dude you are just being dumb now…the devils played a 40 game season that year…equivalent to tough schedule at college or junior, if you think that was a legit cup just ask yourself where the devils, rangers, and sharks were 40 games into the season this year…i’ll answer it for you, in completely different positions. You cant compare a win in a lockout shortened season in which they didnt have to go through the grind of the a full season.

The Devils are the blight of the NHL, they are reason why the NHL had a diminshing fan base in the 90’s and devils fans have about as much hockey acumen as the average soccer mom.

Blight of the NHL my ass.

No one watches hockey because there’s football and baseball, and hockey is (or was) a low scoring game.

Diminished fan base? There never was a fan base for hockey. If anything, the Devils helped it out by bringing hockey to prominence in an area with a ton of people and a lot of money- NJ.

I understand that you’re a bitter Ranger fan, but that’s no reason to bash what could be called a dynasty right across the river from NY. And I get the feeling that NJ is going to be sending NY home crying…again.

Dude, I am from NJ. I live in the heart of that “fanbase” in lovely northern NJ. Born and raised. The Devils organization, while well run, is the number one reason why fans turned away from the game, why the game had shitty TV viewing for much of the 90’s and yes, why the NHL as a whole had a diminshing fan base.

Sure there are other reasons, like over expansion into non hockey markets, shitty owners in hockey towns such as boston and chicago, etc, but the number one reason is that the devils showed people its possible to win with little to no talent and complete butchering of the intent of the rules. Everyone else tried to followed and soon people realized they were paying 50 bucks a ticket for the same effect they could have got with a 3 dollar pill of Lunesta. Its pathetic.

Somewhere along the line people forgot that sports are entertainment pure and simple, and let it get out of hand. Is that the Devils fault, No. But it is their fault for getting the puck sliding towards to see who could be the least entertaining, least fan friendly game in the world. And Yes, the Devils excelled.

Don’t go telling me about NJ this and NJ that, I live there, I watch the abomination of their first stanley cup, them parading around the fucking meadowlands with 1000 fans, because their fanbase is miniscule due to their boring play. I was there when Devils players were bringing the cup to local bars in my neighborhood. I saw the shit their coaches instilled in them first hand when they practiced at south mountain following my team.

Hell, I have a picture somewhere of me drinking from the cup with the Alcholic himself Ken Daneyko at bar right next to the my rink. Don’t go preaching to me about the Devils. I have endured the last 10 years of my life dealing with no nothing bandwagon devils fans and the only pleasure is the fact that what ‘fans’ they have are comical in their support as evidenced by the fact that I could log onto their website after the playoffs had been set and EASILY get tickets to their playoff games. You think they have strong fans. Watch the game on saturday, the Let’s go Rangers Chants will be just as loud as the Lets Go Devils ones are.

Thanks,

Me

p.s. Let’s Go Rangers.

I remember hearing that the Devils only sold something like 12k tickets to one of their playoff games against Carolina in the '02 playoffs. This wasn’t a total aboration either.

I do like Brodeur though. When his wife filed for divorce a couple years ago it turned out in her filing that the cause was him having slept with her sister. That takes sack.

Ya but wasnt he also accused of smacking around his wife too? I cant remember, and I dont remember what ever happened to the charges. [/quote]

Brodeur was never accused of beating his wife, just adultery. STOP HATING ON THE DEVILS! Don’t be mad just because the rangers couldn’t accomplish what the Devils did. Sports are not all about the scoring. Purists, real fans of the sport appreciate defense. Offense wins games defense wins championships. Now quit your crying and accept your fate.

there is a difference between defense and what the devils did. I love watching great defensive defensemen, ala Lidstrom, Samuelson, etc. The devils played defense like they were Defensive Backs within the first five yards of the line of scrimmage.

as for the HAbs, much as I love Kovalev and would name my first born after him, they dont have a shot in hell.

FYI, Patrick Roy was accused of beating his wife, not Brodeur.

Also, as a testament to Brodeur’s focus and determination, he won the 2003 Stanley Cup in the midst of all the turmoil surrounding his wife and sister-in-law. Maybe not the world’s best role model as far as interpersonal relations go, but he’s sure an incredible competitor.

In the 2000-2001 season, in which the Devs lost in 7 games in the Stanley Cup finals to the Avalanche, the Devils led the league in regular season goals scored.

Same for the 1999-2000 season, when the Devils beat the Stars to win the cup.

The Devils also led the league in regular season goals in the 1998-99 season.

We’re not talking about “one of the top teams” as far as scoring goals is concerned, we’re talking about THE scoring leaders. So can we get off the Devils as far as being responsible for the lack of scoring in the NHL?

Since my ID on here is Lancefan I better chime in on this thread with…

GO AVALANCHE!!!

I personally don’t think they’ll make it very deep though. Losing Peter Forsberg hurt way too much and now they have problems putting together back to back games of good offense with good defense. But even with that being said I still think RED WINGS SUCK!!!

man the wings have so many big time players. Its amazing they can still pay all of them

Mattaeu…Mattaeu…Stephen Mattaeu…Enough Said…LET’S GO RANGERS!!!

Don’t you wish it was still '94, '94 still '94. But it isn’t. Seems as though the rangers can’t adapt to these new rules that were instituted about 83 games ago. On another not Lundquist is looking great isn’t he? Brodeur certainly looks washed up

Oh where oh where have all the loudmouth ranger fans gone…

There were two calls out of the twenty two in the game that were legit penalties, the bording against jags and the high stick from poti…everything else was ticky tack bullshit that even under the new rules werent penatlies…they called an elbowing call when the guys elbow was around the guys waste for fucks sake

and lundquist played well, theres is not a single one of those that I think were saves he should have made…maybe the rafalski shot from the point, the rest, he was hung out to dry by a tired penalty kill. THe fact that the devils couldnt do jack shit even strength and got out worked and out shot 5-5 gives me great hope. Those refs wont be refing another game so the rangers have a chance as long as JAgs isnt tooo badly injured

Calgary is definitely going to finish the job this year. Watched the game Friday night then walked out the front of my apartment building onto the RED MILE!!! My floor-to-ceiling windows on the second floor look right down on the Red Mile where the 100+ police slowly had to give the street to the thousands of fans ready to party for the next 6 weeks.

This is gonna be absolutely nuts! There ain’t nowhere hockey’s celebrated like 'ere!

i really hope the devils get eliminated i hate them… they’ve won so many cups over the past few years playing the most boring hockey (trap)…

GO SENS GO

Well, it was nice to see the habs kick some major ass tonight.

And, howabout that Philly vs Buffalo game this evening?

Yea I did NOT expect a 6-1 blowout over the Canes.

Expect Gerber to bounce back next game and Huet to continue to step it up.

In my lifetime, I have learned about and experienced a handful of days that I recall the significance of without further detail.
Dec 7 1941
June 6 1944
Sept 11 2001

and June 14 1994

Even after the rangers get blasted there fans have crappy excuses, I LOVE IT!! Whats wrong, cant play by the new rules. Whats funny is that Jagr hurt himself trying to pull a Devil down. Karma is a bitch isnt it?

That Buffalo game was great. I bet people will be nervous to play on Dimitrakos’ line after that buddy pass.
