I don’t know. Trump still has what something like 80+% approval among Republican voters, you know the type who vote in the primary and decide who the candidate for the GoP is going to be. Less than 80% of Republicans, but certainly a sizable percentage are hard core Trump supporters who will show up.
I am not saying he will be the candidate in 2024. Many things could happen (he could die, he not be healthy enough, he may not want to run, he may not be a free man…). All I am saying is that if he does run, I think he wins the primary.
That “Politics isn’t about the weird worship of one dude,” quote from Senator Sasse was nail-on-the-head
And it’s totally batshit that Haley would likely (undoubtedly?) receive (county/state gov’t) censure instead of support for professing a level-headed stance
You really think Haley will run against trump in 2024 after trump is sworn in as the 19th president on this coming March 4th? Cause thats what a large percentage of her base currently thinks.
Look at how quickly the GOP has forgiven trump and co. for the events of Jan 6th, circled their wagons around him, and is now flaming anyone who who is not pro-trump.
Its like EVERYONES initial gut reaction after Jan 6th, was " oh this is awful, trump took this way too far, i gottacondemn this and put a stop to this dumpster fire". But, when it became clearly apparent how popular and dedicated the cult of trump is within the trumpublican party, those (without spines) on the right caved and tried to sweep it all under the rug as NBD. All in the past. trump did nothing wrong. Special people and patriots. Almost all of them. Organic food and mexican vacations for the rest.
Any candidate running for national office under the GOP brand will have to understand that they cant have a conservative platform. They need to have a trumpian platform (policy-wise, as well as conduct-wise), no matter how much it makes their stomach turn. I guess we will find out who has that iron stomach. Maybe Ms Haley does.
DeSantis is better than Trump. Perhaps your inability to correctly predict elections is due to your ignorance of the reasons people vote the way they do. You love the Bushes, Clintons, and Obamas. A lot of people detest them.
6 of those 7 face censure, or have been censured by their state GOP for voting that way. The GOP is shit faced drunk on the trump koolaid and acting a fool.
I doubt they’ll sober up in time to pick haley in 2024. Hopefully haley doesn’t plug her nose and drink in the meantime.
Isn’t that what she has been doing thus far? I would like to see a McCain type as the candidate, but I am afraid that isn’t likely to happen with the Trump style politics the GoP seems to be somewhat embracing. They (the GoP) have a problem with Trumpism. I don’t think it is what many of the members want, but it is what many of the voters want. Much like the Tea Party stuff. The issue is that IMO, the GoP has less support than the DEMs do nation wide. If they go for Trump they lose some votes, if they go for a moderate, I think they lose votes (by people staying home).
The GOP doesnt have a problem with trumpism. It IS trumpism. Their fucking policy platform for the 2020 election was single fucking page PDF effectively saying “whatever trump says”. CONSERVATIVES with morals and a brain have a trumpism problem because they dont have anywhere else to go right now.
If i was a democratic political operative id just pump the narrative that the elections was rigged, and with Biden in power there is no way to fix it. Kill the gullible trumpists will to vote.
If a person is conservative mostly on social issues, i can see them having a real tough time voting for a moderate democrat who supports killing unborn children, letting the gays marry, taking all our guns away, etc.
The other issue is how popular the narrative is that the democratic party has been taken over by antifa/BLM/SJWs and there is no moderate part of the party anymore. “a vote for a democrat is a vote for The Squad and for socialism!”. Thats what the most popular news network in the world (by a lot) would have you believe.
Don’t they see they are getting played though? Gay marriage isn’t going anywhere. IIRC, gun rights were restricted more under Trump than Obama (Obama didn’t really restrict anything, and Trump banned bump stocks). The GoP would never intentionally overturn Roe v. Wade (saying they will overturn it is their best carrot IMO).
I bet a lot do, and they also understand some of those social changes are here to stay no matter who gets into office. But getting them to pick a candidate whose platform explicitly goes against their beliefs is a real tough pill to swallow.
