NHL Free Agency Thread

Up here, it’s like Christmas morning.

Thought I’d start a thread so we can all take part in the rumour-mongering and scratch our heads at some of the ridiculous deals we’re bound to see.

I read this morning of a 12 year, 100 million dollar deal headed Marion Hossa’s way from my boys down in Boston.

A deal I hope they do not make, might I add.

I hope your boys make it a 20 year, 200 million dollar deal!

Actually the real question is which ones will head to Russia, now that’s big money!

Whoopdie doo…The Red Wings will land yet another Hall of Fame team, and win another boring Stanley Cup snoozefest.

The NHL I grew up watching died before the strike.

listen to captain cynical pants

If you need a reason to conserve energy, it’s this. These contract offers are only possible with the high gas prices.

Dirty commies stealing our Russian talent back.

Who’s captain cynical pants? Is he a Canadian comic book guy?

Your avatar…gross

I’ve heard rumor of this too. I would love to see Hossa wearing black and gold next season, but not for 12 years/100 million. That’s just silliness.

WTF? Islanders pay Streit ~$5MM/Yr?

I like the guy and I’m happy for him.

At first I was annoyed Montreal let him go, then I heard the contract and I thought, “I’m glad Gainey let him go.”

Also, I’ve heard Ryder signed with Boston, is this true? Another good guy and if its true I think he’ll play well under Jullien.

Sad to see him go, but it’s best for him to leave Montreal and go to a team where he can get more ice time.

Yeah, Ryder signed with Boston.

I think he’ll fit well there too. It IS a little pricey, but that’s what happens on July 1, I mean Jeff Finger has 90 games under his belt in the NHL and got nearly the same.

Retarded.

Hossa to the Red Wings - 1 year, 7.4 milion.

Huh, serious? I need to check out Spector’s page for the latest signings. Just what the WC needs, the best team getting Hossa…

Yes, I was serious.

Thanks for that Big. Man the Penquins are hurting after a great season.

Exactly what the Wings needed, a hungry veteran to replace Dallas Drake. Hopefully the chemistry will be there.

Let the whining commence about the Wings buying their championships, despite half the team being castoffs and high draft picks.

Adding Hossa to Datsyuk and Zetterberg gives the wings three of the best forwards in the league. Resigning Stuart for four years and Lilja for two gives the Wings one of the most solid defenses in the league (Stuart, Lilja, Kronwall, Rafalski and Lidstrom). Conklin should be a nice addition as a back-up for Osgood.

I love the fact that Ken Holland understands salary cap management. Too bad Matt Millen does not.

Hello Satan, are you there?

Could hell have frozen over?

I for once agree with gatesoftanhauser, wholehartedly.

With a sad heart I recognize that the league has gone to shit. My love for the game died when the players love for the game died. I remember when I first came to Canada I stayed up until 2 am on a school night, watching Hockey playoffs on a gifted 12" black and white TV. Despite upgrading out TV to a plasma I haven’t watched a game since the Oilers run.

Whoopdie doo…Free Agent Signing Season isn’t like Christmas at all, indeed it’s all about greed. I bet now that they’re under contract most of these players will have an extra-mediocre year.

What’s next? Maple Leafs win the cup? Nah, MLS brand of hockey has been so anti-climactic and failure prone I still wonder how they manage to sell out the ACC. They’re the Britney Spears of Hockey or CIBC of Canadian Banking.
