Andrew Jackson.
Have I ever not made the connection between our society and socialism? We have plenty of it and examples abound. I can point out that Hitler had socialist policies (that I disagree with). In an entirely separate conversation I can point out that Bernie has socialist policies I disagree with.
I can do so without conflating Bernie = Hitler. If you thought that’s where I was going I’m sorry.
Ironically I think the “marxists/lenninist/socialist” smear on an individual is far worse than fascist if they actually are one. By body count alone they were worse than fascists and Nazis, and they still are.
We’ve thoroughly sidebared and derailed @Mufasa 'a thread about his girlfriend Nicki Haley and his lament that her trying to appeal to unwashed working people makes her as odious as Trump.
So I’ll stop misbehaving now and wish you a hearty ‘good day’ @zecarlo . We were never going to change anyone’s mind anyway.
The problem is when you call liberals socialists and then add in they are therefore fascists and Nazis, it makes it easier for actual fascists to advance their agenda.
Interesting except from wiki
The scale of Bismarck’s triumph cannot be exaggerated. He alone had brought about a complete transformation of the European international order. He had told those who would listen what he intended to do, how he intended to do it, and he did it. He achieved this incredible feat without commanding an army, and without the ability to give an order to the humblest common soldier, without control of a large party, without public support, indeed, in the face of almost universal hostility, without a majority in parliament, without control of his cabinet, and without a loyal following in the bureaucracy. He no longer had the support of the powerful conservative interest groups who had helped him achieve power. The most senior diplomats in the foreign service … were sworn enemies and he knew it. The Queen and the Royal Family hated him and the King, emotional and unreliable, would soon have his 70th birthday. … With perfect justice, in August 1866, he punched his fist on his desk and cried “I have beaten them all! All!”[37]
C’mon, Brother @Basement_Gainz…I didn’t even INSINUATE that!
Trump voters and supporters cover a wide swatch of individuals, just like the DEMS.
I have never been one to suggest that they were all a bunch of inbreeding, dumb rednecks.
Trump has conned the rich and poor; and the educated and uneducated.
Maybe not all but…
No, he works for the rich.
If they were educated in Elvisville.
Norm Macdonald should be president. My first pick was Mitch Hedberg but unfortunately he’s no longer with us ![]()
You might have just became my favorite person on this site.
Norm is insanely underrated and belongs in the Mount Rushmore of comedians. I’m not sure if he is the best of all time but I know he’s my favorite.
I’ve listened to as much as I could possibly get from him and some stuff I’ve listened to tons of times. One of the best ever.
Mitch was amazing as well.
Norm, unfortunately, is a Canadian.
Haley is on “CBS this Sunday Morning” this week.
Excerpts show her “solid” on the impeachment issue; but “twisting” uncomfortably the way people do when defending Trump.
As @H_factor alluded to in another thread…I don’t think there would be any twisting by the GOP if there was as much information out there on President Obama as there is against Trump.
With that being said; I predict that Trump slinks his way past another bump in the road.
Haley? Probably playing things as best as she can.
The house WILL vote to impeach him. From an optics standpoint they absolutely must.
The Senate won’t vote to impeach him unless there’s ironclad 100% inescapable proof of something (stained dress).
More hanging chad I’m afraid.
The Senate?
lolz.
Trump was right. They wouldn’t impeach him if he killed someone in Times Square in broad daylight.
I liked Haley’s interview on “CBS Sunday Mornining”.
She was pretty “solid” when talking about Trump…but as always, defending him does require some contortions, even from the best of us.
When she left as UN Ambassador, she did say that she would campaign for Trump.
I suppose I’m okay with that. 2020 will be a helluva’ balancing act. She simply can’t alienate Trump’s Minions, while at the same time maintaining her broad appeal.
If anybody can do it, Haley can.
Oh!
She doesn’t want to be considered “ambitious” (which she feels carries a negative connotation for women).
Instead she wants to be considered “Bad-Ass”!
You got it!
That’s lame as shit … I like Haley since her days as SC gov and would likely vote for her but don’t see anything wrong with ambitious … to me it’s a pretty neutral term
Wtf does badass mean when it comes to the presidency? She thinks ambitious has a negative connotation for women so chooses a term that has no meaning.
(A reporter in 2018 was the first to call her “badass”. She accepts the characterization).
Trump is tweeting to his Minions to buy her book.
She either is reaching a pretty good “balance”…or has “gone to the Dark Side”.
We’ll see.
(A side note: I didn’t realize that she had campaigned for Senator Rubio in 2016 against Trump).
What about her makes her a badass? She’s an accountant.
Nah man, she’s also a former Governor of SC, being a daughter of Indian immigrants. She’s also a former US Ambassador to the UN - where, in my opinion, she represented the US quite well in what seems to be a den of snakes. Served 3 terms in the SC state legislature. Also a former CFO. I’d say she’s done a bit more than being “an accountant”…
