My 49ers will hopefully go 10-6 but be better than last years 13-3 team. Too many hard road games; GB, NYJ, NO and NE to even get close to that.
Make no mistake: this year’s NFC West is as WIDE OPEN as any division in the entire league.

I’m sorry, but that article was TOO DAMN LONG. Give me the negatives in 4 paragraphs or less.
I’m hoping my team will be better, but there certainly are flaws that must be fixed.
To name 3 off the top of head:
1)Red zone offense
2)Pass defense
3)Pass offense

Ok fine, I actually will summarize it for ya. I suppose that’s only fair given what I posted re: Sanchize (via Greg Cosell’s coaching tape analysis) in the 2010 version of this thread.
per Barnwell: 1) # of wins is unsustainable - “…there are simply too many things that have to go right for a team to repeatedly put up 13-3 seasons.” 2) turnover differential is unsustainable - see article for data 3) (superlow) INT rate is unsustainable - “It’s a catch-22. If the Niners stay with their old scheme, Moss and Manningham will mostly be useless. And if they expand their offense to take more shots downfield to their new weapons, Smith is going to take more risks and see his interception rate shoot back up to where it once was. You can’t expect Smith to simultaneously integrate Moss and Manningham into the offense and keep his interception rate low. He just doesn’t have that sort of ability.” 4) fumble rec rate is unsustainable - “Forcing fumbles is a skill, but recovering them is mostly a random act.” See article for data 5) injuries - “The Niners aren’t due to suffer a rash of injuries in 2012 – that’s the gambler’s fallacy – but the randomness of injuries suggests that they’re extremely unlikely to be as healthy this upcoming season.” 6)schedule - already discussed
Barnwell’s concluding remark: As constructed, the Niners will find it extremely difficult to be an elite team year-in and year-out. When everything goes right for a team like San Francisco, you get 2011. When some of those things go wrong, you get 2012.
Im looking forward to today’s preseason games. I know Green Bay has open slots for the taking on defense. The top picks like Nick Perry and Casey Howard are turning heads and expected to gain starting spots. I dont expect a top 10 defense this year but we certainly cant be any worse.

I am looking for the engagement of Julio Jones as our top WR. I am looking forward to Matty’s supposedly revamped and much stronger arm. And I am looking forward to a much more aggressive defense spearheaded by Asante Samuel and Spoony… Go Falcons!

You poor bastard. Your hopes rely on Asante “I dropped the interception that would have given me and my team eternal glory, and smiled about it, even though it hit me in the hands, because I don’t actually care about football, I’m here for the money, get paid” Samuel?

No, my hopes rely on Ryan, the O-line and the receiving core. Samuel has been a great addition so far, and has added an edge to our defense that has been lacking, but Witherspoon is the main guy on the defense.

As a 49er faithful, I did read the whole article. I like to get other people’s point of view. I agree, he made some valid points. But hey, that’s why they play the game, anything can happen.

Ryan Matthews gets breaks his clavicle on his first carry, here we go again…
Exhibit A for why its ALWAYS best to draft as late as possible.
Not even one week ago, both Mathews and the rookie Richardson were in that rare (and vanishing) breed of legit workhorse backs… and not like this will be the biggest injury of the preseason neither.

Been in meetings and doing time sheets for all morning first I heard about driving home.

Weird but we need a legit #3
I dont think Jones is interested enough nor will pay what Plax wants. But like you said Derek, yall could use a solid #3. It certainly would be a great oppurtunity for Plax though. His days are numbered.
The officaiting was pretty poor last night in the SD/GB game. From what Ive read and heard it didnt go well in the others as well. I hope this lockout is concluded by the start of the regular season.

From what I heard Richardson should be ready for the opener. Matthews will probably miss two regular season games. I wonder how this affects his fantasy draft stock. Chargers have three other backs that I think will all get work.
Its official. Fantastic. We may now have a mediocre running game this year. It will certainly keep the defense guessing. Now to fix the laughable coverage…
