. Sorry, call me a racist, I could fucking care less. If anything, she should be proficient in BOTH languages since they are both needed in this city.

Yes because the second Obama rolls out some pseud-Socialist lite legislation you guys aren’t talking about Paul Revere, open revolt and the Founding Fathers. ::Rolls Eyes::

I am a man. I am an American, and I am a Latino. I think nationalism is a stupid construct, but that doesn’t mean I will sit idly, while one people try to erase the culture I was born in from the pages of history. You make me into a strawman without a solid foundation.

Apparently you didn’t even read my post because the first damn thing I said was that while I was disturbed with the idea of the ‘where are your papers’ aspec tof SB1070. I really found no reason to have issue with a state enforcing border security where the federal government has failed. I specifically stated that that oppossing current immigration arrangements is not done by breaking the law but instead fighting the policies with new legislation.

Way to stereotype me into a convenient strawman. I am not for illegal immigration. I was ardently anti-Bush, and am ardently anti-Obama. I gave Bush credit for one thing he said, which does make sense. You can’t fight the free market, and you can’t fight the invisble hand. People are dying to work here and do the worst jobs literally. While retention rates for shitty low pay manual labor jobs among citizens are abysmal.

Further the effects on Alabam’s economy have not been positive at all. The agricultural industry has taken a brutal beating due to the new laws. Production is down across the board because despite Alabama’s abysmal unemployment rate Ã??Ã?¢?? people just don’t want to do that work.

The farmers are now lobbying that the prisons give them chain-gangs to try to make up for the lost labor force in the fields and in landscaping. Sounds like a yet another great new aspect for the prison-industrial complex to monopolize on. :rolls eyes: Of course these people won’t be paid anything.

You’re first two sentences don’t have any subject-verb agreement whatsoever, but I was able to decipher what you were trying to say.

Actually just about every other culture gets this so-called ‘privilege’ you speak of. It’s called a ‘right’, it’s the whole point of a local school board. These boards get to to decide the curriculum for their community aside from the prescribed state and federal subjects.
I grew up in Missouri and attended a school for a year and a half that was in an area with a alrge Hasidic Jewish populatin. Our Public School taught Hebrew classes and Jewish studies.

Almost any school near a population center of note, has African-American studies/history courses, and whatever specific ethnic groups inhabit that region.

This legislation is meant to specifically disempower a group of people from exercising the rights everyone else is allowed. That is why I am pissed. It is a legislation specifically designed to deprive a certain ethnicity of the rights afford to anyone else. If I pay taxes for my area school, we have the right to have a curriculum favorable to our community if we can get it through the school board.
This law deprives a community of this right.

Concerning your ‘in-state tuition’ tirade. Illegal immigration =/= Latinos at large. That seems to be the problem here, you think depriving Latino Citizens of their rights is the same as oppossing illegal immigration.

It’s not, and you simply lack cognitive ability if you it is. Italian, Chinese, Indian, Bosnian illegals get the same treatment in any state with such slanted legislation. While Latinos constitute about Ã???Ã??Ã?¾ of illegal immigrants in the USA there are another 25% from all over the globe. Proximity is what makes them so over represented. To say that representation statically equals causation, could be applied in many other discriminatory ways. Such as the fact that over 90% of white collar criminals are honkeys. I suppose any time I talk about white people now, I should make it synonymous with white collar crime.

We have the right to maintain our culture and religion in the regions conquered by the USA per the treaties we signed with the USA. Attempting to silence our history, make extinct our language, and put up road blocks at every corner for participation in gov’t, is not that.

Imagine that California was conquered by China, and they signed a treaty guranteeing your cultural and religious rights to carry on as you did before. Then 120 years from then, they had flooding the state demographically to the point that they constituted a slim majority. They tried to ban English language, disallow American history from public schools, and invalidate/bar you from gov’t in 100 different ways. Further, despite demanding that you ‘Assimilate’ to Han Chinese, they instead constantly refered to you as ‘illegals’ for being Anglo-Saxons. They blamed your community for the Americans from the mid-West that came to Sino-California for work. Then they imposed a system to crack down on this illegal immigraton that required you to carry papers on you at all times, and you would be randomly inspected simply for looking whitish.

Would you not be a little disturbed by all that? Welcome to being a Latino in Arizona.

Are you seriously this intellectually craterous? When have I ever called myself a Hyphenated ANTYHING. I am an American. My blood comes form Russia, Iberia, and the indigenous cultures of Latin America. I don’t run around calling myself a Bolivian-American, and haven’t since I was 15 or so.

You weren’t ‘catered to’ for two reasons. You weren’t living in a region that was conquered by the USA, you weren’t a conquered people, you were an immigrant. Two, you weren’t living in a largely Italian region. NEWSFLASH…IN LARGELY ITALIAN REGIONS AND COMMUNITIES THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS OFFER ITALIAN LANGUAGE AND CULTURE/HISTORY. OMG YOUR PEOPLE ARE TOTALLY SHITTING ON THE AMERICAN FLAG!

Further, your own people refer to themselves as Italian-Ameriicans as well as countless other ethnic groups that are largely ‘assimilated’. That Vincenzo faggot from Jersey Shore has a goddamn Italian flag tattooed on his back.

You are completley glib and without any historicity. Riddle me this Mr . Italian…if we are so unique in the world as these seditious minorities who supposedly at large identity ourselves as some other nationality. Then why the FUCK do the Albanians in Italy still kill themselves Arbereshe 700 years later? Why do the Greeks of Southern Italy still call themselves Grechi 2000 years later.

And why the fuck is it, that the ‘ban’ the Arizonans put out was against ‘CHICANO STUDIES’ and not MEXICAN-AMERICAN studies. You are an un-researched ham-handed twit with a bigotry almost as big as your ego if your hateful passion blinded you from making any of those logical connections.

We are Americans, we refer to ourselves as Latinos or Hispanics because that is a culturally identity, one that can exist simultaneous with the American one, as we were here in Saint Augstine 100 years before Jamestown was set up. We reflect our ethnic/national background with names like Chicano, Nuyorican, Amorican, Pochos or Estadounidense. Us being Latino makes us no less American than someone being Anglo-Saxon or African-American does.

Seriously Max, I used to like you man, I never knew you could be so dense.

MaximusB wrote:

I can tell you never even read the law, just like Obama, just like Holder, when SB 1070 came out. You should try pulling this shit in other countries, NO other country is so nice to people here illegally.
MaximusB wrote:
Bush was pandering for your vote, and he got it. Obama did the same thing, yet he has deported more people than any other president in history, yet you still support him. That’s your choice, not mine. Bush was also wrong about legalization being the only way. If you cut off the jobs, and deport people from within the city (like Secure Communities does), they leave. Alabama has seen an almost 2% drop in their unemployment rate since they passed their law.

This is true. No shot need be fired. I for one welcome our Latino overlords. Sort of hope you folks get your social norms under control, though. Educational achievement gap in reading and math…bad stuff economically. Children out of wedlock don’t make for dependable taxpayers/young workers, either. Not a racial slight, but a cultural one. Whites most definitely aren’t immune, as our rate has been climbing. Somewhere around 26-28% now? Apparently the superior race gene stopped working.

The replacement fertility rate is cautiously welcomed, but not if all it does is fill ghettos, prisons, and welfare lines. Harsh? Don’t care. I really don’t give a damn what color (brown, tan, pink) the nation is. I do care what it’s condition is and will be. Most likely Hispanics will become the face of the US. And of course, with demographic dominance, the language. Have at it. Just, for everyone’s sake get it together, please? Maybe us white’s will be up to 55% out-of-wedlock by then, underachieving, blaming the man (successful Hispanics). We’re going to need a successful majority to pay for entitlements, and to produce wealth. It’s that, or we’ll still be overachieving as a minority, carrying a crushing and impossible social burden.

Hope I didn’t hurt anyone’s feeling, but gotta be honest. If only for the sake of everyone’s descendents. Long story short, don’t care. But the majority better their crap together or everyone’s descendents will be much poorer.

And, a humongous (high 50’s percent) out of wedlock birth rate–with the usual negative socioeconomics attached. There’s no such thing as hate facts, so get over it. 1. You are comparing Hispanic people to Anglo-Saxon White Caucasian people which is not an apt comparison. We comprise three ‘biological’ races. What you are comparing is apples to oranges, as we are 4 racial constructions independently. If I measured all ‘Anglophone’ people’s in the United States, ie integrating the African-American population which you categorize as distinct from you, I would arrive at similarly dismal figures. Comparing racially ‘white’ Latinos, to racially white Anglo-philes would be a more apt comparison. We are as much of a ‘race’ as being an English speaker is.
 2. Our out wedlock birth rates result in marriage at a far greater than Anglo ones do. Further, our divorce rate is a fraction of yours.
 3. ‘Latino’ underperformance is anecdotal as it has to do with the fact much of the Mexican-American populatin are the refuse of Mexico. They are a people without a cultural of education achievement and are basically neo-peasants. They pull down the score, I am not saying their ignorance is not a problem, but to connotate with Hispanicity as a whole is inaccurate. It is anecotal.

You also overlook the fact that they are the ‘Asians of Trades.’ While many lack education they are highly proficient in skilled mechanical trades, and at a far greater rate than any other race. In a successful economy, not everyone is an academic. These machinists are as important as your lawyers. It’s not all about academia.

 1. Bilingual education would fix much of what is wrong with education in historically Hispanic regions.
 2. The educational achievement of Americans of South American descent and Cuban Americans not only exceeds but belittles the Anglo-Saxon white standard.

Educating the refuse of Mexico will be a grand project for the larger Latino community. However, to say that the Latino community is one that is largely uneducated and familially broken is entirely inaccurate, as you provide no basis for comparison. It is a community comprised of various constitutiencies just as ‘Anglophone’ Americans are.

What you are comparing is apples to oranges, as we are 4 races independently.

 2. Our out wedlock birth rates result in marriage at a far greater than white ones do.

 4. Bilingual education would fix much of what is wrong with education in historically Hispanic regions.

 5. The educational achievement of Americans of South American descent and Cuban Americans not only exceeds but belittles the Anglo-Saxon white standard.

Educating the refuse of Mexico will be a grand project for the larger Latino community. However, to say that the Latino community is one that is largely uneducated and familially broken is entirely inaccurate, as you are comparing it to something incomparable. It is a community comprised of various constitutiencies just as ‘Anglophone’ Americans are.
Fella, I don’t care about the racial breakdown. Be it white or brown Hispanic. We’re talking about a Hispanic majority, period. And it will be major economic, criminal, and social entitlement issue. It it already is becoming one in individual states.

It would actually probably be incredibly beneficially as the under classes of Latinos are willing to work and are the ‘Asians of Trades.’ The Anglo-Saxon model of Lawyer/MBAor COD playing basement dweller pothead who works at manager of Chipotle is not the basis of a sound economy. With a Latino majority if representaton in trades follows we’d have a veritable army of tradesmen instead of slacker refuse.

Between Floridina engineers and MBAs, alongside the Chicano tradesmen, you’d have the potential to have a far more robust economy.

One of the ills of the current model is we simply don’t have enough people taking on the labor-intensive intermediate trades. The only group that has a balance of this, is Latinos. We can’t all be spoiled white girl photography majors, and homosexual white boy psychologists. That’s pretty much what your culture puts out en masse today. I don’t think that even with their SAT scores you can make an argument they are more valuable than the Latino machinists, carpenters, electricians and mechanics that are their parrallel representation.

Yet, for your vision to come true, you’ve got to work out the very real and alarming issues I raised. A majority that still maintains an education gap doesn’t make for a wealthier nation. Or, for a manageable prison population…58% out of wedlock I believe.

Now, your critiques of modern anglo-saxon culture don’t offend me, as I think much the same. The photography and psychology line actually got a chuckle out of me. The sense of entitlement for over represented and underemployed college majors is something I’ve pointed out in this very forum. Nor does the comment about sitting in the basement (make it mom’s basement) playing video games at 25 years of age. I’d be surprised if I haven’t said the same, here. Further, whites (non-hispanic) are up to nearly 30% out-of-wedlock (I’ve mentioned this before). So, I have no belief in some inherent ability for whites to perpetually maintain a self-responsible/governing society. That’s something that takes conscious social effort. Perhaps, by the time Hispanics catch up in population, we could very likely have caught up–or surpassed–in socioeconomic negatives. At which point, it’s moot anyways.

Now, maybe I’m reading you wrong…On a second reading I get almost a racial-superiority vibe in your ‘Hispanic-breakdown.’ I’ll ask outright to get it out of the way. You don’t see Caucasian-latino as inherently more intelligent or upper-class than the darker-skinned hispanic, do you? Could be me reading something into it, but you’ve painted a racial-caste portrait of Hispanics. So, as you see it, is this cultural or racial? Not saying my reading is accurate, but clarity would be welcome.

Rohynyn,

You took my post into a personal attack, I don’t know why.

As far as what Bush said about illegal immigration, I think we both said the same thing. I said that if you dry up the jobs and freed them up for citizens and legal residents, then illegal immigrants have no choice but to go home. But you gave your own rebuttal. As long as there are people willing to work for less than legal wages, then legal workers get fucked. How is that different from exporting jobs to China for cheap labor ?

I would think an epidemic in Alabama would be front page news, but I have not seen or heard of ANYTHING, and trust me I would where I live. Their unemployment rate dropped by nearly 2% points. When I go to the market, I see no fruit, vegetable, or legume that is either scarce or magically expensive because of low supply.

As far as every culture having immunity from the legislation that AZ passed against Mexican-American studies, NONE of them are as anti-American and hate-promoting as as MAS is. Every single aspect is about hate-Whitey. White hate, White privilege, White guilt. None of those other cultures promote that, not that I know of.

Show me EXACTLY where Italians are shitting on the American flag, I have NEVER heard of such a claim, EVER. Show me something, or SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT IT. You ain’t gonna just disrespect like that and talk to me like I got no nuts. As far as Grechi or Albanians, are we in Southern Italy or Albania ? Because this is America, and I have no say in what happens in another place but my own.

I would like to quote you from your above post…

"And why the fuck is it, that the ‘ban’ the Arizonans put out was against ‘CHICANO STUDIES’ and not MEXICAN-AMERICAN studies.

Us being Latino makes us no less American than someone being Anglo-Saxon or African-American does."

DUDE, you both attacked me for citing the ‘ban’ on Chicano Studies, and not Mexican-American studies ? You act like I enacted the ban myself ! I didn’t ban shit ! I didn’t even name the fucking classes either ! Secondly, in the very next paragraph, you even use ‘Chicano’ as an identity that Latino people relate to, but call me a fucking ham-handed twit for simply stating that the curriculum titled it that way? Dude, fuck you and suck a dick at the same time.

It is this very bullshit you promote that causes you to not get with the program.

“Last year, only 5 percent of the Huntington Park students tested as proficient or better in math and 24 percent were proficient or better in English.”
