This looks like it’s really excellent.

I plan on making a Draft Thread guys any suggestions on when?
Just make an NFL offseason thread. There will be plenty to talk about between FA, mini camps, and the draft. Then we can start NFL 2012 when training camp rolls around.

Only thing was last year during the draft we kind of had good discussion going as the draft was going on.

But I do like that suggestion myself.

it won an oscar. that was the first i’d heard of it.

If Hines Ward plays for either the Bengals or Ravens this year I will burn my #86 pro bowl jersey, no joke, Browns I could care less, irrelevent.

I’ll miss you Hines but don’t be a douche.

Aaron Smith will be missed, one of my all-time favorite Steelers. Prototype 3-4 end, one of the best.

Kemo was also released, that should be twenty or thirty less holding/unsportsman like calls against the 0-line next year. However the way they go through linemen he’ll probably be back sometime next season.

Farrior might be next. Not sure how I feel about that one, watching him in coverage the last two seasons was brutal.

Farrior’s gone.

EDIT: I could care less who Hines plays for this season. He’s hanging onto a game that passed him by a year ago. If the Steelers had kept him, next year he’d be back on the bread line, begging for one more year. He’s not the kind of guy to quit. He’ll play until nobody will pay him to do it, and even then he’d probably offer to play for free.

There has been a ton of talk around Pittsburgh radio as to whether or not Hines is Hall-worthy. Personally, I think he’s borderline. He’s easily the most physically brutal receiver to ever strap on a helmet, but I don’t know what that buys you.

Aaron Smith is another guy that had nothing left in the tank. He should have retired instead of forcing the Steelers to pull the trigger on him.

Farrior I’m torn on. Even at 37 he was a solid defender against the run. His pass coverage skills deteriorated a good deal, but a lot of the time I saw him getting burned this past season it was against guys that no LB is going to cover successfully (Vernon Davis, Ray Rice, etc). That’s a scheme issue, not a personnel issue. I still think he had something to offer, but in the end just proved too expensive.

Kemo? Good fucking riddance. Outside of being decent at pulling and getting in the way, he was the weak spot on the OL this year. Legursky should have been the starting LG all year, but Pouncey was hurt so often that Legs was always at C.

I have a Facebook friend who is a Steelers fan and is going ballistic over the cuts over the past few days, especially Ward. I don’t give a shit about the Steelers, but it’s funny to watch this guy melt down.

Steel Nation: why do you think Hines is a borderline HOF candidate? I’d think he’d be a shoo-in. One of the few to reach 1000 receptions (even though that is more common these days), plus a Super Bowl MVP. Other things on his resume that shouldn’t be discounted are his dancing championship and the fact that he was the only guy to outrun an exploding field in the new Batman movie. No one else has those credentials!

Until Chris Carter gets voted in, I’m not sure I can call any receiver a shoe-in. Randy Moss and TO probably both should be, but I see voters having immense bias against them despite their numbers, and all the current dominating receivers are still young in their careers so while you certainly project Fitz/Megatron/AJ to eventually get there, it’s hardly a shoe-in yet.

I don’t see Ward making the hall, I mean he was never a 1st team all pro, and went to 4 pro-bowls in 14 seasons(pro-bowl is like… top 8 receivers?). His candidacy is basically entirely based on the intangible ‘tough’ receiver label.

Hines Ward imo is not HOF worthy. He’ll get the feel good story votes, he’ll get the tough bloker/S.O.B. votes but the skill votes will be few. As Red posted, the numbers don’t add up.

To be HOF worthy you have to be exceptional at your position, DOMINATE it, not do really well at it. He didn’t. Damn good though.

Carter should eventually get in, he deserves it more than Hines…kinda, he is after all a douche and won’t get the good guy votes Ward will. Those sideline catches were amazing, he made it look easy. No rings though.

I also think Andre Reed is or was a better reciever than Ward. No rings of course.

I reserve the right to have my judgement clouded over time…

Have you watched the kid play (not being a smartass; I mean beyond a game or two)? He has some of the best ball skills in the league. There’s no doubting that once you see it. By ball skills, I mean the ability to catch the ball when it’s thrown in your vicinity. Combo of hands, athletic ability to maneuver your body, and awareness to be in the right place at the right time. Wallace is average in all three areas, while Brown is excellent in two (hands, athleticism) and average but improving in the other.
Heh, I easily watched TOO MUCH of A Brown this past season (WR3 in my main league) given my blanket dislike for everything PIT. (and NE and SF)

Agreed that his future looks bright, and he really seems to typify that “NFL truism” about how it’s NOT how fast you can run, but how fast you can stop (and then restart etc) that separates the elite playmakers at the NFL level.

Read in today’s paper that Plax is pushing hard to play in Philly. Thinks he & Mike have chemistry. Would definitely be a nice target inside the twenty.
No Plax can go to Seattle with RG3
From what Schefter’s saying, SEA’s #12 is looking a little further than STL is willing to drop down.

Though there is already talk about DE-Mario Williams potentially landing in their 4-3…

Like the cliche says, it’s not the Hall of Very Good. That’s why he’s borderline. He’ll be voted on but I doubt he’ll ever make the final cut. Fact is, as good as he was, he was never a top 5 or really even a top 10 receiver in the league.

Hines is the type of guy that gets put up somewhere in a team’s stadium(they all call it different things). Teams have the liberty of choosing who is most memorable from their teams, not just who was ‘Hall of Fame’ good.

hahaha, HOVG. I did laugh out loud.

NFL network has a old Denver vs Joe Montana lead Chiefs game on right now. The players look fucking huge! Is it just me or do players wear way smaller shoulder pads now. The safties especially.

Yeah everyone wears tiny shoulder pads and no leg pads at all now. The shoulder pads don’t even cover the delts on some guys.

What say you all?

Def rooting for him to regain all of the game we remember from him…

Hard to blame IND for going a different direction…
