NFL 2012

Who do you guys like for the HOF next year? It looks like quite the field. Notables at each position include:

QB: Steve McNair, Randall Cunningham, Drew Bledsoe, Ron Jaworski and Phil Simms
RB: Jamal Anderson, Roger Craig, Jerome Bettis, Larry Centers (FB), Terrell Davis, Ricky Watters, Eddie George
WR: Tim Brown, Cris Carter, Keyshawn Johnson, Henry Ellard, Andre Reed, Sterling Sharpe
OL: Jonathan Ogden, Larry Allen, Tony Boselli, Will Shields, Erik Williams, Steve Wisniewski
DL: Bryant Young, Charles Haley, Too-Tall Jones, Warren Sapp, Michael Strahan
DB: John Lynch, Steve Atwater, Eric Allen, Darren Woodson, Aeneas Williams
LB: Kevin Greene, Clay Mathews, Karl Mecklenburg, Sam Mills
Kickers/punters: Morten Anderson, Gary Anderson, Nick Lowery, Sean Landetta (P)
Coaches: Bill Cowher, Tom Flores, Jimmy Johnson, Bill Parcells, Dan Reeves, Marty Schottenheimer, Dick Vermeil
Others: Eddie DeBartolo, Jr., Robert Kraft, Art Modell, Steve Sabol, Paul Tagliabue, Bill Polian, Bud Adams, Jr.

I think a lot of these guys could get in, but I especially think Roger Craig, Charles Haley, Jerome Bettis, Tim Brown, Cris Carter, Jonathan Ogden, Larry Allen, Wisniewski, Warren Sapp, Michael Strahan, Jimmy Johnson, Bill Parcells, Eddie Debartolo, Jr., Art Modell and Steve Sabol all belong.

I think you could make a case for Bryant Young, Phil Simms, Andre Reed, John Lynch, Eric Allen, Kevin Greene, Sam Mills and maybe Bill Cowher as well, but I don’t think they’re on the level as the above-mentioned.

I’m talking about the personal foul call on the Ravens’ Paul Kruger on the final drive of the game. What a complete joke. It was just a flop.

The replacement refs would’ve let it go and rightfully so.
yup huge flop. but they call that all the time so at least the normalcy is there.

Granted the guy on the Browns flopped, but what was the point of the Ravens player pushing him down when the game should have been over. Go celebrate with your teammates rather than get in the face of the other team. Just a bonehead move.

Pretty great list, I’ll narrow it down per position but any three would be tough to do.

QB: Phil Simms
RB: Roger Craig
WR: Andre Reed (Crazy how good those Bills teams really were)
OL: Tony Boselli (For Max)
DL: Charles Haley
DB: Steve Atwater
LB: Clay Mathews
Kickers/punters: Sean Landetta
Coaches: Dick Vermeil
Others: Steve Sabol

What kind of got under my skin about the MNF game, other than the horrible calls/non-calls at the end of the game, was all the whining GB did. The reality is that they should never have even been in position to lose on the final drive in the first place. Forget about how the drive was aided by the refs and then they just gave them the TD; it never should have been that close to begin with as far as GB should be concerned.

GB didn’t play well and as mediocre as they’ve looked so far, it’s not a talent issue but simply due to the fact that they don’t have very many pistons firing at the same time right now. If they came out and played a really good, solid game on both sides of the ball they win that game by 10 points at least. But they looked like shit on offense, and give Seattle credit since they have a legit D and played well, but GB has an elite offense that should be clicking better than it is right now with all their weapons at hand.
Can’t argue about Green Bay’s offense under-performing thus far. It’s been pretty spectacularly disappointing and truthfully, bewildering, as a fan to see their lack of efficiency so far this season. Rodgers just looks lost. I have seen and read a lot of stuff, however, about defense putting two safeties over top to limit the number of big, down-the-field plays from the passing attack. Defensive coordinators did their homework this off-season, as Green Bay led the league easily with long passing plays down the field. Rodgers is a great and accurate deep-ball QB, undoubtedly. I know he can adjust to the mid-range passing attack, as he’s gotten comfortable settling with check downs this season.

I can and will assert, however, that playing three fairly stout defenses in the first three weeks makes things look much uglier than they appear. A quick glance at the schedule will indicate things may soften up a touch in the coming weeks, so we’ll see how that trickles. Although I’m a Pack fan, I loathe the pass-happy NFL of today, and love physical teams that give their RBs 20-30 touches a game. McCarthy is a coach who actually really likes a balanced offense, though I can’t blame him for trying to play to his teams’ strengths. That being said, while Cedric Benson is certainly no Ray Rice, Arian Foster, or AP, he’s a serviceable back who’s good for 350+ touches in a season, and I think his potential impact is starting to be realized. Plus, it’s nice to have someone more consistent than the Notre Dame idiot we had to deal with in recent years, who appeared to just simply not be very interested in trying from one game to the next. Now all we have to do is teach Jermichael Finley how to catch AND retain the ball consistently, and we may have an offense once again. :S

For the record, the defense is playing immensely well outside of the 49ers game, and I think are performing as well as anyone in the NFL right now. They’re still tinkering with a lot of their rotations and personnel, but are looking more similar to the 2010 defense at this point, rather than the 2011 defense, which is a relief to say the least. Having a healthy Tramon Williams back in much more important than I would have imagined.

I agree almost 100% with your picks, actually. It’s a freaking crime that Tim Brown, and even more so Cris Carter, aren’t HOF’ers yet. AFAIC Cris Carter should have been a 100% lock for a first-ballot HOF’er… and that’s coming from a Vikings hater.

If I had to pick my “personal” mandatories for next year, I’d say…
Bettis
Brown + Carter
Ogden + Allen
Sapp + Strahan
Lynch
Johnson + Parcells
Modell + Sabol

There’s some additional coaches and players that are undoubtedly outstanding, and I tend to have the misfortune of being a younger fan so I can’t appreciate some of the other players elligible. Vermeil and Cowher should be strong considerations soon, if not this year as well, and Robert Kraft as well.

I hope that someday Sterling Sharpe will make it, but I find it tough to believe realistically this will happen.

Morten and Gary Anderson will have their time some day as well… just not yet.

QB: Phim Simms
RB: Craig
WR: Sterling Sharpe(probably a biased call by what the hell)
OL: Larry Allen, no question
DL: Michael Strahan
LB: Kevin Greene
Kickers: I guess Nick Lowery
Coaches: Bill Cowher
Others: Steve Sabol no question

Man I just don’t know about Kevin Greene.

He was a journeyman, in the league for a long time, dependable when healthy, pretty brutal part of a linebacking corps in Pittsburg…

Yeah. He’s deserving as well, linebackers are a tough call.

Also, how crazy is it that Clay Matthews III is coached by a HOF nominee who is in competition with his Dad.

I’ll go by positions too:
QB: McNair

RB: Craig, 1st 1000yd rusher/receiver in a season. Was noted for his dual threat.

WR: Carter, All the man does is catch touchdowns. Rice has said he has the best hands in football.

OL: Ogden, Saw Ogden as a rookie guard dominate 49ers DT Dana Stubblefield. Stubblefield was in his prime. One of the best OTs I’ve ever seen with Walter Jones.

DL: Haley, Only player with 5 Super Bowl Rings. The reason Dallas has the first two rings in the 90s. Coach Jimmy Johnson said without Haley we would not have had that first SB. He changed how our defense played (Also said if the 49ers had started Joe Montana instead of Steve Young in the title game, my young team would have been intimidated by Joe Cool, and we would have lost)

LB: Greene

K: Anderson, Changed the way New Orleans operated on offense. In the dome, all they had to do was get to the opposing 40yd line and they were a threat for points. Most touchbacks I’ve ever seen by a kicker.

Coaches: Johnson and Parcells, the reason why my 49ers don’t have at least 3 more Super Bowls. Beat them in 3 NFC title games. If not for free agency and the injury to offensive tackle Erik Williams, Dallas would have won 3 Super Bowls in a row.

Debartolo: Great owner and fan of his team. Gave the great Bill Walsh a chance. I always joke he is one of the main reasons, if not the main reason why we have a salary cap.

not as crazy as his dad not already being in the HOF

Texans look legit

Cream of the crop right now, easily. I will -never- be sold on ATL until I see they can win (ONE) playoff game. Time will tell.

Pack are imploding. A blown call by the Refs for a Jimmy Graham “catch” (I didn’t realize balls were allowed to touch the ground when making a catch. Interesting.) Stupid penalties prolonging the Saints’ drive, and a big turnover in the redzone by Graham Harrell. And now A-Rodg just threw an INT. Terrific.

Yikes, holding on for dear life. A 1-3 start would not be ideal.

I still wish they would had either A) Kept Flynn or B) traded for McCoy. Both fit the offense well imo.

Pass rush is looking pretty good. Coverage is always in flux.

I know there is always a team someone says this about but its hard to see them with a L this season. The defense is just stupid tight. Foster and Tate is the best RB combo in football. Johnson and Daniels can cover the damn field.
pushharder wrote:
Watching Pack/Saints game. Union refs yea! Good thing they’re back. The calls are incredibly accurate.

Yea the Pack fans in the fan were not happy. The refs probably received the biggest standing ovation out of any other game this week and it turned around on them real quick.

Burp.
RGIII plays like a QB that’s been in the league for years.

He’s nuts. Did a fantasy draft in Madden today and HAD to take him.

I’ve heard a lot of people compare RGIII and Luck to the Tortoise and the Hare, though.

Regardless, I’d take either. Glad both are looking like good, legitimate Franchise QBs for the future.

Yeah but RGIII still has a long way to go to get to Vick’s level.

There’s not a better football game to watch than one where the Eagles beat the Giants.

Fly Eagles.

He’s light years ahead of Vick :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: , honestly, his ability to manage a game and make smart reads/throws is amazing. I really wonder how Weeks 2 and 3 would have turned out with real refs. Both games he was moving the ball down the field with little time on the clock. Needs to learn when to slide though.

They’ve been saying this is the 1st time he’s ever had a playbook (none in HS or college), unreal.
