ive been in your position before, being on tour for the better part of 2-3 years.
it takes some creativity and hard work (i know sometimes the last thing you wanna do in the heat of the south in the summer after being awake driving for 2 days straight is think about healthy food choices and working out)… but it can definitely be done if you want it bad enough.
i could go into detail about how/what i ate and how i worked out if interested.
what are you touring in? and how big of a trailer do you have?
I would recommend working on difficult bodyweight progressions. Check out BeastSkills.com and bwculture.com. Can you do strict one arm pushups? Handstand pushups? One arm handstand pushups? One arm chinups? Planche? One legged squats?
All of these exercises are fun to work on, and unless you’re very strong and coordinated already, they will give you plenty to work on, with pretty much no equipment.
Jimmy C if you have your road diet I’d love to hear it on account of you being shredded in your picture. Specifically, your total food costs if you have them. We are touring in a van, he is a solo musician and I play back up guitar so we travel light enough to negate the need for a trailer. I am a videographer and am lugging around my equipment but nothing that weighs enough or is durable enough to use as such. I have certainly gotten a lot of great advice on exercise and I will just really be trying to get my bodyweight exercises at high levels as we really won’t have access to heavy equipment.
I feel like deadlifting the car would certainly break my back at this point but I guess it would work for some of the bigger guys. Here’s a question though I have been thinking of. What about overuse injury with the high numbers on bodyweight exercises. Is there a cap I should have for these exercises with reps and also frequency?
You could get some REALLY good workouts using some of those. Make sure you do everything safely. Like dont get crushed by the car, but all of that is pretty simple.
There are limitless options, but say you were to take Car pushing, pushups, and pullups.
6-8 Car pushes x max distance in 30 seonds
Pushups 3 x 8 (have a partner apply resistance on your upper back to make it so 8 is hard
Pullups 3 x AMRAP
Finish up with some curls, or tri exts or some BW pushups for max reps.
So there, I solved your training problems, now youve got to solve your diet problems. Hit up a costco or something similar to find cheap food. Take it with you and eat it. DONE!
***Oh and check out the 24 hour ghetto workout on youtube. They find places to do pullups wherever.
