I doubt it. The division is going to suck except for the Broncos again.

Smith has played very well these past two seasons and he handled the switch the Kap like a real pro and a good teammate. I wish him success in KC. Hopefully he at least beats the Chargers twice a year lol.

Curious to see what SF does with the picks. We’ll have 15 picks this draft and there is no way 15 players even have a shot to make the roster. I hope they can package some of those picks and move up in the draft.
Pats have 5 picks, I feel some movement.
I think they’ll try to package some picks together, probably with a significant amount of cash as well, to land Revis. With 15 picks they’ve got about 7 or 8 that they simply don’t need. There just isn’t room on the team for that many rookies next year. Such are the pitfalls of having a shitload of picks when you’re already stacked.

Personally, I don’t like the idea of trading for Revis all that much. He’s probably only going to be around for one year and I’d be surprised if it took less than the pick they just landed from KC to get Revis.

The 49ers need to try and turn their 15 picks into something more like 6 or 7 picks within the first 5 rounds, with as many as possible in the first three rounds. That will be tough to pull off. As it stands right now, if they kept all their picks from the first three rounds they’ll have the 31st pick, the 34th, 63rd and then two in the third round. There’s a lot of quality players they can get with those that will fill needs. They need defensive tackles and defensive backs badly and the draft is reasonably deep at those positions. But they are in a position where they’d be best off with guys who can step right in and play rather than reach for guys who might need a year or two to develop, especially after last year’s disastrous draft (not one player from that draft made a single start for them this year and most of them didn’t play at all).

I think what would be better for them is to simply trade away as many picks between rounds 4 and 7 as it takes to get a couple early 2nd and 3r round picks. They now have 9 picks between rounds 4 and 7 so I think it might be possible to turn those 9 picks into another 2nd and another 3rd round pick. That would give them 7 total picks in the draft, but they’d all be in the first three rounds. That will be hard to pull off, but I’m sure they’re thinking along these lines in the hopes that they can find a high quality cornerback, safety AND defensive tackle with those picks.

Also, every indication has been that they will let Dashon Goldson walk, which I think will end up giving them a compensatory pick in next year’s draft and save them from having to shell about 7 or 8 million per year for a VERY overrated free safety. The savings from that would also allow them to sign more quality draft picks OR it could give them the flexibility to add Revis’ contract to the payroll.

49rs would be smart to dump the picks for Revis and the Jets would be smart to do it.

I donno the niners have a chance to get completely stacked with great depth with all those picks. I’d keep them if I were them. They can stack tall and deep for years to come.

Besides I damn sure don’t want the Jet’s to have all those picks.

How? Its a 53 man roster and they are already young at most positions, they have some cap room but no way they can sign all those guys.

No chance those players could make the team.

The Niners only had 3 rookies sniff the field last year and that was for a total of less than 100 plays combined.

Most of those picks would be wasted because there just isn’t spots available for those guys.

Heck, SF could have 15 picks in the first 3 rounds and wouldn’t have spots for all those players.

You mean you don’t want them to draft some obscure linebacker that you’ve never heard of from Tiajuana A&M??

We gave up far too much for Smith. The 34th overall pick and a 3rd which could become a 2nd. He is not worth that at all. I think swapping 3rds and giving up a 4th would have been appropriate. It doesn’t seem like we were in a bidding war either. The 49ers rode us to the bank.
I couldn’t disagree with this more. Alex Smith is a proven NFL Quarterback. Top 15 in the league for sure and maybe top ten. There’s no way the 34th and a 3rd rounder comes anywhere close in value. The Cheifs rode us to the bank.

I sincerely hope you are right, but I do tend to be pretty pessimistic when it comes to my sports teams. It entirely depends whether we get the Alex Smith of the last two years or of before that. At least he won’t turn the ball over non stop like the idiots last year. That coupled with our run game should lead to 6-7 wins.

You might only get 6-7 wins but Smith has proven if he gets a team that can play he can get the job done

I don’t know about the rest of this mock draft, but I can pretty much guarantee that the 49ers don’t take a nose tackle in the first round. They might take a guy who can play nose tackle AND defensive end in a 3-4, but I highly, highly doubt they will take a pure nose tackle like Jenkins in the first. He may have played some end in college, but in the NFL he’ll be strictly a nose tackle.

The reason I say this is because they play a lot of nickel and dime defenses since teams consistently look to spread them out and put 3 or 4 receivers on the field, since running on them is extremely foolhardy. When they put in an extra defensive back or two the first guy off the field is the nose tackle. I don’t think Isaac Sopoaga played even 50% of their defensive snaps last year.

So I doubt they’ll use a first round pick on a guy who, even if he is a very capable player from Day One, won’t even be on the field half the time. I think they’re much more likely to go with a guy like Sharrif Floyd (if he falls that far) or Sheldon Richardson or Kawann Short who can play nose tackle and still slide over to the end position when offenses put in an extra receiver or two.

Totally agree. They just don’t have 15 spots on their roster. They’re already stacked and deep for years to come.

What they need now is to turn those potential 15 picks into far fewer picks, but picks where they can get guys who can step in and address what few weaknesses they had last year. Any pick in the draft that ends up on the practice squad or as a training camp cut is a wasted pick, plain and simple. And with something like three picks in the 7th and two each in the 5th and 6th, the reality is that if they actually kept all their picks, several of them won’t even be on the roster next year, period.

Shit, if they could turn every pick they have between rounds 5 and 7 (which I think is going to be a total of 7 picks between those three rounds) into two picks above the 5th, they’d be smart to do so.

^^i agree that they probably won’t take a DT with their first round pick but I wouldn’t be upset if they did.

Their top needs IMO, and in this order, are DB-DL-WR.
