I know there are a number of NFL fans who dont want the “Redskins” name removed but I can see how it can be viewed as a derogratory name. If native Americans had an civil organization like the NAACP, this wouldnt even be an arguement. What are yalls thoughts on the name? Should the Redskins name be removed?

I think it is still very unclear what the majority of native americans think about the name. There have been a couple instances where Native Americans have defended team names, the FSU Seminoles and the Fighting Sioux in one of the Dakotas as a proud representation of their warrior history, but white people still fight it in the name of political correctness.

I think the difference there is that Seminole refers to a Native American from a Florida Tribe and Sioux describes a Native American in the Great Sioux Nation, while redskin by definition is an offensive term and racial descriptor. I am not saying I agree with changing the name (I am not a Native American so I really do not feel like I should have a say) I just thought I would put that out there.

Yeah. I do get that. There is a rather large thread in PWI about this. At least on of the Native Americans on this forum says he doesn’t want to see it changed and that he was a fan of the Redskins. Outside of that I really don’t have very many Native American acquaintances to try to gauge their opinions on the matter. I guess I am just sick of the PC assault and find it incredibly annoying.

I’m sad it even made it’s way in here. It’s the most annoying, media driven debate outside of Brett Favre’s “retirement”

Sorry, but it is extremely agitating especially when the media then wants to attribute the failures of the team to the distractions of the name change- really? These guys are so distraught about the name that they can’t go play? I doubt it…

1 - its true the Rams play both SEA and SF tough, but that’s also the case in nearly all divisional matchups between teams that “know” each other well. (ie. NYJ vs NE, all those NFC East matchups about a decade ago when 13-10 as final score was always in play, and so on)

2 - SEA’s road struggles and west coast teams playing the early sun games (10am for their bodyclock) are well-documented. But SEA has never been legit championship contenders like they are now. Nor is their sole road loss (at IND) a bad one. But none of this matters anyway if they end up having zero road games in the NFC bracket.

In 2/15ths Native American and I approve of the Redskins team name. It is not offensive.

Discussion over.

I say change the name if the people who are supposed to be offended by it agree on it. Would be a waste of time to vote on such a thing, or donate portions of profit to organizations that help the poor in their communities while keeping the name. If they already do that it’s cool. I think whites shouldn’t use other cultures or likeness for profit it is out dated way of making money, without that culture getting a cut from it.

A local dj from around these parts got a local football team to change it’s name from the redskins, and my town is the centre of PC NESS, affirmative action is in full effect because they assume us white guys have connections already to make money and what not. So it goes a bit to far I would agree because PC ness discriminates against poor whites.
I think in general they should start giving better access to resources to those who want to better themselves regardless of their race. We are treating the symptoms of racism and not racism its self, which is getting alot better but still exists and probably in some form will for generations after us. Until were absorbed into browness lol. But yeah I say the first nations should have the say because if it were the other way around that they dominated the government and power, whites would be mad they made teams with reference to their skin colour.

Dude, we paid Haynesworth and McNabb, haven’t we suffered enough? Not to mention I occasionally have had to watch Sexy Rexy(Grossman).

I think the name of the Redskins is the least screwed up thing about this team.

Jesus Christ guys, this isn’t the thread for this…

Anyway, football talk. Did anyone notice how awesome it would have been if Tate was tackled and/or fumbled the ball after acting like a DBag on the touchdown catch?

RG3 is offending me more than the name of Redskins ever will…throwing like a damn idiot, blew the game. I nearly punched a hole in my living room wall. Had to turn the game off and do something else before it turned violent in my house.

Tate pulled a manziel lol. I liked how the coach told him to cut that shit out. So apparently gonzalez is now open for a trade but the team is not down to do so. Sucks he is the best te of all time it would be niice if he had a last shot for the sb.

I can’t believe no one has mentioned the elephant in the room yet. Dez Baby Brant lol. Some one get him a soother sucker ass dummy.

Pulled a TO diva move wahhhhhhhhhhhhh

I heard him talking to Romo during one of those NFL SoundBits things, during the last game, and he goes

“WE THE BEST IN THE NFL AT THAT DEEP BALL”

I dunno about that.

Not even close haha. Williams (tied 23rd) has 7 catches over 20 yards and Bryant (tied 31) only has 6. Romo is also 11th in the league for yards per attempt.

Lol I get that he was trying to hype his team up, but going after them during and after the game made him look like an idiot. Yeah he started the whole ordeal by saying he is better than megatron which isn’t the case. Megatron is, any way you wanna order it, top 3 for wr position of all time.

Rice Moss Megatron, I think ultimately Mega surpasses moss in whatever areas he still leads in because he will play hopefully just as long or longer than, That shits dog food Moss.lol. Also I think that aj green may be capable of reaching such levels he is essentially a cheetah in a football outfit.

There was a pretty good convo with Cris Carter on Mike and Mike today about where Megatron stands versus the best WRs to play the game.

I’ll check that out. I saw last night they ran down all the records he currently has, he is impressive as hell I like his build as well better than any wide outs he’s tall and jacked. I think the size mixed with athleticism gives him the edge on everyone. That is obvious though every highlight he’s towering over 3 defenders while they seemingly climb him and he still makes the play.

Yeah Cris Carter was talking about how it is very hard to run routes as a tall guy (something having to do with the length of the limbs) but Calvin, despite being 6’4", runs routes like he is 5’10".

That shit drives me bonkers especially when it results in a 15-yard flag. I suspect there was some shit talking on both sides that lead to that and he got sucked in. Potential excuses aside, that was some stupid shit.
