NFL Draft

I know we all love it, but honestly is the draft that exciting for the first 2 rounds. When we already know where every player is going for the last 2 weeks?
no but if your team lost 10+ games there isn’t much else to look forward to!

Generally I would agree, but the Raiders have tried to draft linemen early in the recent past – they just picked the wrong ones. And on D-Line they’ve been filling on monster free agents such as Ted Washington and Warren Sapp (and their D is actually pretty good… kind of like the Bears in the very early 80s):

Not perfect, but they’ve definitely drafted some big fellas. More to the point, a lot of those draftees (big fellas and otherwise) haven’t panned out – Al Davis needs to quit influencing the decisions.

Which is a problem overall. Their problem lately has been ownership interfering with coaching. And as a franchise, they can hardly be put on the same plane as Arizona and Detroit – Oakland was a powerful team in the late 90s and early 00’s, including a SuperBowl appearance in '02. They were middle of the pack in '03, and have only truly stunk for 3 years now.

I’m still scratching my head over why Robert Gallery hasn’t panned out. When an OL or DL is just physically dominant in a major BCS conference, they generally step right in and play well in the NFL.

Gallery was like a man-amongst-boys at Iowa, yet he’s just been mediocre at Oakland. I actually thought the Gallery pick was a really good one.

I remember when he was at Iowa and Will Smith was a DE at Ohio State, and Gallery just totally bent him over. He just destroyed Smith.

Then Will Smith goes on to become a pretty good DE for the Saints, and Gallery is just average for the Raiders. Go figure.

I think Joe Thomas is in the same boat, and that Detriot is going to regret passing him over for yet another WR.

I’m still LMAO over the Raiders picking a K in the 1st round a few years ago! Unless that boy can boot 80 yard FG’s, there’s no reason to pick a K in the 1st round! Hahaha!

Niners are my team.

We need help on the D Line. I think Adam Carriker is a good pick at 11. I think this position is a bit high for AC, but he fits in good with the Niners D. He’s a big dude (6’6, 295) and has speed and power.

Personally, I would LOVE to see the Niners draft Patrick Willis, that would be sweet. He played most of last year with a broken hand and a huge cast on it, imagine what he can do if he is healthy.
I’m a Niners and Texans fan, and I soooo wanted SF to take Carriker.

When OU played Nebraska in the Big XII title game last December, Carriker and Jay Richardson single handedly shut down OU’s offense for about two quarters. Between OU’s second TD, and right up until OU’s 99 yard TD drive in the 3rd QTR, Carriker and Richardson just blew away OU’s offense. OU had like one yard of offense in that period.

OU would run the ball, and get blown up in the backfield or they’d pass it, and Thompson would get sacked or flushed out of the pocket. Carriker and Richardson did most of that by themselves.

Carriker was 6’6", 295, and had the same 20 yd shuttle time as Anthony Gonzalez, an Ohio State WR 100 lbs lighter than him. His lateral quickness is incredible!

Willis is pretty good too, but I really, really wanted SF to take Carriker.

I agree, Carriker seemed a better pic, but SF did a good job moving up to get Joe Staley, I am hoping Kalil falls to the Raiders right now.
