Nikki Haley...for President?

And I’m sick to death of hearing that Trump is the reason for our current economy; while giving President Obama and his Administration (unlike Trump, he would not take all of the credit) no credit whatsoever for taking us from the brink of disaster.

Thank God it wasn’t Trump in the White House on January 20, 2009.

We absolutely will not.

Appreciate the way you look at it. And honestly I’m more in favor of people like Trump. Not in terms of what I view as horrible bullshit statements like defaulting on the debt is no big deal because I’m a good negotiator and don’t worry we print our own money. Or that everyone wants specifics of Warrens healthcare but didn’t bat an eye when Trump said everyone would get coverage and it would be cheaper.

I’m in favor of people getting away from the party idea and picking and choosing standpoints on individual issues for sure. But is the national debt and spending really a core belief of your party if you only care about it under Dems? Is talking to dictators bad all the time or just if Obama says he will?

Don’t get me wrong Dems do the exact same shit. But it seems to me like Trump runs very counter on a great many issues to what Republicans were in favor of very very recently. Which I don’t think is necessarily a bad thing on its own it just shows that politicians on the whole don’t really have too much they won’t flip flop on constantly if it seems like that’s the way the political winds are blowing.

Make zero mistake about it if a dem is elected spending is all of the sudden going to be worth talking about all the time.

What suggestions do you think regarding the Fed obligations that eat up the lion’s share of tax revenue - medicare, medicaid, social security, and military?

Unfortunately, no politicians are willing to fall on these swords, for the good of the country.

It didn’t play a large (and I’m a fan of some deregulation). The expansion has been going for some time - deregulation didn’t goose a stalling economy.

This isn’t true. The tax cuts did not produce a demand side boom. Didn’t produce a supply side boom either.

Trump will get credit for a booming economy - presidents do, and that’s ok - but it’s not his doing. He didn’t turn around a bad economy into a good one. He does fairly get credit for not messing it up, though he has come close with his dumb trade war (which has harmed certain parts of the economy even as the total economy shows good numbers).

As for trade deals, I don’t know of a single one. His administration reworked NAFTA, but only with cosmetic changes. Per Trump’s game in business, everything on that front was about rebranding, not reforming. He wants his supporters to think he - like a superhero - swooped in, tore up NAFTA, and saved the country with his unbeatable negotiation skills. But that isn’t what happened.

And on China - this is one of the few areas of policy I kinda agree on with Trump. We were long overdue to deal with China and trade status. But he’s gone in and made a hash of it all.

I agree with you whole heartedly on this.

I like Nikki Haley for the most part. Falling into the Us vs Them trap by coming in lock step with Trump is something I hope doesn’t happen.

My way to vet candidates for the upcoming elections is going to be to read their books. They are much more telling than anything in the cable/radio media.
Looking forward to her presidential run (I am guessing 2024 like you).

Thanks, @cyclonengineer.

Trump and his Minions had pretty much put me in a “To hell with it!” mood, especially when it came to national politics. And the DEMS “progressive” lean just put the icing on the cake.

When Haley runs (she is slowly but surely putting an infrastructure in place in all 50 States; is speaking everywhere at a feverish pace; and most importantly is courting big-money donors, even though I think she will, and is, courting the small donor); when she runs, she will not be able to ignore the Trumpublicans (whom I predict Trump will still have a huge grip and influence on, even after he leaves office). The question is how much and to what extent.

FAKE NEWS!

You’re just a hater, @thunderbolt23!

Haley’s book is scheduled to be released this week.

My suggestion would be not to say we have a massive issue here when your opponent is running the show and then ignore the problem when you’re in charge. Or at least if you ignore the problem while in power don’t turn around and say it’s an issue when your not.

Spending was an issue under Obama and we heard about it frequently from Republicans. Not only do we not hear about it now from them they ran a guy who said it doesn’t matter.

My how the huge problem went away in a hurry.

Amen…!

I’m not nearly so concerned with the politics or optics (hate that term).

The debt is a time bomb, even when you ‘print’ the money.
But that fault lies in particularly on the Congress first with the deficit spending.

I’m not disagreeing I just don’t need either side only being concerned with it when they don’t have the keys

I agree with this, but let’s not shift responsibility here - The People vote these representatives in and give them the power to borrow. The People voted for these policies and services that are being funded by this deficit spending - and that INCLUDES Defense spending - not just entitlements; however, entitlements are the lion’s share of the budget IIRC.

So, it’s not JUST Congress’ fault - ultimately it’s our fault for both wanting more than we can fund and voting these people in that promise things they/we can’t afford in the long run…

We’ll have to tighten our belts eventually, both in terms of what we pay in taxes and what Congress spends money on…

But…but… it was your Congressman, not mine. ;7)

Nah man, I get that too. Apparently there’s some study that shows most people’s opinion of Congress is down below shit. But their opinion of their own Reps is about God-tier.

My personal opinion of my own Reps is they’re useless, spineless pandering morons who aren’t fit to wipe my ass…so, I’m in the minority that I have contempt for both Congress and my own Reps.

Actually that’s where I sit politically.

People will often mistake the fact that I point out the hypocrisy of many between the Obama Administration and Trump; and that it somehow makes me “liberal”.

No. I’m simply not a Trumpublican…but also not a “Progressive” (whatever that is supposed to mean).

I don’t think anyone here mistook you for anything other than civic-minded and inquisitive … at least I never did. You’ve always been very reasonable and honest in your stances/questions.
