NHL Playoffs 2006

Lastly, AgentOrange: I think we have more of a right to be in here than you do. When was the last time any team in Canada won the cup? 13 years ago? Okay then. Even Mr. Rangers fan over here has a more recent cup than all the teams left in your country.

What is this ‘we’ ‘you’ stuff? Hockey is an international game. The majority of the PLAYERS are still Canadian, so why get nationalistic?

Canadian teams have still won more cups than American, if anyone cares. It should be about the game.

The Canadians sucked at the Olympics, the Finns were the best team in the tournament, and Sweden was best when it counted.

Hockey has not become as international as football (soccer), but it is fun to watch, players are from more and more countries, and the standard gets better and better.

Pissing contests about MY TEAM, my country, etc. make about as much sense as ‘My dad can bench more than yours…’

NO FUCKING WAY! My Dad is jacked!

:]

He came out with a “no one cares about NY/NJ” comment so I threw in a comment of my own. If he cares about hockey, and good hockey teams, he should care about NY/NJ. I have nothing against Canada or Canadian teams.

GO FLAMES GO!

There NEEDS to be an Edmonton - Calgary playoff series again. Its been way too long.

I agree with whoever said that Oilers / Flames fans have a certain level of respect for each other. Mostly I think because the last playoff series was 15 years ago.

I hope the Leafs and Canucks are cursed and NEVER make it to the Finals again.

Flames need to play way better - which I expect starting tonight. Sure wish we still had Gelinas though.

GO FLAMES GO!

I second the Go Flames go!

I am from Calgary, but live a long away from home now. Back in the 80’s, when the Oilers ruled the world people had bumper stickers with: ‘My favourite team is the Oilers and my second favourite team is whoever is playing against the Flames’. Or Flames/Oilers reversed. I was so pro-Calgary and anti-Edmonton I could not see how amazing Gretzky was until I moved away from cowtown.

It is strange and yet refreshing to read here that Edmontonians and Calgarians mutually respect each other. Good to know.

I have finally reached an age where the sport is most important.

I agree that the Flames have to play better. Kipper cannot carry the team without them scoring a few. But thanks to him they have a great chance to advance. An Oilers - Flames series would probably be good for Alberta, I just hope that there aren’t tooooo many haters still around, on both sides.

You should. Jersey’s going to beat your Canadian teams…hey, maybe the Blue Jays will be good this year…you never know.

Oh yes, the Playoffs are back and I am so happy, except for the amount of penalties that have to be called nowadays.

I agree. The crackdown on obstruction in the regular season helped speed up the game a lot.
Prior to this, there had been a big problem with clutching and grabbing slowing down the game.

However, the playoffs are a different season. There was NEVER a problem with playoff intensiy or flow in my opinion. The number of penalties being called is ridiculous and is slowing down the game more than helping.

I say they should ease up on the calls in the playoffs.
My point exactly
vroom wrote:
I disagree that too many (legit) penalties are being called.

Clutching and holding is not really a part of hockey. If we can get rid of it, then the very good players will be able to outperform the not as great players.

Simply hooking the body with the stick was a great equalizer. I’m really enjoying seeing the faster players who can stick handle – that’s hockey!
That is a very good point. I have always been a fan of clean hockey. That doesnt mean i dont love bonecrushing hits, but no cheap shit like holding and crosschecking people to the ice.
But my point was that playoff hockey isnt as fun to watch right now bc of all the penalties slowing the game down. Nothing compares to the intensity of 5 on 5 hockey in the playoffs. I think its going to take several years before players finally stop with all the cheap shit,if the rules stay as strict. Its so hard as a player bc its such an emotional game, probably the most emotional game out there. I truly think hockey is the ultimate test of mental ability. I know from experience and watching how emotions get in the way sometimes.

Well my team came out and shocked everybody. Coming home for games 3 & 4 up 2-0 on the Stars is pretty good in my book. If they can keep up this level of play I think at worst we could split the two in Colorado (who knows maybe take them both)

My only fear in this is Dallas is a good team and will get their shots, hopefully Theo can hold up and we can continue the offensive support!

New Jersey fans are pretty vocal and aggressive here. Is that to make up for one of the league’s worst attendance records? Maybe people in New Jersey don’t give a shit either. Even when they were winning attendance sucked. What’s up with less than 75% capacity attendance?

No Wings fans? They just came back from a 3-1 defecit and are going into overtime right now. GO WINGS!

Yeah youre right, Dallas can shoot. But can Turco stay consistent a not fold. I honestly doubt it. He has folded numerous times when it counts, and for that reason i think the Avs are taking that series, and Turco might not ever win a Stanley Cup.

Did you read the first post that both of us were replying to? You are calling us aggressive? We are being defensive sure, but Orange was the one being aggressive and I’m not sure how you could miss that.

As for attendance records … is that some sort of smack talk? I can’t help it if other people don’t like the Devils. They’re my team and I cheer for them, I haven’t had time to devote to my Devils Fan Campaign lately…

Alfuh:
I stand corrected. You’re right. I was slinging mud because you guys were slinging mud. My bad. Agent Orange started the aggressiveness but that is typical for a Edmontonian (just kidding A O!!!)

I will admit, that reading about NYR/NJ and almost nothing else was for me personally a bit much. But if no one else responds, WTF, I#, SOL? NJ and NYR are both good teams, and I have no problems with either. You guys have a right to toot your horns.

If I want to to just read about the Flames, I probably have to get onto another website. This is after all a BB site. There are not tons of hockey fans here, but that is not the reason I am here for the most part.

I am happy to part of the world’s best training site, and to have a bit of hockey is a bonus. Keep this thread going. Things are now starting to get interesting.

The Oilers are getting the Wings nervous, the Senators were hot last night, and my Flames won. Where are the few fans that visit this site?

Unfortunately, the Flames game last night was the first one I saw from start to finish as the coverage here in Europe is not great.

I see where some of you are coming from in terms of the officiating. I think that if the officials are at least consistent, then the teams can adapt.

The Flames-Ducks game had LOTS of good hitting, a fight or two, and was a bit chippy. The Flames finally figured out their power play so it was tough for the Ducks, as Calgary scored 4 x on the PP.

But I would rather see guys like Niedermayer, Selanne, Iginla, Alfredsson, etc. lighting it up with classy moves than clutch and grab grinding.

Ironically, a grinder like McCarty has 2 goals in this series for the Flames, one a game winner.

Don’t underestimate the skill level of someone like McCarty, these are the guys who bring home the cup. He was a fan favorite here in Detroit, and from the looks of it we could use him now.

As far as Detroit being nervous, they are a very experienced team who won’t be beaten until the end. Their last Cup was won after being behind every series but the finals.

skyora has missed two wide open nets in the first period…i think lamorillo already has him under the cap for next yeear

You have a different excuse for every Devils win. Could it be that just maybe we are a hell of alot better than you. Second round here we come. The only question is, Are the Rangers going to score more than 2 goals all series? Maaaar-Tyyyys better…
snipeout wrote:

:]

Devils still looking solid. Its not over until its over though. Odds of the Rangers coming back are very slim, but they’re still there.

Austro Canuck: glad you read through the posts and understand where we were coming from. I’m just here to talk some hockey. :]
