In the 2012 playoffs: Out of 10 QBs

Kap had a rating of 100.9 good for 4th out of 10. Flacco, Wilson, and Ryan were higher.
He was tied for 3rd in TDs with 4. Ryan and Flacco higher.
He was 6th in completion %.
He was 2nd in passing yards.
He wa tied for 2nd in INTs.
He was 8th in passing yards per game.

He was 3rd in rushing yards, which is impressive. I thought he didn’t run in the playoffs?

I think Kaps playoff stats are more telling than his regular season stats, but still don’t give us a great picture. He’s an accurate above average QB when healthy. His legs give open up passing oppotunties he’s otherwise not have. I will be convinced he’s great when he plays with a sprained ankle or deep thigh bruise. Something that limits his mobility. If he can maintain these types of numbers then, I’d agree he’s very good.
He gained virtually all of those rushing yards against Green Bay. If they have no clue how to defend the read-option, then why not run it? He had 264 rushing yards in the postseason, which was 3rd in the NFL out of ALL players, but he gained 183 of those against GB.

Passer rating is a bit of a misleading statistic. I prefer total QBR, which is a more accurate statistic since it accounts for the situation in which the stats are accumulated and discounts garbage time stats and that sort of thing.

His QBR in the playoffs was 86.5, just a hair under Matt Ryan’s 86.6 and good for second in the NFL. Flacco was a close third with 83.6, and after that Aaron Rodgers was 4th with a 69.9. Matt Ryan would have had an even better QBR if he hadn’t collapsed completely in the second half of the NFC Championship Game while Kaepernick was putting together long drives strictly with his arm.

Passing yards per game is an irrelevant statistic when it comes to any Niners QB since they throw the ball so much less frequently than other teams in the league. Even though he played in more games than Brady and Schaub, they both had more attempts (94 and 89 vs 80) and even Flacco, who played in one more game than Kaepernick, still attempted 46 more passes than Kaepernick did. Yards per attempt is a more equitable statistic in this sense, and Kaepernick led the NFL in the postseason with 9.98 yards per pass attempt. Wilson was 2nd with 9.23 and Flacco was third with 9.05.
They should run the pistol, it works well for now. Like I said, statistically he’s good, I want to see how he holds up over a full season. Remember he was 100% fresh coming off the bench at a time in the season when players are typically banged up.

He has potential, I’ll give you that.

^ On that note, isnt it awesome how coaching can change things in the NFL.

5 years ago NFC west was as joke, with a few coaching changes they have become (IMO) the strongest division in the NFL.
I think it’s a close between the NFC West, NFC North, and AFC North. You could make the argument for any one of them.
No other division in the NFL has the Defenses that the NFC West has.
It’s a strong division for sure. I still think the AFC North holds the defensive candle. I might be bias though :)
I agree it did with Ravens and Steelers, Browns have been decent and average with the Bungals slightly better. Things have changed.
The Ravens and Steelers shoudl both be stronger on defense this year too. Not so much the Browns and I’m not sure about the Bengels. How was the NFC West’s draft defensively?

Here’s an interesting take on what we were just talking about Derek.

Every team added defensive pieces in the draft but that’s no different than any other division, and more importantly, way too early to say how training camp competitions will shake out.

In light of this, I’d say offseason signings (of established pros) are more meaningful at this point. SEA added two legit pass rushers (Avril was arguably #1 FA DE) and SF brought back their important guys.

And that STL DEF was already sneaky good (4-1-1 divisional record was tops) last year.

What else are we supposed to talk about? Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler’s domestic life? It’s the deadest part of the offseason. Things can get a little hairy this time of year.
Kristin Cavallari? That was sooo 2010.

Really? They aren’t together anymore? Did Cutler dump his jizz in that slut and then bounce on her? If so, that’s the only pocket he’s escaped from in the last several years.

Hey Pat! Whaddya think of this design for a potential new Falcons stadium? I think it’s actually pretty cool, although I still prefer traditional open-air stadiums. I think the 49ers would look really good stomping on Atlanta in a place like this!

Post after post of jock riding for a QB with 10 games as his body of work, who’s surrounded by heaps of talent, and I get called out for thinking the Jets might be a sleeper. Literally you would think Kapyourdick had a bust in Canton at this point but let’s call out beans for having a little fun?

Then to add insult to injury I get my jock ridden by some kid that has never posted here, and then some other kid who never posts here to passive aggressively call me out a couple pages later making up a scenario that didn’t exist?

Awesome
lol, no jock riding here fella. just go back and read what all you and the “new kid” were posting. he seemed to be somewhat knowledgeable happened to be putting some stats to back up why he thought sanchez and the jets suck and will suck next year and you throw a hissyfit because he didnt just go along with your “hunch”. maybe you were having a bad day, maybe thats just how you always post idk.

but youre right i dont post much, usually just lurk passing time at work. wasnt really a call out as much as a poor attempt at some humor(a little sweet brown ref… anybody?).

anyways carry on,

Pretty sure Kap is good enough to just throw himself the ball anyway. Shit they probs don’t even need that OLine either based on what I read here.

Skins over SF for sure now!

Sure makes that Boldin pick up look huge now.
SF still has Manningham dont they?
who knows how their pick from last years first round will have progressed.
I think they will be alright.
It’s a tough break but with a projected time table of 6 months Crabtree could be back before the playoffs.

Yes, it’s a tough break but for a team as complete and balanced as SF I don’t think it will be a huge deal.
With a little deer antler supplementation, it could be sooner than that.

Well, this certainly doesn’t help matters at all, but I think they can definitely weather the storm until he returns. And I expect him to return, probably early December when shit really starts to pick up. I don’t really consider Boldin a legitimate #1 receiver, but I think with him, Manningham, Kyle Williams, Quinton Patton and AJ Jenkins they will have enough firepower for Kaepernick to take advantage of. Vernon Davis is going to have to step up his game, and they really need some significant contributions from their 2nd round pick, TE Vance McDonald.

But they have the talent to overcome something like this. Plenty of teams have shown over the years that you just need to get into the playoffs to have a chance at the Super Bowl. Homefield advantage is overrated, especially for a team like the Niners, who have beaten more good teams on the road the last two years than anyone else in the NFL.

Yeah, but the next SB will be in cold weather so the Niners are screwed even if they get there.

What does cold weather have to do with any of this?

Yeah, but if the cold weather causes a power outage, then the Niners will have an advantage. :stuck_out_tongue:

49ers definitely will lose some regular season games with the loss of Crabtree but they’ll still make a deep playoff run this year and Crabtree should be good to go… albeit a bit rusty.

edit: b/c of this Boldin/Davis should be doing work and put up good numbers, and I can see LaMichael James catching a lot of passes out of the backfield, even temporarily becoming a Sproles-type player this season. I don’t see Kaepernick’s passing stats changed by this injury.

I think it should be interesting to see who will rise out of the WR corps. AJ Jenkins, Quinton Patton, Manningham/K Williams coming off injuries. What’s interesting is Manningham was riffing well with Kaepernick before his injury. I can see them signing a veteran dude like Lloyd because if Boldin gets injured, this is one young WR corps.
