ya as a hometown fan…im going w/ the Wings…i like their young talent(datysuk, zetterberg most notably) and then the have the vets that know how to finish…

off topic…the tig’s might not be that bad this year…i’ll take a .500 record

see above in response to lundquist. It doesnt matter if he is a one season wonder, it still that one season right now and he is phenomenal. he can be cack next season and it wouldnt matter for this series according to your argument because by what you have just said and by your own logic, Lundquist should be wonderful for this series.

and marty is overrated, he played behind a team that let up 5 shots a game for 2/3rds of his career. Big game richter is 10 times the goalie Brodeur was in big games. See 1994 cup run, 96 World championship run vs Martin “MATTEAU MATTEAU STEPHANE MATTEU” Brodeur.
Your rangers have had one lucky goal in 66 years. My Devils have won 3 of the last 10 stanley cups. If Richter is better where are all his milestones. You can claim great defense in front of Marty and faced less shots, its a good argument. Then explain this year to me, no Stevens and no Niedermayer yet 43 wins and he was the cornerstone of a 9 and 11 game winning streak. The latter of which took the division from all you Ranger fans who already had visions of Jagr skating with the cup over his head.

first of all one of those doesnt even count you played a college hockey schedule and won the stanley cup…nice but it counts for dick.

second, brodeur is still a good goalie…i would never argue different. He is not nearly as great as he is made out to be.

and richter’s milestones are the most important. He lead his team to its first stanley cup in 54 years, then followed it up with by back stopping the US to its first world championship in forever. He doesnt have the longevity numbers that broduer does becuase he had a lot of injuries, many of them from being overworked.

Our good ol’ habs are looking fine come playoff time, too! I’ll be seeing mtl vs the Sabres live on saturday, wish us good luck (like we’d need that :D)

See this is a prime example of why the Sabres are the team to beat this year. The Sabres have locked a spot in the Playoffs, the Habs have not. It’d be easy for the Sabres to just lay down and give the Habs the win. Also considering it was 2-1 Habs at the beginning of the 3rd period, this seemed likely…

but the Sabres said “fuck dat shit! We don’t play dat!” And ended up winning 4-2.
The #1 reason why I like the Sabres chances this year despite a uge lack of playoff experience:

Special teams play

The Sabres have the 2nd best PP and the best PK in the playoffs this year.

As long as the refs keep calling things the way they have, then the Sabres very well could ride their special teams deep into the playoffs. Just like they did in '99 when Hasek wasn’t his normal HOF self, but the Sabres PP got red hot and they got a ton of breaks with who they played until the Finals vs the Stars.

And thank goodness the Devils ended up playing the Rangers in the first round. I’d much rather play the Flyers and their slower defense corps than the Devils who have won 11 straight games and have Brodeur in net.

Plus, I would like to be able to root for local boy Brian Gionta for at least one round.

LOL. As a Devils fan I wanted them in 6th or 3rd. No 5th! I’d much rather play the Flyers or Rangers and am glad we got one of them. Buffalo is good. A couple points away from Eastern Conference champs good. They are easily overlooked because of their lack of star players, but they are a legit threat.

Also, you cheer for Gionta and I’ll cheer for Drury!

You know who I’m rooting for. I got tickets for game 2 at the Mighty Joe Louis Arena Sunday afternoon.

SWEET!! I’m so jealous though, Snake.

It’s so exciting to have both the Wings and the Pistons in the play offs again this year. Good, good times!

Am I reading this right? Are you saying that everyone of the Devils stanley Cup wins was a college schedule? Does that even make any sense? You are now speaking basic gibberish any team that wins 3 cups in 9 years('95 sweep of detroit, 2000 knocked off defending cup champ dallas and 2003 anaheim team with selanne and kariya) is a great team. If it was such a college schedule why couldn’t the rangers do the same. It will be another 54 years before rangers fans see another cup in the garden.

dude you are just being dumb now…the devils played a 40 game season that year…equivalent to tough schedule at college or junior, if you think that was a legit cup just ask yourself where the devils, rangers, and sharks were 40 games into the season this year…i’ll answer it for you, in completely different positions. You cant compare a win in a lockout shortened season in which they didnt have to go through the grind of the a full season.

The Devils are the blight of the NHL, they are reason why the NHL had a diminshing fan base in the 90’s and devils fans have about as much hockey acumen as the average soccer mom.

The Devils weren’t to blame. The head honchos in the NHL offices that never had the cojones to crack on obstruction and make changes to get the game back to a contest of skill were to blame.

The Devils merely took advantage of what the system gave them.

Let’s go Devils…

Not because I really follow hockey that much, but more because they’re one of the only teams that has “New Jersey” on the logo instead of “New York, but we play in Jersey”.

And because Brodeur is an awesome guy.

Blight of the NHL my ass.

No one watches hockey because there’s football and baseball, and hockey is (or was) a low scoring game.

Diminished fan base? There never was a fan base for hockey. If anything, the Devils helped it out by bringing hockey to prominence in an area with a ton of people and a lot of money- NJ.

I understand that you’re a bitter Ranger fan, but that’s no reason to bash what could be called a dynasty right across the river from NY. And I get the feeling that NJ is going to be sending NY home crying…again.

Jim_Bobv, Gionta’s your hometown boy eh? That means you must be from Rochester as well as your’s truly.

Dude, I am from NJ. I live in the heart of that “fanbase” in lovely northern NJ. Born and raised. The Devils organization, while well run, is the number one reason why fans turned away from the game, why the game had shitty TV viewing for much of the 90’s and yes, why the NHL as a whole had a diminshing fan base.

Sure there are other reasons, like over expansion into non hockey markets, shitty owners in hockey towns such as boston and chicago, etc, but the number one reason is that the devils showed people its possible to win with little to no talent and complete butchering of the intent of the rules. Everyone else tried to followed and soon people realized they were paying 50 bucks a ticket for the same effect they could have got with a 3 dollar pill of Lunesta. Its pathetic.

Somewhere along the line people forgot that sports are entertainment pure and simple, and let it get out of hand. Is that the Devils fault, No. But it is their fault for getting the puck sliding towards to see who could be the least entertaining, least fan friendly game in the world. And Yes, the Devils excelled.

Don’t go telling me about NJ this and NJ that, I live there, I watch the abomination of their first stanley cup, them parading around the fucking meadowlands with 1000 fans, because their fanbase is miniscule due to their boring play. I was there when Devils players were bringing the cup to local bars in my neighborhood. I saw the shit their coaches instilled in them first hand when they practiced at south mountain following my team.

Hell, I have a picture somewhere of me drinking from the cup with the Alcholic himself Ken Daneyko at bar right next to the my rink. Don’t go preaching to me about the Devils. I have endured the last 10 years of my life dealing with no nothing bandwagon devils fans and the only pleasure is the fact that what ‘fans’ they have are comical in their support as evidenced by the fact that I could log onto their website after the playoffs had been set and EASILY get tickets to their playoff games. You think they have strong fans. Watch the game on saturday, the Let’s go Rangers Chants will be just as loud as the Lets Go Devils ones are.

Thanks,

Me

p.s. Let’s Go Rangers.

I remember hearing that the Devils only sold something like 12k tickets to one of their playoff games against Carolina in the '02 playoffs. This wasn’t a total aboration either.

I do like Brodeur though. When his wife filed for divorce a couple years ago it turned out in her filing that the cause was him having slept with her sister. That takes sack.

Ya but wasnt he also accused of smacking around his wife too? I cant remember, and I dont remember what ever happened to the charges.

Are we going to talk smack about the playoffs or whine about the devils for the entire thread?

Habs hands down!@#!

Huet will stop all those shots with his magical Frenchman tricks.
