NFL 2013

What’s your take on Russell Wilson’s success so far Derek? Seems like he has 2 out of the 3 qualities you mention, but can a guy that short really succeed long term in the NFL? (I agree with your take on Manziel btw.)
Wilson is very thick, look at his lower body, he has the ability to take a hit, ALSO he does not look to get hit. He will slide or duck out of bounds, he is a very smart kid, with a strong arm. There are always going to be outliers and Wilson is one of those.

If he wins a SB it will be because of that D and balanced running game.

Good kid played minor league BB so gave him some insight into being a pro.

I think people would have been surprised by Cleveland this week as Gordon was coming back, TRich, and Cameron were out there but now it’s shit. They are picking up McGahee though (who is a great pass catcher if I recall)
Reports are that the Browns got the call from Indy though and just considered the 1st rounder too good to pass up for above mentioned reasons(primarily that Rich just doesn’t fit their vision of the offense). Nobody has said they were shopping Rich, but when push came to shove Indy wanted a replacement back this week, and that means the Browns didn’t have time to evaluate the offense with Gordon on the field(and Weeden off of it). Also, Gordon doesn’t fix the right side of the line.

Richardson is going to thrive with the Colts, Pep Hamilton wants to run the ball and we just didn’t have the horse to do it. I’d love to see him get 8-12 carries Sunday but doubt it’ll happen.

Schefter already reported that the Colts said he will play. Like you said i’m sure he will be limited, but my guess is that if they get down to the goal line they will give him the ball.

No way shape or form Johnny football makes the NFL game
He has a better arm and is more athletic than Geno Smith, EJ Manuel, Cam Newton, Brandon Weeden, Josh Smith, Blain Gabbert… I could go on.

With the way the league is now, it’s designed for a guy like him. He just needs a coach who can reign him in a little bit.

The kid will definitely get a shot in the league.
No. Just dont see it

and who in that group has won a SB?

Until a “mobile” running QB wins the SB I just dont see it.
I guess you must have missed the Super Bowls that Steve Young and Brett Favre won.
Steve Young was mobile yes, BUT he only developed after his better Montana showed him how to work in the pocket.

Favre really?

Dont be difficult DB you know as well as I that both Young and Favre were pass first and scramble QB’s. The new wave of QB is a read option running QB and until they win a SB I will not have faith in them.
I’m not exactly an NFL expert, but the Favre comment had me scratching my head as well.
Well, when Derek said “mobile” I assumed he meant “mobile”. Young was mobile and he won a Super Bowl. Although he didn’t really blossom until he got better from the pocket, he was still a pretty frequent scrambler back then. The 49ers used designed runs all the time to get Young out of the pocket and on the run, even the year they won the Super Bowl with him. They especially used a lot of naked bootlegs. Anyone who thinks that Young had abandoned his running ability by the time he won a ring as a starter simply didn’t watch him play back then.

I laugh at the assertion that Montana taught Young how to operate in the pocket. Montana wasn’t teaching Young shit when they played together. Montana was beyond competitive and never did anything to help Young develop as a QB. Young was brought in to replace Montana back in 1987 when Montana was coming back from a pair of bad injuries and Walsh thought he might be done. Besides, by the time Young really established himself as a great passer, Montana was already in KC.

Montana was also an extremely mobile QB who operated as well outside of the pocket as he did in it. Shit, even the most famous play he was ever involved in, The Catch, was a called rollout designed to get him out of the pocket and moving with the ball. Honestly, I can’t even believe I didn’t originally put him in my list. He was more mobile than Favre and ran all the time even when they were winning titles. He ran for a touchdown in the 1981 Super Bowl and he ran for 20 touchdowns in his career.

Brett Favre was another extremely mobile QB who operated quite well and quite frequently out of the pocket. I’ve only seen him fuck the Niners in the ass in the playoffs about 54 times on plays where he used his mobility to get outside of the pocket and make plays with his arm OR his legs. The guy could flat out run with the ball, but he wasn’t a “running” QB. But that doesn’t matter because Derek said “mobile”, not run-first.

The bottom line is that Montana, Favre and Young are three perfect examples of QBs who were anything but strictly pocket passers who won Super Bowls. Aaron Rodgers is another extremely mobile QB who makes a lot of plays with his arm and his legs outside of the pocket and who has a ring.

I’m sorry, but if you think there aren’t any extremely mobile QBs with rings who made a ton of plays outside of the pocket, then you simply haven’t watched enough football.

The Chiefs are already a third of the way from my projection of their wins. Their defense looks stout.

All those first round picks starting to produce!

From 2-14 to 3-0… That’s quite the turn around.

Looks like the Niners are going to get another 2nd round pick from the Chiefs in the next draft.

They had the players last year, they just had some bad luck and just an off year. Alex Smith is doing the opposite of what Matt Cassel and Brady Quinn did for them last year, not turn the ball over.

Overall very pleased with KC so far. Offense was a bit turgid last night particularly in the red zone. For the number of turnovers we had and some excellent field position 1 TD on offense isn’ t going to cut it against the big boys. Still can’t complain too much, Smith is playing efficient turnover free football and the defense is playing lights out. Justin Houston could be heading for a defensive MVP level of campaign.

Andy is no not ready for prime time player.

Besides adipose tissue he does have some experience under his belt. A lot of experience.
The dark green and black colors of the Eagles were “so” slimming on Reid. The bright Red makes him look huge haha

Donnie Avery looked really good last night too. I thought Bowe would really benefit from having Smith there but I’m thinking maybe it’s the WR2 and 3s that will. Bowe is a deep threat and as DB has said many times, Smith is not a deep threat QB…

Yeah, Smith isn’t going to throw it into the type of coverage that Bowe will be receiving constantly.

The first week when I saw reid in his ginormous red shirt I yelled kool aid at the tv. That chip kelly offense was looking shitty last night. Also I thought vick could have pulled the ball and got a couple first downs but I figure they don’t wanna risk his health this early. Might I add I called the chiefs to be dope this year! Pulling for a jets win on sunday this game can be either really boring or two young qbs running and gunning. Cincy and GB should be a good game.

Indy will fare better now taking the load solely off of luck but will not be good enough to beat the niners. Maybe next year they will seriously contend. Last year was a good indicator that they can make the playoffs. Who you guys liking for the houston baltimore game. Should be a close one

You already have chosen the Colts to go to the Super Bowl?

Negatory I think they may contend in upcoming years if they get some wr’s and better corners ect. Theres a few teams where their window of opportunity is closing I think that the colts time is beginning now. For example green bay, niners, texans, pats, falcons, broncos, have been able to contend for the past few years. Some of them are in better situations this year then others but they were serious contenders for a considerable amount of time especially in the terms of the league being NOT FOR LONG. Nice pic by the way looking huge
